I'm not gonna let the PC Bros make me feel shame for upgrading to the geforce RTX 4060 over my old radeon rx 570. It was the highest performance GPU at the cheapest price that was compatible with my Aorus B450 M motherboard. If i went any higher, I would have had to buy brand new everything, so I'm comfortable with my recent purchase. And now i can finally experience ray tracing that I've been hearing about for the longest time!

Seriously. From watching these videos I'm amazed at how narrow sighted some of these high-end gamers are. Some of them forget that many gamers upgrading from lower tier cards would benefit quite significantly from buying this card. Upgraded from 1660 Super and this was a godsend.

The 4060 is an excellent choice. It low 115 wattage is great. 1080p machine. On the other hand the 400$ 4060 ti is just awful, all it offers is more speed at the cost of 165 wattage. The 16gb is more worth it at 400$ , but sadly it sits closer to 500$ for the 3fan option. You made great choice.

Very good video, actually analyzes what the card is made for instead of just complaining. Most people say to just stick with a 30 series, but some of us are still rocking older cards (I'm still using a 1070 for god's sake), and most anything would be a good upgrade. Not to mention, were I to upgrade to a newer 30 series card I'd likely need a higher wattage PSU, but the 4060 has such an incredibly low power usage that I would be totally fine with what I have right now, which is an almost $100 that I'd be saving. Lots of people don't factor that in when they consider the price of new parts, the rest of the PC usually has to get upgraded to compensate, but not with this card.

I am in the same position here, gtx 1070 user. I was unsure what to buy in this price range. I could buy a 3060 ti or a 6700xt but I have a 500W PSU. I’ve been comparing GPU’s for 2 days, even the rtx 3060 entered in the equation, because it has 12GB of memory. Today, I’ve ordered a MSI RTX 4060 Gaming X and I will see what it will offer. Everyone is complaining of RAM, bandwidth but few people have tried the RTX 4060. No major reviews are yet made on the purchasing platforms in my country, so I’ve decided to break the ice. @_Tawara_ ปีที่แล้ว +13

I don't agree with people who say what you shouldn't buy such and such card, because it all depends on the consumer's needs. And I'll tell you exactly when you should buy an RTX 4060. Here's a concrete example:
    - I have a friend who wants to upgrade his Geforce 770 graphics card just to play Cyberpunk 2077 in 1080p with the RT ultra and get at least 50-60 fps (and sometimes online games like Chivalry 2 and Smite) and his budget is 280-320€. Here's the question: which graphics card is best suited to this need? Once you've checked all the benchmarks on the Internet, you'll understand that AMD are forgotten, because if you set the RTs to ultra, you get a maximum of 23-30 fps with FSR, and the ONLY solution that meets the need and matches the price is the RTX 4060.

This card made sense to me for a couple reasons. I'm on an older system. My monitor is 144hz 1080p. My CPU is a Intel 9800k and my power supply is a gold 500 watts. At first I was going to go with the RTX 4070 but then why? I can't game at 1440p unless I buy a new monitor not to mention the 500w power supply would need to be replaced by a 650watt. This of course would make installation more difficult because now I got to worry about cable management on the new PSU. And also my current 1660ti really has never let me down...even with Baldur's Gate 3. But it's limping in Starfield....so the 4060 makes since as a hold over to wait for the time for a new system with a new monitor and/or a new series to release like a rtx 5060. Either way a $2k plus investment so a 4060 is my cheapest option at the moment and will be at least a decent upgrade from a 1660ti.

A potential use for the 4060 is if you are trying to squeak by and upgrade an older PC with a weak PSU. I'm upgrading my 2 kids computers that are Dells with 1060 3GB video cards and 460W PSUs. We upgraded one of them to a 3060 Ti, but the 460W PSU couldn't handle it, and we had to upgrade the PSU as well (and of course, being Dell, we had to modify the case to put the new PSU in it). For the other Dell, I want to try to stay with a low power card that won't require a PSU upgrade, and the 4060 should fit the bill.

