Alex Terrible's energy is nuts - and to answer your question of if that's his voice or not; check out the live proshot version of "Bonebreaker" live in Moscow...the drops and crowd energy is insane.
For as dangerous as mosh pits look, they're one of the safest places to be at a metal concert. If you get knock down, you're getting picked up by 4-5 people. If you lose something like a shoe or hat, someone will hold it up in the air while moshing until you get it back. Mosh pits are nothing but big metal families coming together to enjoy the music and release energy.
to simplify the technique to scream/growl whatever, you dont sing with your vocal cords. you use the stuff around it and the mouthshape to produce the tone and just add the vocal cords to give words a shape. that way it doesnt hurt the vocal cords and you dont blow out your voice, but it can require a lot of air for some stuff.
Yep. Kinda like when you pinch a balloon and the air sputters out, or when you blow raspberries with your lips. Largely a similar concept, but you’re using your false folds (located above your regular vocal folds) and all the other fleshy bits in your throat/mouth to hold the air back, so that it sputters through them all/vibrates them and then resonates in your throat/mouth to shape the sound. It’s not super hard or harsh or intense, it just takes a lot of practice for a long time.
that's only for false cord screams though... most vocalists use a combination of falsecord/fry techniques, usually without actually realising they are utilizing both... some go pure fry, some pure falsecord, or some merge it. will ramos uses all parts. alex terrible primarily uses falsecords, with some occasional voice/fry added into his falsecords for some screams
Thanks for adding more detail, but it should be just a rough description. Im aware how both functions in detail, as there are a lot of informative people on this platform.
Awesome to find a newer reaction channel. You're on the right path, already found some masterpieces. STP is probably my fav band rn. HIGHLY recommend reacting to Alex Terrible's (the vocalist) cover of BFG Division
The point of the pit is simple, it's about family, because music like this does make a familial like bond between it's listeners. Slamming your body into your brothers and sisters at a show like this is the ultimate form of respect, admiration, and human connection (physically, emotionally, and spiritually in my opinion) especially in our community.
I use mosh pits as a sort of release. Let out my anger without the intent of hurting people. You hurt someone, you hug em and say my bad. Someone falls, you pick them up so they don't get trampled beyond recongnition. It's one body in that pit. We all move as one.
Every time I hear Slaughter to Prevail all I can think is... they must really love Slipknot because they sound so much like them just with the vocals turned to 11 (which is saying something) and way more Russian.
Keep up the great videos proud you keep stepping out of your comfort zone as someone who listens to a lot of other stuff metal has a special place in my heart
react to: *Reign of darkness-Thy Art is Murder *I will find you- Whitechapel *When a demon defiles a witch- Whitechapel *Far From Heaven-Fit For An Autospy *The Sea of Tragic Beasts- Fit For An Autospy
5:47 The point of mosh pits and the wall of death (the charging at each other) is that metal music can get you so hyped up and so raw that the inner beast (as we are animals, just very highly evolved ones) needs to be let loose. It's the same kind of thing as when you listen to a rap song, you bob/nod your head to the background beat, just dialed up to 12 out of 10. In the same way that a beautiful string quartet playing a lament can move you to tears and feel deep down, core emotions, so too can metal. All humans have anger, sadness, joy, and happiness in them, and the really REALLY good bands, like StP, Lorna Shore, Nightwish (Floor growls in a few songs, so it counts!), and the like can play those emotions to perfection. Fast, hard blast beats, shredding guitars, angry, deep vocals... it touches on the anger part of us, and it's a cathartic release to mosh, band your head, throw up the horns, do a wall of death or circle pit. So, to answer your question in a shorter way: The point is to let it all out on the floor and leave the concert sore, bruised, maybe bleeding from a busted lip or nose, and laughing your ass off at how good you feel having let all of that emotion out :) EDIT: You touched on the exact reason we mosh at 7:39... the music charges us up and touches on the emotions, and if you didn't release it, you'd explode :D
Found your channel yesterday and already loving these reacts some songs i'll 100% reccomend tho: New Order - The gloom in the corner anything from Landmvrks - highly reccomend Lost in a wave, Suffocate Gone with the wind - Architects, probably one of the best metalcore bands ever, the guitar work is perfect genuinely looking forward for your next posts now!
watch the video by the charismatic voice where they put a camera down Will Ramo's throat to understand truly how they do the growls. Also, the drummer for Slaughter to Prevail has a drum playthrough of this song and you get INSANE shots of his feet going 100 miles an hour. highly recommend if you loved the drums.
