If anything, the "rock" playlist should be split into a mix of metal, punk, and rock. The only problem is, these genre mix A LOT. Pop punk is punk and alt-rock together. Metalcore is metal and hardcore punk together, etc. And a lot of bands like Breaking Benjamin, Papa Roach (maybe?), do both alt-metal and alt-rock.
it's kinda like the story to Brutal Legend, where the guy sets up for a rock concert and the band ends up playing some really poppy shit, that's what a lot of this was... sad how Rock has gotten like this.
Yeah Japan is a great and weird place at the same time. I guess there is a cost for having great bands like band maid and Babymetal and that cost is known as anime
You hear a guitar with any distortion whatsover, its rock nowadays. I used to only listen to Rock when I was a teen but I can't anymore, just feels like pop to me now lol. Metal babyyyyyy
I think when it all comes down to it, people don’t actually know what rock is. When I think of rock today, I think of black veil brides, alter bridge, shinedown, nickleback, airbourne. Stuff like that, whether or not it’s called hard rock or not. Even though a lot of the stuff I named is metal influenced also. Tremonti and sevendust could be considered hard rock or rock with metal influences.
I'd not but black veil brides as Rock music maybe Andy biersack on his own as Rock artist but the band is more metal than Rock looking at songs like fallen angles, knives and pens, ect. But like all bands that start off metal or hardcore they probably have gone over to Rock. Example would be how bmth went from hardcore to electronic Rock.
You're point I came to last week when I looked at "New Rock" on spotify and I was completely disoriented and mostly by just the lack of any trends or "genres " It is very hard work to go thru it cause 50% I cant stand

Music in general, because of how many distinct genres we have, is going to see a *bunch* of mixes. Metal alone has had multple multiple different things that have come in to influence it, from Symphony Orchestra, Opera, to Electronic all coming in and spicing up the genre. Genre mixing is just going to happen going forward and lines are going to get blurred. I personally like it as someone who likes multiple different things.
Maneskin is an italian band that gained last (or previous) eurovision contest, the have a lot of rock influence, try to listen some other songs of them (my humble suggestion).
That's hilarious surf curse was on this list and you roasted it. I grew up playing shows with them all the time in the LA garage rock music scene back in high school. That made me chuckle because all of the music was basically exactly like that XD
I hate when I come across TH-cam made rock playlists and it has songs like holy wars, master of puppets, freak on a leash and duality. I’m literally saying in my head these arent rock they’re metal. it’s like TH-cam can’t tell the difference between ROCK and METAL.
I freaking love Mammoth WVH, I saw them at their first and second concert ever and was so lucky and got a signed record!! You should check out Dirty Honey too, they toured with Mammoth and they aren’t too bad
I find most of the time that rock music is defined by a standard set up of guitar(overdriven in most cases besides pop rock and indie rock) bass, and drums. There has to be a rock beat that drives it meaning an alternating kick and snare pattern. Maybe there will be a second kick on the offbeat every other beat and there will usually be a crash or some kind of open cymbal 4th or 8th note pattern. Rock can span from anything like surf curse (indie rock i'd say)and Boy pablo (pop rock) to punk music (pop punk, hard-core or other wise) some people consider metal as a sub genre of rock but I personally consider it it's own thing. Side note: the drums have to be actual drums in my opinion, not programmed in with a midi controller or something like that(obviously you can make any kind of music with a midi controller but at the very least if you do and you want to make a rock song, use a kit or sample pack that actually sounds like a rock drum kit and not 808s or electronic snares and hats)
I think Royal Blood could be an example of what modern rock is, its differen't from oldschool rock but still heavily based on blues and rockn'roll and is not as soft as soft rock nor heavy as metal and post hardcore
I almost never listen to any mainstream rock basically more into the sub genres rn im hooked on starset, ig u could call it "space rock", their songs have a lot of atmosphere, depth, they feel pretry cinematic
I was sure you would like Poorstacy. This guy is so creative and his songs are so cool. I concider it as metal even if it's more a kind of emo rap btw.
lmaoo Ikr like I really like some Jeris Johnson songs but they're not really rock and it's pretty obnoxious of him to be like "I'm bringing rock back" like whaaat

I would actually say that rock and metal is more diverse now than it's ever been, you just have to look for it. There's lots of good bands out there right now.
Spotify playlists are basically pop and rap playlists influenced by Billboard (managed by pop and rap lovers, obviously), so for them, everything else that has an electric guitar = rock, there's no more genres for them.
Some of the best "Rock" in the last ten years have almost all been Neo-psychedelia, garage rock, stoner rock, Psych rock Bands mainly from LA and Australia.
You can tell alot of these bands are influenced by Linkin Park, nu metal and metalcore, nothing against that tho, its cool to see some new things in the "rock and metal" scene
Totally feel the struggle. I tryed to figure out the whole Metal and Rock thing a while back. Ended up concluding Rock as you know it is classic Rock. All the new stuff evolved and influenced by classic Rock must be called Rockinstein or something. Modern Rock a wild creation. Thus the name Rockinstein. Also not to mention, there are kickass rock bands from across the lands that sound more rock than some north american guys as well.
