इस बात के महाभारत या प्रामाणिक पुराणों में कोई संकेत नहीं हैं कि शकुनि कुरुवंश से कोई शत्रुता मानता था या बदला लेने का कोई संकल्प उसके मन में था। उसने जो भी किया वह अपने भानजों के लिए किया। उनके हित के लिए उसने अपने जीवन का अधिकांश भाग अपने राज्य से दूर हस्तिनापुर में बितायाऔर उन्हीं के लिए लड़ते हुए उसकी मृत्यु भी हुई।
शकुनि को महाभारत के सबसे बुरे चरित्र के रूप में जाना जाता है पर उसमें कम से कम दो गुण बेहद सकारात्मक थे। पहला गुण अपने भानजों के हित के प्रति उसका समर्पण था जिसकी चर्चा मैं पहले कर चुका हूँ। दूसरा गुण उसकी नीतिकुशलता थी।(यद्यपि उसकी षड्यन्त्रकारी प्रकृति और सिद्धान्तहीन छलनीति की प्रशंसा नहीं की जा सकती।) वह इस बात को समझता था कि युद्ध से पाण्डवों को नहीं जीता जा सकता अतः उसने पाण्डवों को मारने के लिए लाक्षागृह काण्ड जैसे षड्यन्त्र रचे और उनका राज्य हड़पने के लिए जुए की सलाह दी। बाद में घोषयात्रा युद्ध में दुर्योधन की पराजय और अपमान के बाद उसने दुर्योधन को पाण्डवों से सन्धि करने की राय भी दी। दुर्योधन के मन में पाण्डवों के प्रति इतना द्वेष भरा था कि उसने यह बात नहीं मानी और इसके बाद शकुनि द्वारा दुर्योधन को सलाह देने की कोई चर्चा नहीं आती।
यह एक निश्चित सम्भावना है कि यदि दुर्योधन कर्ण जैसे अदूरदर्शी मित्र की अपेक्षा शकुनि और अश्वत्थामा जैसे अपने असली हितचिन्तकों की राय पर ध्यान देता तो पाण्डवों के साथ उसकी स्थायी सन्धि हो सकती थी और महाभारत का विनाशकारी युद्ध टाला जा सकता था।

7 years worth of tolerence, patience and wait. Enough to make anyone well versed with other people's moves, patterns and give a good sense of opposite person's motive , intent behind their actions and words...
I maybe reading too much inbetween the lines but harsh , humiliating tough experiences, continuous betrayals and repeated back-stabbing have taught me, not everything in this world is a coincidence and not everyone in this world is a friend...
Don't think for a sec, that I am not complaining or writing (read:whining) about my pain in here doesn't mean I don't feel it or not in pain anymore... The things you have done to me and which I allowed myself to go through...Pain and suffering are going to be my constant companion throughout my life...
But yes I have moved on... Moved on knowing better that complaining about these things won't help me... I can only do those things which are in my control... External things which other people do, afflict pain, humiliation, betrayals, white lies , back-stabbing , I have no control over them or their actions...
All my life, I have never tried to intentionally hurt or humiliate anyone... If happened by mistake and brought to my attention I have been the quickest to apologise and say sorry even when it wasn't my fault, in order to sustain friendships and I learned my lessons when the same people didn't think twice before breaking my trust and hurting me...
Never have I delved in gossips with an interest to know what is going in other people's lives or hacked their phones to tap into their personal conversation or chats which they are entitled to choose to make public or not...
I know I come across a rude or arrogant to few people but that has never been without a valid reasoning and justification behind the same... Not a rebel without a cause...
And to be honest, I don't care what others think or talk behind my back... When nice people, people with whom I never had any altercation or argument and no problem, start to do other people's bidding and join the crowd/forces to mock you and play mind games with you, whom can you trust in this world and whom can you call a friend... All are same and you simply can't control or change their mind if they choose to side with the opposite group and not you...
I know people still are busy filling ears and hatching plots to cover up for their own lacunas and mistakes... But that's okay! That's the best they can do...
I can only control my mind to ignore them and focus on my own actions to improve myself...
If they succeed or loose , is not going to impact me and vice versa... So why should I bother about their games or what it is they aim to achieve by doing it...
But all I can say is it is wrong... So so wrong...
If people don't themselves want to share their own personal life or decisions they make with others , how can they feel entitled to know and forcefully acquire such personal private information from somebody else's life...
But yes as I said, none of my business to worry about... I leave that to God, the Almighty and ever merciful to be the best judge, because he is better aware of what goes inside everyone's heart and their deepest desire and the plots they plan and the schemes they weave... And if no bad intent involved then why so much secrecy and multiple middlemen involved... Be real, get on face to face, speak your mind and heart out once and for all and be done with this...
These spooky games aren't doing good to anyone and don't deserve your time and attention and neither mine...
Ps- In a world full of hypocrites and opportunist back-stabbers, don't be a Shakuni mama to others with your own ulterior motive but be as Lord Krishna , a true friend , voice of good and guidance...