@@HawaiianMusicReacts I'd also recommend the drum playthrough of cuntcrusher by infant annihilator. Aaron kitcher is probably the fastest drummer in metal There are no lyrics btw, just insane drumming and chugging guitars
Gotta check the drummers playthrough of this song henis a beast... You also get a foot cam thru the video but it full screens when he hits that fast part
I can highly recommend Gaerea - Salve, Jinjer - Teacher Teacher and Archspire - Drone Corpse Aviator Love the reactions, keep up the great works. Much love from Denmark
The part where you reference "mosh pit" that one is a wall of death. The "point"of it is simply that we metal heads feel this music the same way your fav genre makes you want to jump or move around if you saw your fav artist live. That's just how we naturally reasons to the music. When Alex says demolisher you can see he doesn't use the mic which he also does live if the venue isn't huge.
It's one of those things that you just have to go and try for yourself if you want to understand why we do it. You just gotta be in a room when a breakdown hits and you charge at the other line like it's a battle for middle earth or something. There's something special about it
5:10 - You had asked about how metal vocalists can make these sorts of sounds without destroying their voice box: As you may already know, sound-any type of sound-is created when air molecules are vibrated. And with humans, most of the time when we’re make sounds, we use our voice box. But that’s not the only human organ that can make sounds. And when it comes to extreme metal vocals, such as growls and screams, much of those are typically produced by using muscles and tissues other than the voice box-so that’s how metal vocalists can make those sounds without destroying their voice. If it may be of interest, the Charismatic Voice recently put out a mini-documentary where she and Will Ramos visited a group of vocal scientists who put a scope down Will Ramos’s throat so that they could see exactly how he makes those sounds. And if you might be so inclined, I can highly recommend checking it out, whether on the channel or on your own (it’s about 50 minutes). th-cam.com/video/Ua8SuWNPrLE/w-d-xo.html And as for Lorna Shore in particular, if you might be open to checking out another track of theirs, I can highly vouch for “Cursed to Die” th-cam.com/video/pxUSYa3u7rs/w-d-xo.html and/or “Sun Eater” th-cam.com/video/mK8mw2X-4ug/w-d-xo.html. Of the two tracks, “Cursed to Die” has a more uplifting sound to it than “Sun Eater’ (or at least by Lorna Short standards), while “Sun Eater” is the more brutal of the two. (And I love them both-I only mention the styles of each just in case you might be more in the mood for one or the other.)
To answer your question about moshing simply. Its about energy release. Letting everything in you thats pent up out in an environment with others who are doing the same. For the most part you see good moshing etiquette. No nigh elbows, no kicking, and if someone falls you pick them up.
Mosh Pits: It’s an energy release, just like rap, hip hop, or even EDM & techno, you hear or feel a beat you like it makes you want to dance. Moshing is the same thing. It’s an energy release. It’s more aggressive, because obviously the music is more aggressive. Vocals, a great TH-cam channel to look at about vocals, I’ve seen everyone recommend the Charismatic Voice. She’s great. But another one is Kardavox Academy. He’s a vocal coach too, but where Charismatic voice comes from more of an opera/orchestral background, Kardavox academy is an actual vocal coach for metal music. He does reaction videos and does a break down on the vocal work in the videos. If you watch his videos for songs you’ve already done, don’t want you to spoil stuff for yourself, haha, it will probably get you a better grasp on the hows and whys of how the voice works in regards to this stuff. LASTLY, sorry for getting long winded, the vocalist for Slaughter to Prevail is Alex Terrible. He added his own vocals and lyrics to the song BFG Division from the Doom video game soundtrack, if you haven’t done it it. It’s incredible and adds a level of brutality that would have been wonderful to have in the game.
you should watch the drum play through of this song dude is nuts on the drums and as far as them being able to do the vocals with out destroying their voice box that would be years and years of practice
About the Pits, from my perspektive how had much experience (~12 years), I would say it hurts at the beginning but ends in a very strange extase where you just "dance" like in every normal and you will also experience that this heavy pits are mostly a very safe space, because everybody is taking care about each other, rarely I feld down to the ground but mostly somebody picks you up before it happens, its damage the body but cure the soul
the charismatic voice met will ramos and stuck a camera through his nose to the throat to watch how its done. you should check it out on a reaction video some more stp songs you might like are Baba Yaga, Bratva and 1984 my fav song from lorna shore rn is Pain Remains 1: Dancing Like Flames. its awesome. you should check it out if you want to get the heavy stuff and the emotional stuff at the same time
It's called false cord screams so basically their vocal cords don't collide but it's the vibrations which make the sounds. That's how they don't destroy their voice, it's also depends on the shape of their mouth and tongue which can make the different screams such as mids, lows and highs. If you watch Will Ramos's vocal one take covers he doesn't strain his neck as well.
