When you return to Virginia, the 66 Outside the Beltway Express Lanes is open. Only the section between US-29/Gainesville and Virginia Route 28 is open. Tolling is required for non-HOV users. In the meantime, HOV-2 is required for the free use of the 66 Express Lanes until the rest of the 66 Outside the Beltway Express Lanes open in December. When that time happens, the free trip will be for HOV-3 users.
I think that taking the 66 Outside the Beltway Express Lanes is totally worth it going to the Washington Dulles Airport especially if you are part of an HOV-3+ vehicle that allows the use of the express lanes free.