I miss guitar solos
Agreed
@Muck Hard disagree. It’s a buildup and a release of tension to hype people up and it adds such a great energy to the song. I LOVE breakdowns, and I say this as someone who has a distaste for jumpscares in horror films, and prefers more atmospheric horror.
Great video as always!
6:44 that is pronounced like a soft or dragged out o in Sweden, Norway and Denmark. The name means moonshine (not the alcoholic kind, but the poetic). They are the Italian band that won Eurovision last time. The girl in the band are from Denmark I believe and she got to name the band.
Love from Sweden!
stand atlantic is one of the best bands of these new pop punk scene, listen to their record called skinny dipping, it's so good!!
there’s a person named nothing,nowhere.
Nothing Nowhere!!! :)
Holy crap it's actually you. I LOVE YOUR MUSIC KEEP IT UP!!!!
I actually enjoy a lot of Slash and Myles Kennedy’s catalog.
Same.
They are the only artists i rely on .
Stupidly underrated post
Rock bands popular right now... Foo fighters.Shinedown. Breaking Benjamin. Badflower. Highly suspect. Ayron jones. Chevelle. MammothWVH. Greta Van Fleet.
The alternative and emo scene right now is absolutely thriving. I can’t be more proud of Poorstacey, Ghost Killer Entertainment, Jeris Johnson, Yungblood, and BMTH is helping bring all of these guys into the spotlight while also taking inspiration from them. It’s a great time to be a fan of this style.
yesss! MGK upto some extent too
@@rithvikO_o MGK definitely helped influence the style! I don’t think his comments about Slipknot where great at all and I think he stepped out of line, but I would be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy his rock music. It’s great and it’s forward-thinking.
And then Slipknot just put out a song recently that doesn’t sound any different than anything else they’ve done since 2014 and I got pretty disappointed. Oh well. I still would probably take Slipknot’s side on the matter, but they’ve gotta get heavier. Corey’s screams compared to people like Spencer Charnas, Courtney LaPlante, Will Ramos, etc? It’s laughable.
@Call Me, BLEGH Me, If You Wanna Reach Me My favorite non-metal album ever is The Black Parade by MCR. It’s an absolute masterpiece Imo.
@Call Me, BLEGH Me, If You Wanna Reach Me Early AFI is killer man.
@@ryanbollinger1759 I completely agree with you
I'd love to hear your take on a band like Foals - they've some heavy songs and some not so heavy songs, very much in the indie vein but goes into heavier rock, but they're really creative and underrated imo
"Well, there's guitars"
- Nik Nocturnal
^^^ Big brain conclusion
If anything, the "rock" playlist should be split into a mix of metal, punk, and rock.
The only problem is, these genre mix A LOT. Pop punk is punk and alt-rock together. Metalcore is metal and hardcore punk together, etc. And a lot of bands like Breaking Benjamin, Papa Roach (maybe?), do both alt-metal and alt-rock.
it's kinda like the story to Brutal Legend, where the guy sets up for a rock concert and the band ends up playing some really poppy shit, that's what a lot of this was... sad how Rock has gotten like this.
Rock is now anything with an actual guitar. The bar is literally buried at this point
It gets serious when anyone opens Paint.
Facts
You should have listened to all "i wanna be your slave" the chorus rocks the hell out really ! And no metal influance !
FOALS are actually fantastic live. Saw em a few years ago.
The best rock band currently is from Japan. Band Maid. They play with so many genres. You'd probably love the unseen world album
Japan releasing both the weirdest and the best bangers
check out babymetal too
Yeah Japan is a great and weird place at the same time. I guess there is a cost for having great bands like band maid and Babymetal and that cost is known as anime
@@entitledkidyourtoysaremine930 i dont have a problem with anime but it's so damn popular and its everywhere and i dont give a damn
Måneskin means moonshine in danish, but not like the alcohol. But literally like the light that we see from the moon
Oh, moons are pretty good
That’s an odd choice for an Italian band
@@evilemuempire9550 I was thinking that too
@@evilemuempire9550 the bass player is half Danish
@@kaspersrensen3540 That makes a lot more sense then, though I suppose there are a lot of American bands that take Scandinavian names anyways
Tremonti and sevendust could be considered hard rock or rock with metal influences.
i just think of anything with guitar bass drum set up is rock, may be too broad of a definition tho
I feel like sevendust is whatever the hell they want to be.
those are all extremely mid or below average bands
Breaking Benjamin too
I'd not but black veil brides as Rock music maybe Andy biersack on his own as Rock artist but the band is more metal than Rock looking at songs like fallen angles, knives and pens, ect.
You definitely should record a single video only listening to Måneskin, cause they represente a side of rock that not everyone gets at first. Whether you like them or not, just give it a try.