Additionally, I seek power efficiency because we have two gaming PCs at home and I'm the one who pays the electricity bill. I chose this GPU because I like it, and I also like the MSI brand. I bought it new, and as the Dominican gamer saying goes: He who dies for his GPU, death tastes like glory.

Protip: for people who dont know tech. Every generation until now the new x60 class card was equal to the last generation's x80 class card. Every.Single.Time. So if you want to know what the real x60 class is look at whichever card this generation matches the last gen RTX 3080. When you do that it becomes painfully obvious that the RTX 4070 is actually an RTX 4060 and that the RTX 4060 is actually an RTX 4050 or even an RTX 4040/4030. That is how much of a criminal fraud Nvidia has perpetrated on you as a consumer. They are calling a x60 class card a x70 class and charging 600$ for it instead of 300-350$ it should be selling at. You are being scammed.

You are delusional. The RTX 3060 is nowhere near the RTX 2080. Likewise, the 1660 is nowhere near the 1080. A 60 series competes with the previous 70 series card, not the 80. The RTX 4060 is supposed to compete with the RTX 3070, which it doesn't without frame generation. The 4060 falls somewhere in the middle between the 3060 and the 3070, but with frame generation it surpasses the RTX 3070. This seems to be NVidia's strategy. Instead of the usual "roughly the same as the previous 70 series", you get a 60 series GPU that's weaker than the previous 70 without frame generation, but that in effect greatly surpasses it with frame generation. It's a trade-off, a bet. NVidia is betting that games will adopt frame generation, at which point the 4060 is actually superior to the 3070.

  • @ItzContrast
    @ItzContrast ปีที่แล้ว +27

I think that this generation just isn't what we're looking for. Although it gets me a little scared of what's ahead. Really hoping that we get another generation like the 30 series or at least the 3070 and above because of how beneficial and affordable those were despite the scalper pricing. PC gaming is starting to become not as affordable for our current generation which makes sense but right now it's a little absurd.

You’re correct. Well said. Nvidia said the 50 series will release in 2025. So I’m hoping by then we can be done with the left over inventory from the 30 series. Then the 40 series can fall in price. Hopefully, this will clear the way for cheaper 50 series cards.

I'm someone that rarely upgrades his PC, plus my machine runs long hours and electricity is at a premium here.
Hence the RTX 4060 is a solid upgrade from my old second hand GTX 1070.
Heck to a certain extend a 4060 is already overkill, because i spend most of my gaming hours on games that won't benefit from it anyways.
    PS:
And yes, i prefer NVidia cards over AMD. Not because they are better or something, but i'm simply used to them. If i was in the market for a higher end card i would most likely pick AMD. It was actually rather close this time, but the 115W TDP the 4060 draws was the number that convinced me to stay with NVidia... for now. The longterm power savings made the difference for me. Shis power efficiency comes at the price of getting slightly less FPS for my money, something i'm willing to accept.

    Good video man.
More or less I agree with you, you make perfect sense.
For me, if I had money, the RTX 4060 would be THE card to buy under two different circumstances.
    a) With its current specifications, including VRAM, it was under 240 euros. As it is now, the cheapest I can find it at here (Greece) is 330 euros. Most places have it for 30+ higher than that.
    b) For its current price, IF it had at least 12GB of VRAM. As it is now it doesn't make much sense.
The problem with the card (other than the price) is as you mentioned more than once, the VRAM. If the best thing about this card is frame generation and that requires even more VRAM and you can barely use it for 1080p games, what's the freaking point?
The low power draw is fantastic and I would love to replace my GTX 1660 Super with it, but even if I had the money I don't think I would willingly pay so much money for this card.
Perhaps if they release a 4060 Super with more Vram....I don't know.

