Why I do Draft Grades Videos:
This is a fun exercise to visit how I believe these players will produce for these teams, what these coaches and players can work on to make these Grades look wrong in a few years, vice versa, as well as what these Drafts might tell us about a certain team’s plans or opinions on existing players on their roster or the types of schemes they are looking to run.
    DRAFT GRADING CRITERIA
    DAYS 1 & 2
    “S” -Certified Steal
    • Need, team/scheme fit check out and the value is better than expected
    “A”
    • Value, need, and team/scheme fit all check out
    “B”
    • Good pick, but one of the following apply
o Player was a slight reach
o Positional value in question (1st Round Only)
o Team passed on a better player at the position for the team
o Team ignored value at a major need (1st Round Only)
o Team/Scheme fit is in question
o An otherwise “C” graded pick due to value and/or better players being available, but a massive hole at a value position (QB, OT, WR, ED, DT, CB) was addressed in Round 1 with a still good player that wouldn’t have been available for the team later
    “C”
    • Fine pick but two of the following apply
o Player was a slight reach
o Positional value in question (1st Round Only)
o Team passed on a better player at the position for the team
o Team ignored value at a major need with (1st Round Only)
o Team/Scheme fit is in question
    “D”
    • Pick is in question as three of the following apply
o Player was a Slight reach
o Positional value in question (1st Round Only)
o Team passed on a better player at the position for the team
o Team ignored value at a major need with (1st Round Only)
o Team/Scheme fit is in question
OR Player was a major reach
    “F”
    • A truly inexplicable pick as player was a major reach, AND team passed on a better player at the position for the team, team/scheme fit is in question, or team ignored value at a major need or positional value is in question (1st Round Only)
"-" May be applied if pick required a high trade-up price
    DAY 3
    Certified Steal (Purple)
    • Team stole a player who had a Day 1 or 2 grade who has a legit shot to be an impact player
    Great Pick (Green)
    • Team found above average value and a player with a legit chance to start within the first couple of seasons with the team OR a great role player in a key spot right away (Goal line back, #3 D-Lineman, TE2, dime back, kick returner, etc.)
    Good Pick (Blue)
    • Value lines up and player is in a great scheme or opportunity to find success as a starter or key role player relative to most Day 3 picks
    Solid Pick (White)
    • No notable criticisms of the pick but expectations should be tampered as with any Day 3 Pick
Reach / Will Regret Not Taking… / Not a fan (Orange)
    • (Round 4 & 5 only) Player was a notable reach and/or notably better players would have been better picks, but the player still had a draftable grade
    • (Round 6 & 7) Player was evaluated and did not have a draftable grade Massive
    Reach (Red)
    • (Round 4 & 5 only) Team took a player who did not have a draftable grade OR reached multiple rounds while passing on several better options for the position

If Rattler went to Bama or Georgia when he transferred. I think he goes alot earlier. But the best late QB was Pratt. 😢 Now my mortal enemy 😅😅😅 Pratt on Bama or Georgia. 😳😳 We might be talking a Jayden Daniels type pick 🤷🏻💯 Draft is so much hype. Then, investment matters so, you'll try and develop a Zach Wilson, hang onto him longer than say a later pick. Then you look at coaching, does the Coach believe in this player. How many new OC/DCs, QB coaches etc. New HC? All that you built with the old coach is gone. That stuff prevents later picks from being as good. Pratt tho, a lot like Jordan Love, Kellen Mond. Very smooth player.

Can't believe how good of an off-season the Panthers have had. After last year's disaster I had absolutely no faith in the team being good anytime soon, and felt whatever potential Bryce Young had would be ruined by an awful front office. But now I dare to have hope again. Dan Morgan has seemingly made all the right moves (on paper), and Dave Canales has an electric personality and energy and makes me feel like he has the "it" factor, like Dan Campbell or Sean McVay. I truly feel like he was the best possible hire for this team right now, and it also seems like David Tepper has actually stepped back and is just letting the football guys cook.
Overall I think we're on the right path to be truly competitive in the next couple of years, and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they end up with 9 wins competing for the division this year.

Falcons Draft: At first I also felt bad for Kirk from a person perspective. He wants to retire a falcons and loves the area. But he’s making $100 Million guaranteed for 2 years. That should smooth things over. 100% agree with your assessment on the 2nd round pick. That one bothers me more than the Penix situation. Giving up a 3rd to reach for a DT (according to 99% of analysts) over guys like Newton, Dejean, and Kool-aid. When ATL desperately needs a CB2! I think they rebounded well with their 3rd and 4th rounders to somewhat save their draft. Raheem and Fontenot seems to have tremendous confidence that coaching and get the best out of this roster. But I remember the condescending confidence of the previous guy so I’m hesitant to believe. Hard to grade this draft but I’ll give it a C- Draft. Excited for the season!