I am just starting watching your journey into it and you sound very open compared to most people and i thank you and respect you for that. i would need to request Thomas Haake of the band meshuggah - drum playthrough live. if you enjoy drums, there are really good ones but id say he is above some drummers. here is the link to the song
You should check out the charismatic voice. She has videos were she explains how to do harsh vocals. She even got Will Ramos to agree to have a camera shoved down his throat.
Mosh pits are a lot less dangerous than they look. There were always unspoken rules, to pick up and protect anyone who fell, and at this point you'll mostly find people with years of experience in there.
hint: leave videos running to the end. If you don't want youtube automatically switching to some bullshit afterwards, just switch off the autoplay feature.
Would highly recommend Shadow Of Intent. The Heretic Prevails, Intensified Genocide or Of Fury are great tracks.Ben has one of the most controlled vocals with a huge range, alongside great musicianship. Brand of Sacrifice and To The Grave are also great bands along the same sort of lines. Paleface are a great band to get hyped up to. Hoping for a reaction some time soon. Take care man hope you're all good!
Also mosh pits let out pent up anger and love for the music or anything but it’s actually very respectful usually. From the outside in it looks crazy, but if someone in the pit falls, there are a handful of ppl picking them up. It’s just a hype time for everyone there. “The pit loves and respects the pit”
You should 100% react to their song Agony ( my favorite of theirs ) and Alex Terrible’s vocal cover for the song in the Doom video game ( BFG division )
Killer reaction, man. Absolutely stoked to see the journey play out 🤘 Just to throw another onto the pile... I think you'd really enjoy Alpha Wolf. They're an Aussie band and they have hella dope energy. I'd check out Akudama or Black Mamba. Also agree with another commenter, Gloom in the Corner is a real fun time (New World Order, or Misanthropic).
this song is pretty intense!!! I noticed you haven't done any OPETH yet!!!! you could literally do anything by them. 5:38 not sure if the same for everyone but partaking in a mosh pit is like skydiving, eating ridiculously spicy foods, etc. it's all about the rush imo
5:13 you should watch the video where Will Ramos, the vocalist of Lorna Shore gets a camera put down his throat to see how he makes the sounds he does... even the professional doctors were Very baffled and impressed because they'd never seen anything like it. they also said his vocal cords were just as healthy as any ordinary singer... also... yes I'd recommend a reaction to the live vocal playthrough from will ramos too, you get to hear his vocals even more clearer
The purpose of the pit to me is simply the venting of frustration with every day life. The violence of it is cathartic, but as some have said, it is with a familial aspect. It's all mutual in the pit and there is respect. One person falls, 5 pick them up. Crowd surfers come towards the pit, they are redirected or carried across it. It's a very pure form of consensual violence. I leave a show fucking gleaming and happy as a rainbow. Lol
If you haven't yet, I think you should really listen to some (early) Slipknot. They have so clearly influenced this band (and many more), and if crazy masks, crowd control and super talented music gets you excited, Slipknot it is. For example: London live videos from 2002! The songs "Disasterpiece" , "Heretic Anthem" and "People=Shit" are just amazing.
If u want to hear girl growl then Jinjer - pisces, more Slaughter to prevail then BFG - demon vocal cover by Alex Terrible , more deep growls by other artist then SHADOW OF INTENT - Malediction
you seem to like drums alot so im gonna suggest you look into archspires songs involuntary doppleganger and bleed the future. you can probably find playthroughs for them too. i think they do 350bpm on involuntary doppleganger and 400 on bleed the future (most songs in other genres are only 180 ish)
6:53 yes it is real. he made a proof on where he did those lows on his handy 7:05 on live concerts he really puts away his mic for that line and literally reaches the very back of the crowd if you like lows, than you definitely need to listen to slaughter to prevail's first album. pretty much only lows in those songs.😅 also take a listen to "Baba Yaga" also from STP
Time to react to Infant Annihilator :D I recommend start with Three Bastards. It has both Electric Callboy and Lorna Shore vibes, tho its quite unique at the same time
From a vocalist’s prospective of both clean and screaming it’s just as technical as Clean singing if not some argue more but it’s complicated topic because the common knowledge is screaming is just screaming that’s not the case take Corey Taylor from slipknot he would just scream and although it sounded insanely good from 1999 to 2002 it was horrible for his voice and vocal chords it destroyed his voice because of improper technique but it something that’s amazing to learn and do it’s fun af, also mosh pits are just a fun way to exert energy/ anger everyone’s different as to why they go in lol.