@@ErockOnTech I’ve seen various TH-cams now where the 4060Ti 8Gb is compared performance wise to the 16Gb version. 16Gb does NOT make it faster at 1080p, 8Gb is enough to run actual games with maxed out graphics at 1080p, but in order to play smoothly at 1440p, yeah there the 8Gb won’t be enough! Also you’ll miss out on future games that really need 16Gb, but I just bought a Ryzen 5 5600G low budget gaming preassembled rig with 32Gb RAM for less than 500 euro, and bought a GeForce 4060Ti 8Gb separately 😝. For having had no decent rig at all for a very long time, this “upgrade” is worth it… I even had a Creative Labs Audigy Fx added to the Ryzen for a bit better sound. The Ryzen 5 5600G by itself can handle all modern games with its integrated onboard gpu at lower graphical settings, but using my 4060Ti, I’ll be able to play actual games with maxed out visual quality at 1080p, which suits me fine as long as I get all the graphical bells and whistles and special effects, ‘cause I don’t care for 4k and higher, since my real life vision ain’t that sharp anymore anyway lol.

    • @jmgalaxytab2325
      @jmgalaxytab2325 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Add to that the fact that I will spend much time in my newly acquired 2nd hand Quest 2 VR headset, which has limited resolution anyway, so for PCVR gaming, streaming from the Ryzen to the Quest 2, leaves me enough frame rate to enjoy all of these games in VR. The conversion to VR has a 50% performance hit, that is to say if the game has 120 fps on a flat screen, it will only give 60 fps in VR… luckily enough, the 4960Ti delivers quite well on frame rate, again: at 1080p there’s no need for more than 8Gb. Those games being reviewed that actually “hogged” all of the vram were using it as cache, so although the benchmarkers thought the card was being pushed to its limits, it was not, it was actually putting the available vram to very good use to keep gameplay really smooth. So I’m extremely happy with the 4960Ti 8Gb… I’ll solder some extra 8Gb onto it when the need arises, lol, probably in about 5 years or so. I guess you could describe this 8Gb card in only one sentence: “8Gb is not suited for 1440p gaming, but at 1080p it rocks!!!” so peeps who want to game at the higher resolutions, stay away from the 8Gb version and go for 12Gb or more… For peeps like me that don’t care about maxing out resolution but still want max effects and visuals… and a taste of Ray & Path Tracing, this is a no brainer! So this baffles me that the 4060; a huge generation leap, is still not capable of solid 4K performance.

People say it can't do 4k, at ultra, with no DLSS or frame generation, which make no sense as the card has dedicated hardware to do those things. I don't get it. If you want 4k (which is not yet standard really), at Ultra preset, I believe you should be thinking on buying the most expensive cards, not the lowest spec card from the generation.... If you're buying a 4060 the least I would expect is plan to play 1080/1440, smart settings instead of full standard ultra presets, and hell why are you buying nVidia in 2023 if you don't want to use DLSS???

@@alto-lawith 128 bit bus memory and 8gb of vram it definitely can't do 4k very well also the fact you use DLSS 3 as a arguement shows how bad the state of optimisation is right now and the fact that Nvidia has officially locked DLSS behind a pay wall. You shouldn't be paying for software only the hardware.

    • @alto-la
      @alto-la 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@AssassinIsAfk I said if you want to do 4k you should (need to?) buy a more expensive card. The 4060 CAN do 4k, it'll run basically everything that is out there today at 4k IF you're willing to use software solutions available to do so, being aware that you have less graphics quality.
If you're targeting 4k, you should not be getting the cheapest card (of current generation). That's not an issue with the card. How much does a good 4k monitor costs where you live? I bet a lot more than the cheap 1080p.
Now saying that software should be free is just silly. I never learnt how to do photosynthesis while learning to code.

    • @AssassinIsAfk

@@alto-la well it depends, andriod is basically free anyone can use it, Linux is free and anyone is free to use it, java is free and anyone is free to use it, c++ is free and anyone is free to use it, so software can be free but the point that I am trying to say is without DLSS 3 the 4060 would be and is absolutely trash and to prove this point the 4060 desktop and 4060 laptop are basically the same thing because DLSS 3 makes them more powerful. The hardware in the 4060 is dogshit and a step down from the 3060 and honestly I think that you would agree, there would be no point in buying it however because DLSS 3 exists it makes a trash card good which is sad and makes Nvidia look insanely greedy, they can cheap out on the hardware and "fix" the issues with software, driving their profits up and charging more for the "new" graphics cards. It's basically a scam and people like you accept it cause you can't buy a 4070 or above all because Nvidia cut those cards back as well and increase the price to $600+.