Finally i see some love for the Panthers draft, i really thought we killed it and people are saying we reached on Legette and Brooks and they are dead wrong imo. Bell cow do it all back we got in the second and the perfect receiver for our scheme whos biggest ? Is a late breakout? With the shit hes been through in life? Big +++ for Panthers.
Really i have bigger ? For Wallace and Barrett. Wallace has athletic positives, but instinctual ? But also has some random stats where youre like "wait thats pretty good" (i think PFF said hes let up super low number of TDs on coverage plays, sure letting up yards and catches still not good but bend and dont break works). Barrett makes me want to think he should play safety? Seemed fast, but just too small idk.
The two biggest knocks i have for our draft is no o line depth for us (we legit have a guard and a guard tackle taking reps at center like wut), and two off ball linebackers plus running back, so positional value is lacking.

Michael Penix pick makes some sense to me. They felt like they needed to draft a replacement for Kirk either this year or next year and they might not have their first rounder next year. Also they were worried if they trade down that the 3 qb needy teams behind them could’ve taken the 3 remaining first round qbs. According to falcons, they won’t have another chance to draft a replacement than this year and they had a better grade on Penix than JJ and Bo so that’s their opinion.

Unless Cousins gets injured or simply under-performs. Then it's genius. Look, in reality, Cousins is the bad deal. If Lamar is a bust based only on his playoff performances, what does it say about a guy who has been in the league longer, is worse in the playoffs _AND_ the regular season? Even without the age & injury concerns, he is WAY too great a reach.
It's not like Daniel Jones where he's still young enough he might change. The Vikings offense was *designed around his strengths **_and had Justin Jefferson!_* I think we've seen his ceiling & now he's recovering from a torn achilles at this age.
They didn't know Penix would be there or that they wouldn't need to trade up. So Penix isn't the head-scratcher. As for Cousins, well, he's guaranteed 100 million $ if he Never Plays.
      I think he'll be okay.

I like Moton and Hunt on the right side, and the hope is Ekwonu takes the next step at LT. But I still have serious questions about LG, C, and their depth. There were a bunch of REALLY good interior linemen available on day 3 and boy would I have loved it if they had brought in a Mahogany, Limmer, McCormick, Nourzad, or Bortolini. Damien Lewis and Corbett scare me in that interior lol.

Im with Marcus in that the trade AND selection of Orhorhoro is far more egregious than the Penix selection. When i saw they had traded up, I was hoping it was for Newton... and then the announcement came in. Should've kept #79 and taken a better WR prospect or a boundary CB. I really want to know who their area scout for the SE is and exactly how much power they have given the John Fitzpatrick/Zion Logue picks in recent years and even the Woerner signing.

Most people only look at this with the benefit of hindsight. When we signed Kirk bothJJ and Bo were deemed day 2 guys and there were a ton of teams in need of qb so it was a good decision to sign Kirk and then probably a good decision to sign a future qb seeing that we probably wouldn’t be in striking distance of a similar caliber qb prospect in the future.

Falcons fan, but I truly do not think i'm on copium. This draft was terrible asset management, but I really like the players, the day 2/3 d-lineman (mainly trice and dorlus) are the guys I wanted, the trade was just questionable. I truly think our defense is better and all 4 mid round guys are going to be 300+ snap guys in year one, the one unthinkable thing is that we didn't come out with any of the CBs that dropped to the mid 2nd. There is really no reason that we should have let Kool-aid go to Nawlens or Dejean go to Philly or that we didn't pick up someone like Myles Harden and sign Zion as a UDFA.

  • @beanie3427
    @beanie3427 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

The reason I give the Penix pick an F has nothing to do with him as a QB, and everything to do with how the pick was completely inexplicable from a business and team-building perspective. One way or another, you're either gonna have Penix sitting for 3/5 years of his rookie deal or you're gonna cut Kirk Cousins after a year or two and take on massive amounts of dead cap. The fact that Penix will be 28 years old when the totality of Cousins' contract has concluded is just a shit covered cherry on top. Also, it ignores MAJOR needs at their iDL and CB, the latter of which they didn't even bother with. And finally it likely pissed Kirk off and is going to create a really weird team dynamic.
None of that even mentions the fact that I had Penix way down the board as my QB6 and I didn't think he was worth a pick inside the top 20.

As a Falcons fan my take is that the Penix pick is not as far fetched as people are making it out to be. The worse move was definitely the 2nd round trade up. Cousins will get over it, he got his guaranteed money and bedsides it seemed clear to me that the Penix pick wasn't planned, it was made on the fly so he learned of it as soon as they did it. If it works out they are set at Qb for years so it's worth the risk. That being said they didn't kill this draft overall and thats disappointing. And to trade up and reach for a guy? very bad.

If im the panthers, im gonna get trevin wallace to work on his pass rushing moves and see how he does as an edge. I think his skill set and athleticism fits better in that role. Less costly in the pass game. Hes young and can put some size on, 6’1 238ish pounds is a bit light but you can put some weight in him. And you honestly have to teach him the same amount of linebacker stuff as you do edge stuff lol. It also gives the 3rd round pick more value since its on edge. Just go let him be an athlete and raise hell on the edges on 3rd downs for a bit. See how it goes. 🤷‍♂️