That's a quick road down, straight from Polyphia, to Lorna and then Slaughter, really enjoying the reactions, just discovered you. If you wanna dig a bit deeper, specially the lows and technical stuff, might aswell go a bit deeper with something like Archspire with "Golden Mouth of Ruin" or "Involuntary Doppelgaenger". Jumping to some highs would probably be fun aswell, might check out Cradle of Filth "Bathory Aria", specially the live Version from 2022, Cradle still my go to if someon wants to know what high screams can sound like. Keep up the work, cheers~
The mosh pit is kind a release, you just feel the music and let it go. There is no way to explain it, you need to do it for yourself then you maybe will understand. I have a friend that never went in to one, after he goes with me in one, he got addicted and always go in the concerts. kkk Greetings from Brazil, bro. 🤘🏽
You asked what the point of mosh-pits are.... Metal is about energy release, that's it. Mosh pits are friendly ( mostly ) controlled aggression. The idea is not to deliberately hurt anyone. If you fall there will be 4 or 5 pairs of hands helping you to your feet instantly. You're supposed to walk away from it tired and sore like you just played a really good game of football with your friends.
If you want a better understanding of how metal vocalists growl, look up "The Charismatic Voice". Elizabeth did an interview with Will Ramos from Lorna Shore where he put an endoscope down his throat while doing his growls so you can see exactly how it's done.
I think you should react to Charles berthound Barbie girl is the hardest song. It will give you a new respect for bass guitar on your “quest” to broadening your music maturity I guess is a good way to put it. And I’m subscribing now. Keep up the good work
Awesome reaction, STP is always super hype! I also prefer the growls and gutturals in deathcore, we share a preference🤘. Getting your voice to be able to do stuff like this is definitely possible, just takes alot of work and training.
A dangerous moshpit ? Check out Knocked Loose - Billy No Mates/Counting Worms. It's that kind of 'everyone was hurt in the making of this video' video. Plus hardcore has quite a lot in common with rap, lyrics are almost always very important, it's music that talks about real shit. But Yeah, Knocked Loose. Check it.
you should try we came as romans - darkbloom and maybe the "new imagined" basically remix featuring brand of sacrifice which is just a high energy banger and for Lorna Shore you should give sun//eater a try which is a lot heavier on the lower sounds. loving the reactions and actual feedback
goddamn youre jumping right in. i didnt enjoy this type of metal until the last few years and ive been into this shit since i was like 15

I've been a studio drummer for coming up on 40 years and if I did a set like this, I'd need a nap and an oxygen bottle.
Agony is a ride
Killer reaction, man. Absolutely stoked to see the journey play out 🤘
Just to throw another onto the pile... I think you'd really enjoy Alpha Wolf. They're an Aussie band and they have hella dope energy. I'd check out Akudama or Black Mamba.
Also agree with another commenter, Gloom in the Corner is a real fun time (New World Order, or Misanthropic).
1:43 Hawaiian: that sounds so beautiful 😍
Alex: 👹LOOK INTO MY EYES AND SEE IN THEM YOUR WORTH REFLECTION👹
You should check out the drumplaythrough of this song !
Great reaction!! Just a tip..if you could please turn your master volume up a bit. 🔥🔥🔥
this song is pretty intense!!! I noticed you haven't done any OPETH yet!!!!
you could literally do anything by them.
5:38 not sure if the same for everyone but partaking in a mosh pit is like skydiving, eating ridiculously spicy foods, etc. it's all about the rush imo
Four Horsemen of Deathcore Vocals: Dickie Allen, CJ McCreery, Will Ramos, and Alex Terrible
Im gonna watch this tonight on stream !
Lol
Great reaction! Check out Johnny Booth's "Crowd Control" and Shadow of Intent-"The Heretic Prevails," and their cover of Lamb of God's "Laid to Rest."
I'll be tuning into the twitch stream later on😄😄
see you at 8pm PST!
