I agree with your sentiment up to 'underdog' - it was a damn long time ago when Honda was an underdog by any measure, that would have been 50's or 60's, when they built this they were racing F1 and very likely had a bigger R&D department than Ferrari and Lamborghini combined, and with a budget to match it. But cars like this and the new GTR bring something to the world from a different perspective, and I think both have become and will continue to be inspiring to where cars go to in the future, there were several other cars like that from Japan further in the past.
The original NSX with the pop up headlights is still my favorite. The new NSX is a great car but perhaps a bit to complex and expensive it’s not selling that well. The original car was spot on.
I think it failed because the final product is more of a high priced design study that left the concept of high performance (compared to the offerings of today) as a coincidental add on, thus making a car that is both another bland instance of technical ultra-modernism and unfulfilling in what its supposed to be in the first place (a sports car).
For those of you upset about his English, please let us know how you get on next time you do a video voiceover in your non-native language. Perhaps you’ll then be more inclined to give the guy a break. And PS great to see him hanging it out on dirt. For driving not polishing, right?.

As an American I understood him perfectly. His opening analogy of comparing the impact a car can create vs looking at a piece of art was in my opinion better said than the majority of native English speakers here.
Great owner, great car and great mods! I started reading here and started seeing "keep it stock". Listen, these mods are reversible but everything is well done and tasteful! Virgin cars are out there but not everyone likes those dinky little wheels that came on it, or the choking exhaust system either. Tweaking a car accordingly is all apart of being a car guy, it has to reflect YOU and what YOU are about, period!
I'm lucky enough to be close friends with a man who has a '91, he throws me the keys without even thinking so I have a good amount of seat time in it. Everything that was said I agree with 100%, the feedback and tactile sensations you get, the ergonomics, the design and focus on driving, it's all amazing and nothing comes close to it in my experience.

The current NSX has everything the previous one did not have, and it's exactly the reason why it will not age gracefully. It was mechanical engineering and ergonomics at it finest. Something the Italians, Germans, or British did not achieve back then. More and more people are asking Honda about the Gran tourismo concept, the so called baby NSX. A modern nsx with out all the extra hippie BS.
This guy has successfully built the most perfect NSX ever. I've always thought these cars just needed light, tasteful mods to really stand out. Wheels/tires, suspension, brakes, very light aero enhancements and an exhaust. If the hood was painted and the car was white, this would be my ideal NSX. Very, very good film.

The 90's were a golden era for Japanese sports cars and sport compacts. There were so many great choices: 300ZX, 240SX, NSX, 3000GT, Eclipse, Supra, Integra Type R, Civic SI, MR2, etc.
Always have loved these ever since I was a kid when my father was working for Comptech. They are truly special cars. I wish I could afford one, but I'll just watch this video and dream for now.

This is like the trifecta for Petrolicious. The car, the owner, the camerawork. This still one of the best videos they've shot in terms of cinematography. And Sean has such a great perspective on car owning and he's able to verbalize it so well. There are a few truly great interviews on this channel, Sean is definitely one of them.

The guy is extremely articulate, but English is apparently not his first language. Yes, somewhat hard to understand with dropped consonants it gets a bit muddy. Otherwise he seems to know what he is talking about.
Great video. One of my favorite cars, always has been always will be. I would love to own one someday. Nothing is built like this anymore sadly, and as much as the new NSX is a track monster, you just will never get the driving purity that 90's sports cars offer. Long live the 90's, gone but never forgotten.

The first one from some time back had little in the way of drive time with the NSX and veered off into showing a different car entirely. This video was much better. The opening shot for some crazy reason made me think Millennium Falcon in the hangar on Hoth :o
When I moved here to Japan in 2002 I bought my father-in-laws green 1997 Honda NSX Type-S with only 12,000km for the equivalent of $15,000. I now have 196,000km on it and have had 0 mechanical issues. It is completely original other than I put black magnesium wheels on it in 2010. Truly a great car and I plan to give it to my kids one day.
Wow...was that El Mirage where Knight Rider intro was shot!? I've had the opportunity to put some miles on a 1992 NSX thankfully. This was a great representation of that car. The feel this car has, the rotational confidence it has...this car isn't about horsepower, it truly is about purity. There isn't a more analog car out there, that truly rewards you and makes you push harder to find all it has to offer. Like he said..buy one, because the only direction they're heading is UP. Interesting factor is, good luck finding a low mile one. These NSX's were like Civic's...gas and oil, total reliability. That's where it TRULY beat Ferrari of the era. I drove an F355 Ferrari a lot...pure junk vs a 92 NSX in terms of driving experience.
The NSX looks still hold up today with no problem, and the interior looks so awesome and cozy. Huge cool points for driving it on dirt, shows you're a true car enthusiasts.

