Worship goes far beyond music - right to the core of how we live our daily lives before God. Paul described worship as the presentation of our “bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God” (Romans 12:1). This ultimately involves honoring God with all of our being - with our hands, with our speech, with our minds, with our hearts and with even our dialect songs.
Even so, honoring God with our voices through song is still an important part of worshiping Him. We are exhorted to “[address] one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with [our] heart” (Ephesians 5:19), and singing has always been central to the life of God’s people.
Sometimes we go to the extra mile to use our indigenous tongues or languages to express our worship to God. Some Yoruba songs are very powerful and gives total adoration to God in such a manner that mere words cannot describe.
