When I was 16 years old. I absolutely loved going camping in the pouring down rain. All my friends. And I mean all of them and my parents. Thought I was completely nuts. But it was the only way to be away from the crowds camping in California. And I think it’s funny that now it’s a thing that people have realized is a lot of fun. Because of you and the others. I have purchased my first tent. Since I was a teenager. And at the age of 73. I’m going car clamping. So I think all of you for that, you gave me the inspiration.
Kurt that is great news. I really and truly hope that you have a wonderful time. If you used to enjoy camping in the rain then you sounds like you will embrace whatever comes your way. It really is liberating when you can get excited by the prospect of your trip having rain rather than it being 'ruined' by the rain. Have fun.
Walking out on the tarn in the dark. Now that’s really taking adventure to a new level. We might not have large predators but we have plants that make access to deeper water possible. 😊I marvel at the balance you have to do that in the dark and confidence you show in doing so many things on these adventures you take us on. Love it.
Enjoyed your wild rain adventure here in North Canterbury from the comfort of home. Also enjoy the sound of rain, the grey warblers, paradise ducks, and misty views! Vicarious pleasure for an eighty-year old former camper/tramper who sometimes boils a billy on a tiny gas stove in the garden to enjoy a cuppa in the outdoors!
SO pleased to hear it NZview. I hope to bring you many many more outings that can rekindled those fantastic memories of days in the hills. Thanks for the lovely comment. Cathy
Plenty of joy and inspiration in this trip Cathy. Just love your enthusiasm. And to that non-20%ers that aren't sticking around - 'it is definitely worth staying to the end'. And you have hit over 9000 subscribers! Come on 10K.
I love playing geoguesser with your videos. I'm always attempting to pinpoint your precise camping location. Thanks to you, I frequently find myself visiting the same camping spots after you, and I often spend the night. I only wish you made it a little more challenging for me to guess your location. But anyway, thanks for the great video as always.
That is so funny. I love to do that with other NZ outdoor channels too. I also like the ones that require hours of comparing where that river joins with what direction the sun rise from, etc. I guess if someone cares enough to work it out they will. I will be thinking of that on my next trip 😉 challenge accepted 😂
Great video ive been watching your videos for sometime now ,you make me feel so relaxed watching them you are very lucky with some of the beautiful views stay safe on your trips
. Always look forward to your videos Cathy. I am only across on the Sunshine Coast Qld but have been to NZ. Hope to get across again one day. Such great scenery and you do a great job at setting up everything. Love it. 🏕🏕
Thanks Wendy!! As long as there are people to watch I’ll keep on keeping on. It’s a huge amount of effort but if they are well received it’s a great encouragement 😊
Loved the video once again and the awesome views. Can't wait for your next adventure and I hope it is to a place where Indie is welcomed. You are getting close to the 10,000 mark for subscribers. Keep up the great work.
ah ha, yes I wondered about that. I think Cass Lagoon might be in CFP, and you can take dogs into that park, but not on the Cass Lagoon, so I wasn't surprised to find it was a no for this spot too. Flora and fauna wise it is much more APNP.
@@adventureot just checked WAMS, the boundary of CFP juts out along Bealey Spur where the track crosses the 735m contour line up as far as 900m. Not much good for dogs since the lower track is within APNP. A likely throwback to colonial days when boundaries didn't always follow logical landforms. The singing frogs are magical!
Amazing camp Cathy. Love the way you make fire in these grim conditions and massive respect that you follow LNT principles. Always a joy when you upload and thanks for taking us along.
That trip in the dark to the tarn was crazy -amazing that you can deal with the night and rain in the woods, but maybe you could have collected rain water to drink? Love it, that you leave no trace and take everything with you, so important in the mountains, thank you!😃💗💚
It’s amazing camping in the rain. Miss Indi. You always make the video so exciting to watch. Now your summer is coming are winter it’s on its way. Can wait to see the snow and cold weather. Love the small view of indi at the end. Tks. Love ya. Louise from Canada.
Beautiful views. Awesome to take advantage of relaxing in the tent. I would have taken a nap. Loved the ducks and how respectful you are with all the wildlife.
Fab as usual 😊, I recently did some camping in the Ruahine Ranges and took a little bottle of red wine up only to knock my cup over without even having a sip😢 As a Paramedic who has helped rescue quite a few people off mountains and from the bush I'm so pleased you have a PLB on you, very wise and can be literally life saving
Great weather for Ducks and for our Cathy which makes it awesome for us. I am definitely The 20% that makes time to take time to unwind with your adventures always fun and the location for someone who dosent live with mountains is always a treat with the snow on the top "Stunning". I totally Appreciate your hard efforts Cathy so congrats I applaud you Thankyou👏sending lots love and Blessings to you Indy and Family .Stay safe God Bless❤ 🙏
Absolutely. A beautiful little spot. Summer snow is always a bit of a crazy experience isn’t it. Pays to be prepared for anything in the NZ mountains. You just never know.
Awhh, I know. It is a hard call not taking her, but I would have to go back to the same places all the time, which could get very boring for all involved. I try hard to be able to take her. It is also so so much heavier for me to carry her stuff in to camp in winter. I think winter Indi trips might have to be car camping or 4wding next winter. It's so funny what you say about her protecting me. I always feel way safer without her because I can sneak under the radar. She just gives me away. If someone is nearby she barks and I can't just sit quietly in my tent going unnoticed.lol
You are right. That is why I like to share it with other people in my videos. I always hope that people will gain some enjoyment from taking a journey with me and enjoying what I get to enjoy.
Hello from Canada. Quick glance at your videos. Does it always rain in New Zealand (of course not - silly question - it's not the UK hehe) or do you just love camping in the rain. Big fan of camping as well. Can't do the hiking anymore though. 😢
Ha ha, spot on Dave, I just like to camp in the rain. The west coast of our south island gets a lot of rain, but where I am from it only rains about one day out of (perhaps) 7 or 8. I travel to get to the rain, or wait until it is forecast to rain. I love rainy camping for lots of reasons but the big ones are the sound of rain on the tent or tarp, the moody ambience from camp, and another very big one, lack of other people outdoors.
Good Evening Cathy .. 👍👍👍 .. nice, very nice 😊. I agree .. I also 'run hot' and believe in 'Be Bold, start Cold'. Out Nordic Walking during inclement weather, dressed as light as practicable and getting damp or wet (whether from inside or out) is generally not a problem .. as long as I am mobile. A set of water-protected dry upper torso gear sits in my pack for afterwards if need be. Thanks for the share 🤗 .. it's cooling down here in the Swiss North (with rain) .. Yay! Until next time then, good hunting for the summer tent .. take care .. Tommy
goggas and nu-nu's...Love it love it! Now that is a smart idea there. I agree, a warm dry set of clothes protected in your pack and you can always change and be warm when you get to camp. If I am too hot when walking I end up with wet clothes anyway, from sweating.
I was wondering if you were going to do another video in the rain. I saw the weather wasn't going to be so nice (rain wise) down there. I hope it's eased up some.
Thanks Mary. It rains a little bit, but I wait my trips out specially for when it does rain. Rainy camping is my all time favourite. I get rather down when I see 10 days of sunshine on the long range forecast (lol). I think I make it look like it always rains, but in truth it really and truly doesn't.