I've been waiting this moment for a long time, thank you Petrolicious.
Alot of enthusiast bought theirs when this became ridiculously cheap I want to say closer to 20k. I would of bought mine if I could but I was late to the party money wise. I am still glad other enthusiast got theirs because now I see them at car shows and on the streets which wasn’t the case a few years back. The gym I go to even has an NSX owner and mind you the membership is only $10.00 a month. It goes to show you that those that truly enjoy their cars are the enthusiast that dream of owning their favorite car and actually drive them.
That was the start of a new generation the NSX concept and a good idea using pinifarina design, Honda is doing great cars today and I liked a lot the S2000 model
Probably the best looking Japanese car ever made IMO. I have a friend who owns one of these and a Type R and for sheer drivability I prefer the Type R. NSX handles beautifully but I think lacks "cojones" of the Type R. Nevertheless, Petrolicious doing fantastic work again.
My friend just sold his NSX and he also had a Type R as well. Since his NSX had the removable roof, he also said the same thing; apparently the non-slicktop NSXs aren't that rigid. Still a pretty awesome car though!
I presume you mean the Integra Type R Eric? And I would agree having driven both(and owning an R). The NSX is a _fabulous_ car, full of real innovation for the time, but I found the non R version more a high speed GT type affair. It's more tricky at the limit too(though that's more likely my lack of skill) and you can approach the limit more comfortably in the R. The NSX-R is a different beast to the standard NSX, more track focussed and raw. The latter is the one I'd want.
MrGrentch yes I mean the Integra Type R. I've driven 2 different NSX's and 2 different Integra Type R's and found the Type R much more exhilarating. And I should modify my original posting. The NSX is one of the best looking "modern" Japanese car, but my favorite Japanese car ever is the 240z. But I prefer European cars to Japanese, which is probably why this was one of my least favorite Petrolicious postings. Still I found the car more tolerable than it's owner.
Nice review. The NSX is Acura’s best car. It was definitely ahead of it’s time. The styling is timeless. It is almost 30 years old but it still looks modern in my opinion. You have to give Honda credit because they developed an exotic sports car that was reliable and comfortable to drive every day. This forced their more expensive competition to step their game up. That says a lot.

timol125 that’s true and there’s no adjustability to the oem suspension if you’d like to go lower etc. kw is one of the best suspensions if not the best for the nsx if you’re looking to adjust to for your usage

There's more to suspension than dampers and springs. Literally every length, angle, point of rotation and pivot within the suspension geometry, with respect to the chassis and locations of its mass, determines the handling characteristics of the vehicle. Buy a physics textbook, a statics textbook and a dynamics textbook and be on your way to making wiser TH-cam comments.
Wdym? He isn't being unrealistic when talking about the fighter jets' secrecy in those years and to be honest, this Purist project seems really intriguing and really shows you how much they care about these cars, I don't think it's unfathomable that people will still be driving that car in 200/300 years, they were built for quality and for perfection, nowadays it's not needed considering the shift away from combustibles and the fact that nobody even thinks of buying a $100,000 unless they are rich due to insurance, maintenance costs and all the rest. I admire Mr.Lee, he has a dream and won't let it remain a dream.
The NSX to me is the real JDM unicorn. I've seen a handful of Skylines, Evos, Supras (owning a Mk3 7M-GTE myself) and I think one or two RX-7s over the years here in Germany. Also an F40, Porsche 959, Viper... But I can't remember actually having seen even one NSX in that time. It's probably the Zenith of mixing reliability with advanced tech, sports heritage and knowledge and everyday usability. The JDM idea of a 911 in my opinion.

Here's what you need to know: 1. Developed by the legendary Ayrton Senna. 2. Respected by the legendary designer Gordon Murray, who owned one. 3. First accessible performance supercar, regular drivers (99,99% of all buyers) actually could drive fast. Took 5-6 years before other manufacturers realized Honda was onto something and consequently made their supercars more drivable for non-professional racers.
1. It was Not developed by aryton senna He just provided some feedback on what he felt needed to change after test driving it. 2. It was not accessible it was actually over priced according to many which is why it didn't sell in the beginning roughly 120,000k u.s dollars in today's markets accounting for inflation.
Mr Lee makes a wrong statement, The NSX was not designed by Pininfarina. It was designed in-house at Honda. They went to them for their first concept but ended up using their own design. Also Senna did not have a lage amount of input on the car. The books say he was at the track one day and took it for a run. When he came back he was not completely pleased. They ended up stiffening by 50%. However as always, another great video that I look forward to seeing every week! Keep it up guys!!

Two feelings. 1. Happy to see Petrolicious finding an NSX to feature. 2. I am frustrated of not be able to see a clean And a more iconic NSX to be filmed. You can find a plain ‘91 NSX but without all non sense modification. The loosen wire in the cockpit was something that hurt my eyes.

