Having seen him play in the interim, the first thing I noticed when footage from the current tour started to emerge was how well he’s looking compared to a few years back. It’s wonderful to see him looking & sounding happy & healthy.
Wow! My question from the meet and greet in Pittsburgh/Greensburg! I was so nervous! A beautiful man looking at me with those intense eyes! Amazing recovery from a horrific accident & Blackie Lawless has went on to give us the BEST show of the year!
😮 That leg break sounded soooo painful. Blackie is looking great, good on him for getting himself back into shape. Losing weight is much harder than gaining weight for sure! 🤘😊
Ouch!!!!! I had my growth plate removed from my leg and right huge titanium staples, I mean huge right into the bone and a full cast up to my hip for almost a year. I feel your pain Blackie!

No kidding. This story makes the one about my younger brother breaking his leg during a game of indoor soccer (this was a league game) as a kid look like skinning your knee by comparison. Long story short, he got kicked in the side of the leg where there’s no shin guard protection, as the padding didn’t reach that far back, while battling for the ball. He never played soccer competitively again.

And I thought what happened to Mick Doohan during the 1992 MotoGP Dutch TT at Assen was bad. Yikes! What Blackie described here sounds at least as bad. For those who don’t know who I’m talking about, Mick Doohan is a 5-time MotoGP champion, hailing from Australia 🇦🇺. At the 1992 Dutch TT at Assen, Mick had a high-side accident in which his Honda landed on top of him. Both bike and rider went sliding down the track at a high rate of speed, generating a lot of heat. Mick tried to spin himself out from under the motorcycle, and everything spun except for one of his legs, snapping both the tibia and fibula in that leg (don’t ask me which leg, I don’t remember). Mick underwent an operation that was supposed to get him back on the track in half the normal recovery time (he was in contention for the championship), but something went wrong and his broken leg developed gangrene, making it smell like rotten meat in a butcher shop. The way that was fixed was by sewing his legs together so that the tissue from one leg could feed off the tissue from the other leg. Long story short, Mick did return before the season ended, but he missed out on the championship in the 500cc (now MotoGP) class. He would finally become World Champion in 1994, which he won again in the next four seasons, but like so many others, Mick was forced to retire after another devastating crash. Hearing Blackie’s story about his broken leg reminded me of Mick’s story, especially the aftermath.