@@HawaiianMusicReacts see you then
Alex ( the signer) does a lot of covers of his songs on his channel
My dude said, "Oh. Fuck." I laughed out loud.
If u want to hear girl growl then Jinjer - pisces, more Slaughter to prevail then BFG - demon vocal cover by Alex Terrible , more deep growls by other artist then SHADOW OF INTENT - Malediction
you seem to like drums alot so im gonna suggest you look into archspires songs involuntary doppleganger and bleed the future. you can probably find playthroughs for them too. i think they do 350bpm on involuntary doppleganger and 400 on bleed the future (most songs in other genres are only 180 ish)
the point of mosh pits is fun, a good one isnt dangerous because everyone is there to have fun
try one at a show, you will totally understand
You need to check out some Gaerea. Very different style of metal but very emotive. The song Salve is a good example of their sound.
you never turn the volume down to this kind of music
Paleface - The Orphan. If you want a gym PR this song is it.
6:53 yes it is real. he made a proof on where he did those lows on his handy
7:05 on live concerts he really puts away his mic for that line and literally reaches the very back of the crowd
if you like lows, than you definitely need to listen to slaughter to prevail's first album. pretty much only lows in those songs.😅
also take a listen to "Baba Yaga" also from STP
check out evolving by darko us. Its got elements of hiphop and rap in it but it is also very very heavy deathcore
If you're a big fan of just having the lows check out either Hate Eternal - Upon Desolate Sands or Nile - Sacrifice Unto Sebek
Time to react to Infant Annihilator :D
I recommend start with Three Bastards.
Welcome to deathcore. Metal has so many sub genres from beatdown, metal core, deathcore just to name a couple that are the most popular
now youve seen lorna shore + stp its time for darko us evolving
Mosh pits are like a ‘friendly’ of the purge for metal heads…
Damn iPhone auto correct. What I meant to say is that marsh pits are like a friendly version of the purge for metal heads.
Great song. Great band.
Backbreaker by Fit For a King is right up your alley i think
Yeah i saw this on my twitch stream on Wednesday night... INSANE
Another classic, great band
You should check out machine by Born of Osiris... that song is all low growls but honestly any thing they make is a work of art 🙌
Periphery - Psychosphere (theres a one shot video, all real time)
I think you should react to Charles berthound Barbie girl is the hardest song. It will give you a new respect for bass guitar on your “quest” to broadening your music maturity I guess is a good way to put it. And I’m subscribing now. Keep up the good work
Nightwish : Ghost Love Score (OFFICIAL LIVE)
Just 2 get you into a totally different type of metal
Alex terrible has a bunch of cover videos he converted to deathcore. Need to check those out my guy. They are awesome. The doom one especially.
Our dude here seem to get into heavy stuff fairly easy. Maybe... maybe we should Infant Annihilator?..
the drummer has multiple drum videos where it's just him. th-cam.com/video/clG9RbvapaI/w-d-xo.html is a great one
Awesome reaction, STP is always super hype! I also prefer the growls and gutturals in deathcore, we share a preference🤘. Getting your voice to be able to do stuff like this is definitely possible, just takes alot of work and training.
The point of moshpits is to release stress and get rid of excess energy.
Check it.
Yes my friend, its real. He really sounds like that.
As is custom when I find a new reactor
Infant Annihilator - Blasphemian
Why does Alex even need a mic he can sing through the sounds of the end of the world lol
I dig this, man. New subscriber. If you want some suggestions:
* anything by Polyphia
* We Butter The Bread With Butter - 20km/h
hell yeah! added to my queue!
Archspire - golden mouth of ruin! Perfect start in techdeath for rap fan!)
you should try we came as romans - darkbloom and maybe the "new imagined" basically remix featuring brand of sacrifice which is just a high energy banger
and for Lorna Shore you should give sun//eater a try which is a lot heavier on the lower sounds.
loving the reactions and actual feedback
Also if you want something that’s closer to rap and metal 100% check out guerrilla warfare run it back or control it’s fucking fantastic 🤟
It was the wall of death, not a moshpit🤘
Love your reaction! By the way, most of this song is in English 😊
If you like the demolition I think you would also like ( evolving ) by darko and ( shoe shine for Neptune ) by arsonists get all the girls
Demolisher*
"Dude its that real?" Yes man its real, enjoy😆
Waiting for some Infant Annihilator songs) Maybe Infant Annihilator - Blasphemian
You should check out gojira there pretty sick one of my favourites
