I also have a childhood cookbook story. I loved baking cookbooks, and my friend's grandmother gave me one at their house when I was a kid. I loved it. It had Home Ec recipes. Years later, I still had the same one, but it wasn't in very good shape just because it was very old. I found the same one at a garage sale in better shape, so I was able to mail the old one to my friend because it was her grandmother's. Now we both have one, and she has the actual one from her grandma.
I have my grandmother cookbook and she made many notes in there, so great to have. I also have my cookie cookbook that I received at my bridal shower 53 years ago!

On the lily dress you could buy some plain color that matches fabric and have a seamstress install some cute patch pockets. You may even be able to have them open a side seat and install pockets. You need to find a good and creative seamstress in your area to help with the bust alterations when needed and the various odds and ends events the kids will have coming up.