It is definitely not cheap, but it's a lot less expensive than Nvidia's commercial grade low profile cards, and it's considerably more powerful than any of the lower end low profile 4gb GPUs that have been available until now.

    FPS -
For 1080p and content with 75hz (Maxed in-game settings) monitor this is already overkill, despite the card I've bought can be OC, but I didn't, as I'm not using 1440p
    Price -

    PSU power consumption -
This card knows how to save power, and can run smoothly on R5 3600x & PSU of 600w 80+ bronze, without power failure, caused by insufficient wattage. The power efficiency without is unquestionable, and as expected from a 128-bit.

I watched this video AFTER buying a 4060 on pre sale*, the only regret i have is it will take almost 3 months to start sending the GPU (in Brazil*), so i'll keep the GTX 1060 with me for a while, i bought from the same brand i had on the GTX, Galax, but suddenly i saw a decrease in price on the INNO3D brand, and (maybe?) regret a little. But i chose the RTX 4060 as i never used RT before and wanna check that, also check how DLSS looks closely and use AV1 and Accelerated Media encoding for video Editing, this was the major reason.

I understand completely. Like I said in the video, if you’re coming from a 1060, the 4060 will be a good upgrade for you. You’re fine.

I'm in a bit of a tough spot. I have a 2070 super and I want to upgrade. I prefer to go NVIDIA because I do like using DLSS and I have a GSYNC monitor. I'd like to go for something that is 4070 or higher but NVIDIA price to performance is just garbage compared to what it used to be. A 4060 wouldn't really even be an upgrade other than i being newer with frame gen and better power consumption.

is this card really not worth it? i am currently saving for it along with whole pc since my pc is horrible integrated amd a12-9800 dogcrap, i cant find an alternative graphics card in the same price range though in my country.. RX 7600 is an alternative but it has less features and only slightly stronger so I would go for the RTX 4060 instead, i have no alternative other than paying more but im just 14 lol no job

4060 is without a doubt a good card however it is not a good upgrade from 3060. if you are upgrading from 1000series or lower 4060>3060 in 99% cases. If you value features like FG, DLSS 3 or low power consumption 4060 is an amazing option in nvidia. 4060 mostly gets hate coz its not worth to upgrade from like a 3060, not because its bad.

I'm building a new PC soon. Coming from a GTX 1060, I'm torn between the 4060 or an older 3060 with 12 GB VRAM. The most demanding game I play is probably Baldur's Gate 3 at 4k resolution but if I'm content with how it performs on my 1060 then I'll probably be fine with the 4060, right? Surely it wouldn't perform worse?
While I'm torn between exactly which model to buy, I think an Nvidia card is the right choice for me since I do a lot of non-gaming tasks (raw photo processing, video editing and encoding, etc). If I'm wrong, someone let me know. My budget is around $300 for the card and it looks like I can get a 4060 for that price or a few dollars more.

Possibly next month I will buy the 4060 (2060 Super owner) Personally I don't need more than 1080p for now, and I really don't want to touch AMD gpu's because the last time I had one, its drivers didn't stop giving me problems and headaches , It was the main reason I switched to Nvidia

for my case, I want to play at 1080p( high refresh(144hz) monitor) competitif games(like lol, valorant, apex) but I want also high fps(at least 60 or very close to it) on triple AAA games 1080p, so will 8gb vram be enough on a time frame of 5years, or is it a must to buy a 12gb ram for my case again I wont be thinking of buying a gpu in at least the next 5years . would love the community thought on this.

I have seen all their videos, great video btw.
That being said, there is nothing wrong with the 4060, the Ti? yes, it should have 16gb vram for $400, this card would be a good card for ~ $275. It is a little over priced but can be used at 1440p if you do not use presets, med to high with some textures and shadows lowered a bit makes this card perform well unless you are expecting 144hz at 1440p.
And gpu prices....well this is where we are and its not going to change. Nvidia has more money now and they will wait, and people will give in and buy. This is a good upgrade, as you said for someone rockin a 1060 or 2060.
    Personally, I went with a 6700XT I got on sale for $299