I'm glad Sean likes his car, one of 18,000 produced, but his opening comments make it clear that he's never been in the presence of great art. The sound of a car is not art. The driving experience is not art. The visual design of a car involves art but great art touches your soul and changes your life and your perception of the world and the place you hold in it. So don't assume that, just because you're jonesed about your car, it's somehow more meaningful than experiencing great art. It's just a thing you happen to like.

I presume you mean the Integra Type R Eric? And I would agree having driven both(and owning an R). The NSX is a _fabulous_ car, full of real innovation for the time, but I found the non R version more a high speed GT type affair. It's more tricky at the limit too(though that's more likely my lack of skill) and you can approach the limit more comfortably in the R. The NSX-R is a different beast to the standard NSX, more track focussed and raw. The latter is the one I'd want.
MrGrentch yes I mean the Integra Type R. I've driven 2 different NSX's and 2 different Integra Type R's and found the Type R much more exhilarating. And I should modify my original posting. The NSX is one of the best looking "modern" Japanese car, but my favorite Japanese car ever is the 240z. But I prefer European cars to Japanese, which is probably why this was one of my least favorite Petrolicious postings. Still I found the car more tolerable than it's owner.
Nice review. The NSX is Acura’s best car. It was definitely ahead of it’s time. The styling is timeless. It is almost 30 years old but it still looks modern in my opinion. You have to give Honda credit because they developed an exotic sports car that was reliable and comfortable to drive every day. This forced their more expensive competition to step their game up. That says a lot.

timol125 that’s true and there’s no adjustability to the oem suspension if you’d like to go lower etc. kw is one of the best suspensions if not the best for the nsx if you’re looking to adjust to for your usage

There's more to suspension than dampers and springs. Literally every length, angle, point of rotation and pivot within the suspension geometry, with respect to the chassis and locations of its mass, determines the handling characteristics of the vehicle. Buy a physics textbook, a statics textbook and a dynamics textbook and be on your way to making wiser TH-cam comments.

Wdym? He isn't being unrealistic when talking about the fighter jets' secrecy in those years and to be honest, this Purist project seems really intriguing and really shows you how much they care about these cars, I don't think it's unfathomable that people will still be driving that car in 200/300 years, they were built for quality and for perfection, nowadays it's not needed considering the shift away from combustibles and the fact that nobody even thinks of buying a $100,000 unless they are rich due to insurance, maintenance costs and all the rest. I admire Mr.Lee, he has a dream and won't let it remain a dream.
The NSX to me is the real JDM unicorn. I've seen a handful of Skylines, Evos, Supras (owning a Mk3 7M-GTE myself) and I think one or two RX-7s over the years here in Germany. Also an F40, Porsche 959, Viper... But I can't remember actually having seen even one NSX in that time. It's probably the Zenith of mixing reliability with advanced tech, sports heritage and knowledge and everyday usability. The JDM idea of a 911 in my opinion.

One of the most beautiful material I've ever seen about the NSX. Wonderful stuff.
Here's what you need to know:
1. Developed by the legendary Ayrton Senna.
2. Respected by the legendary designer Gordon Murray, who owned one.
3. First accessible performance supercar, regular drivers (99,99% of all buyers) actually could drive fast. Took 5-6 years before other manufacturers realized Honda was onto something and consequently made their supercars more drivable for non-professional racers.
4. The Wolf (Harvey Keitel) in Pulp Fiction drove one. Even Quentin Tarantino knew its worth in the 90's.

2. It was not accessible it was actually over priced according to many which is why it didn't sell in the beginning roughly 120,000k u.s dollars in today's markets accounting for inflation.
Mr Lee makes a wrong statement, The NSX was not designed by Pininfarina. It was designed in-house at Honda. They went to them for their first concept but ended up using their own design. Also Senna did not have a lage amount of input on the car. The books say he was at the track one day and took it for a run. When he came back he was not completely pleased. They ended up stiffening by 50%. However as always, another great video that I look forward to seeing every week! Keep it up guys!!
Even now this is still 95% better looking that the crap we have. This is such a beautiful car. I remember seeing one in person for the first time when I was younger then being able to sit in one a couple years later was such a happy time. Always

Two feelings. 1. Happy to see Petrolicious finding an NSX to feature. 2. I am frustrated of not be able to see a clean And a more iconic NSX to be filmed. You can find a plain ‘91 NSX but without all non sense modification. The loosen wire in the cockpit was something that hurt my eyes.

Every time I see a NSX video, it makes me want one.
I'm glad Sean likes his car, one of 18,000 produced, but his opening comments make it clear that he's never been in the presence of great art. The sound of a car is not art. The driving experience is not art. The visual design of a car involves art but great art touches your soul and changes your life and your perception of the world and the place you hold in it. So don't assume that, just because you're jonesed about your car, it's somehow more meaningful than experiencing great art. It's just a thing you happen to like.