You could listen to Lividi sui Gomiti, For Your Love, Zitti e Buoni, close to the top, coraline, vent'anni
That poorstacy track was produced by oli Sykes and Jordan fish from bmth so thats why it's so good.
Makes sense
@@NikNocturnal yeah every artist they choose to work with/for turns out to be really really good
Nothing But Thieves is so, so good ❤️❤️❤️
Music in general, because of how many distinct genres we have, is going to see a *bunch* of mixes. Metal alone has had multple multiple different things that have come in to influence it, from Symphony Orchestra, Opera, to Electronic all coming in and spicing up the genre. Genre mixing is just going to happen going forward and lines are going to get blurred. I personally like it as someone who likes multiple different things.
aye yo, now this is epic
:D
Maneskin is an italian band that gained last (or previous) eurovision contest, the have a lot of rock influence, try to listen some other songs of them (my humble suggestion).
Måneskin is one of my favorite bands right now and so it Nothing But Theives
That's hilarious surf curse was on this list and you roasted it. I grew up playing shows with them all the time in the LA garage rock music scene back in high school. That made me chuckle because all of the music was basically exactly like that XD
I hate when I come across TH-cam made rock playlists and it has songs like holy wars, master of puppets, freak on a leash and duality. I’m literally saying in my head these arent rock they’re metal. it’s like TH-cam can’t tell the difference between ROCK and METAL.
nothing beats when the autogenerated rock playlist recommended to me had infant annihilator as the thumbnail
all the best rock songs have been made already
They forced the man to make a whole chart
I freaking love Mammoth WVH, I saw them at their first and second concert ever and was so lucky and got a signed record!! You should check out Dirty Honey too, they toured with Mammoth and they aren’t too bad
I saw that tour. Both good live acts
You cant talk about rock and not mention Poppy's new album Flux. It has 90s alternative rock written all over it and it sounds fantastic.
I almost never listen to any mainstream rock basically more into the sub genres rn im hooked on starset, ig u could call it "space rock", their songs have a lot of atmosphere, depth, they feel pretry cinematic
wow, someone else that listens to starset!!
Nothing but thieves is pretty sick. I listened to their discography on loop everyday for 2 years on the bus ride to college
I was sure you would like Poorstacy. This guy is so creative and his songs are so cool.
I concider it as metal even if it's more a kind of emo rap btw.
ROCK gives me energy.
BAND MAID gives me energy.
BAND MAID Is ROCK.
Oh hell yes, BAND-MAID is life 🤘💯
I love nothing, nowhere. Listen to his solo stuff and the music like that at night usually. But he did good on that rock song.
It’s like when rappers call themselves rockstars
My favourite “rock” bank is red hook definitely recommend checking them out
I can't believe this is how I found out that Foals had a new song out
Me either
It’s all rock
Metal? Rock
Rap? Rock
Jazz? Rock
Renaissance? You guessed it. Rock.
My dude killed off Maneskin in the intro where half the instruments are still missing :/
haha so true
Surf Curse is great. They're like a garage rock band. They're from my home town Reno. Super cool dudes
Nothing but Thieves is fucking good!!
6:43, that's an å, used in the Norwegian/Swedish/Danish alphabet :)
Wait till he finds out what Jeris Johnson has been calling "rock"
lmaoo Ikr like I really like some Jeris Johnson songs but they're not really rock and it's pretty obnoxious of him to be like "I'm bringing rock back" like whaaat
Watching this reminds me of getting back to metal after 15 years playing jazz and blues guitar .
I have no clue what’s going on in metal today so that’s why I subbed to your channel to see what’s up. What is this “core” stuff? 😂
Last metal record I listened to was Children of bodom - Are you dead yet.
To be honest Nothing But Thieves are amazing. A little bit like Muse and very emotional without emo.
''there's a person named nothing,nowhere?''
yeah and im wearing his merch right now
I would actually say that rock and metal is more diverse now than it's ever been, you just have to look for it. There's lots of good bands out there right now.
Stand Atlantic and nothing, nowhere are two of my favorite artists
Only two rock bands I know of who consistently put out gold are Alter Bridge and Band-maid.
I quite enjoy maneskin. I recommend Zitti e Bueni if you want a more “classic rock-ish” sound
With all these new mixes of “rock music” being released, I can’t pick up my guitar without thinking what music really is
Easy answer: technical death metal. :P
if you listen to earlier nothing but thieves, you can hear the early british post hardcore sound. reminds me a bit of we are the ocean
You know what, most of it was not even too bad at all, but I agree, what the hell is Rock?
I am also ????????????
I’m so glad Pop Punk is making a comeback, missed it so much
You can tell alot of these bands are influenced by Linkin Park, nu metal and metalcore, nothing against that tho, its cool to see some new things in the "rock and metal" scene
Rock because of Rock and instein because of Frankenstein.
-> Rockinstein
