    I had to pull a pump today at work that was 549 feet down in a 6 inch well And attached and ran with two separate peices of 3/4 inch glued together PVC taped together to make it Stronger 🤣🤣🤣 talk about stressful .... I was able to retrieve and save the pump without anything snapping and falling to the bottom of hole and save the pump and all the wiring that's a win for me 🙏

Put those around the pipe, jack up the pump, put the next one on, take the first on off , jack it up repeat. That way I can protect my cherry butt. No use to get hurt if I can avoid it.

    Awesome videos my friend, thank you for sharing your knowledge!!! Quick question, when you thread the pump onto the fitting, do you use a sealant for the threads, if so, what type? as far as the hose clamps on the nipple on your black pipe right above the pump, how tight do you tighten them? I'm assuming you use stainless clamps?? Do you have a brand you recommend for the clamps? Thank you!

    • @h2omechanic
      @h2omechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I used All SS (Ideal brand) clamps. Use a nut driver, not a Flat Head. Tighten very firm. I'm pretty hard on the clamps, they hold up good but I can break the band if I get crazy on it.
      Any thread tape would work on the pump fitting, but I prefer to use liquid Teflon pipe dope. It's just way to simple and easy to coat threads & Tighten it in. Use 2 channel loks and Tighten it up good or it'll unspin itself. Stick with metal/brass or SS fittings. They live forever!

    • @h2omechanic
      @h2omechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Leave the breaker off for a day, let the well recover. It could be a worn out pump if it's a 2009 model. I'd recommend goulds pump 0.5hp 10gpm. If you kill the power & pressure goes down to 0, that means you have a leak in the line down in the well, typically a broke fitting between pump & pipe leaking out most of your pressure

    I have a 4 year old well, 279 ft deep. It has always had silt, I have seen people use air to blow the well. It’s a 100 GPM well. It gets silty after running it for 15 minutes or so. I have also heard people would dump smooth pea gravel down well to help settle it. Any thoughts on this? Thank you. Kelly from up in Montana, I like your videos.

    • @h2omechanic
      @h2omechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You'd have to contact your local well company about Air lifting or gravel packing. Only because without seeing what type of well you have and what the geology is like in the ground they, I can't make a proper recommendation
      But I will say this, if your well makes 100gpm, id suggest that the pump doesn't need to be set deep at all. The pump only needs to be 50ft below the water level. The deeper it is set, the worse the sediment will be.
      They could also camera the well & Inspect the casing to see if its cracked or leaking in surface water. Normally that's the issue.

    I have 2 wells on a property that we bought. One well is fully operational, the second well needs power. The well that has power is next to the meter and breaker box on the power pole. The second well is 300 feet away from the power pole. Would it be possible to run power 300 feet from the power pole to the second well? What gauge wire will run a typical submersible pump at that distance? I know the wire will cost an arm and a let. Alternatively, I could have solar panels on the 2nd well house roof, but that is an entire different set-up.

    • @h2omechanic
      @h2omechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      300ft run you'll need #10 grey wire.
      You can do it that way if you put the tank & switch at the well as well.
      Power goes to the switch first, then wire to the well/pump.
      Switch MUST! Be near the tank! It requires the coushin of the bladder or the switch will short cycle & kill the pump.

    Is there another method for attaching the wire to the pipe other than electrical tape? The last several times I have watched the people pulling my pump and the electrical tape was falling off. On the last well work that was done I was able to look at the screen of the camera they ran down the well and there was quite a bit of old electrical tape in the well, and it was not removed before they installed the new pump. Seems to me that this could potentially cause a problem if the tape gets pulled up to the pump water intake. The well I'm talking about is 115 ft deep with the pump at 105 ft. Well produces 3 GPM.
    I appreciate your videos. Lots of great information.

    • @h2omechanic

    Is there any preventative for the possibility of the well pump head cracking over time as you mentioned in your video?

    • @noyopacific
      @noyopacific 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am not sure what you mean by: "well pump head" so I'm going to respond to this question as if it applies to the well cap. Well caps are often plastic and so it certainly could crack, especially after long exposure to sunlight although I don't recall seeing this. To reduce the damage caused by sunlight exposure to the above ground components of a well one can use a removable sheltering cover. Some people build a shed over their wells but a well house can make it more difficult to service the pump and this shed turns out to be a poor place to store garden tools. Options for a lightweight removable well cover include buckets, barrels, tubs or bins. If you want something less utilitarian, a small, removable house-like structure (like a doghouse) could work provided that it is light enough to tip over and drag away to access the well.

      Up & down action is the best method but if its stuck for good, id first try a really strong magnet. Secondly, use a tractor & pull up till everything breaks loose.
      I send a heavy metal bar on a rope & try to knock it down. But I have a camera to see what depth it's at.
      Don't feel bad, it's a common mistake. 2 piece seals are a terrible design!
      You can always set another pump down the same hole if its a 6" well.
      Also a well drilling company will have a camera if you have the funds for that.
      If you plan on hiring someone, don't make it worse for them, leave it til they get there.

    Can a man and farm girl wife Han pull a well pump from a 231’ well? I’ve replaced everything else and the pump will not restart with 40psi in the pressure tank. After it sits a while and the pressure goes down it will build up 60 pounds.
    If two people who do home projects readily can pull a pump from 200 feet, what brand of pump do you suggest?

      I doubt u need to replace pump. Sounds like you have too much air in the tank .
      But yes, you can pull out your own pump with a few people. If its on white pipe you'll need a professional. All depends on what the drop pipe is

      @@h2omechanic we replaced everything including the pressure tank with the bladder type with 38 pounds of air

      Its very important if the pressure switch is a 40/60. The tank can't have anymore the 38psi of air. It's very important that it's not at 40psi. Most are shipped out with 40 psi & you have to let some air out.
      Test the pump by cutting the pipe out at the well & see if it'll run for 20 minutes just pumping onto the ground. If it quits you'll know you have to pull it out. If it'll run non stop, then it's something else..
      Tank air can only be adjusted with power off & all water drained out

      @@h2omechanic the well usually runs about 4 minutes at open hose pressure from the low point drain. Then after a minute or two it will restart but lately it only restarts if we shut the power off and let it sit for a few hours. We replaced everything except the pump and it still has the same issues. I have the original well report but it does not say what pipe is below the cap. My well cap looks exactly like the cap in this video. My well was installed 231’ in 1989 8” to 29” then 6” to 231’. No mention how deep the pump was set. My well company is still licensed but moved 7 hours away to another town.

    Started pulling mine out. Wish they wouldn't have used pvc pipe. It's a bitch to pull out by hand, especially when it's well over 100'. Anyway, great info, bud!

    Why do you call a coupling an " in line"? I guess it's a southern thing, like above ground well heads. Lolol

    Why don't you guys use polyethylene wire loom to run over the entire wire length, more money for you guys and wouldn't have to worry about scrapped wire lines.

    Looks like you’re in a hot environment so the removal won’t apply to my situation because the connection is 4 feet in the ground

      You have a pitless adapter to keep it below the frost line.