अक्सर यह कहा जाता है कि भीष्म ने अपनी शक्ति के बल पर सुबल पर दबाव डालकर गान्धारी का विवाह धृतराष्ट्र से करने के लिए उसे विवश किया। शकुनि ने इसे अपना व्यक्तिगत अपमान माना और उसने इसका बदला लिया। पर इस बात को मानना कठिन है। भीष्म पितामह के बारे में जो भी हमें पता चलता है उससे यही सिद्ध होता है कि उनकी विदेश नीति कभी भी इतनी आक्रामक नहीं थी कि उनसे भय का कोई कारण हो। दूसरे देशों पर किये उनके किसी भी अभियान की चर्चा नहीं आती। और तो और अपने भाई चित्राङ्गद के हत्यारे गन्धर्वों तक से उनके बदला लेने की कोई बात हमें नहीं सुनाई पड़ती। (चित्राङ्गद गन्धर्वों से युद्ध करते हुए मारा गया था।) काशीराज की कन्याओं के अपहरण की घटना स्मरण करके गान्धारनिवासी इस बात की आशंका कर सकते थे कि भीष्म उनकी राजकुमारी का जबरन अपहरण कर सकते हैं पर उस समय जबकि राक्षस विवाह असामान्य नहीं थे यह भय का कारण नहीं हो सकता था। यह भी ध्यान रखना चाहिए कि यद्यपि उस समय युद्ध बहुत होते थे तभी भी युद्धों में राजाओं को मारने की घटनाएँ कम ही होती थीं और किसी राजा को हराने के बाद उसका राज्य हड़पने की घटनाएँ तो न के बराबर होती थीं। यह भी स्मरणीय है कि उस समय के राजा वीरभाव से भरे होते थे और बल के भय पर उन्हें बेटी समर्पित करने के लिए बाध्य करना सरल नहीं था। अतः यह मानने का आधार नहीं है कि भीष्म ने दबाव डालकर सुबल को गान्धारी का विवाह धृतराष्ट्र से करने को विवश किया।
यह प्रश्न उठाया जा सकता है कि बिना किसी दबाव के सुबल गान्धारी का विवाह धृतराष्ट्र से करने को कैसे तैयार हो गया। मेरे विचार से इसका कारण यह रहा होगा कि भीष्म और सुबल दोनों ही इस बात की पूरी सम्भावना कर रहे थे कि कुरु राजसिंहासन का उत्तराधिकारी धृतराष्ट्र का पुत्र ही होगा और इस बात पर दोनों में बातचीत हुई होगी। कुरु राजवंश की इतनी प्रतिष्ठा थी कि उसका उत्तराधिकारी अपना नाती हो यह कल्पना सुबल के लिए बड़ी सुखद थी। राजवंशों में हुए विवाहों में राजनीतिक आकांक्षाएँ ही सर्वोपरि होती हैं यह एक जाना माना सच है।

This is not true man. This story is added in the later versions. According to the Mahabharata, Shakuni just wanted to take revenge of her sister getting blindfolded for marrying Dhitrashtra. Because according to him, it was an act of humilitiation of the Gandhaar Kingdom which was intentionally done by the Kuru kingdom. This story was shown in both B R Chopra Mahabharat and Mahabharat (2013) which aired on Star Plus

It is a fake story. In reality, Shukni and all his brothers were captured and prisoned by Bheeshm for raping girls and harassing people in their kingdom. On the request of the king(shukni's father), Bheeshm agreed to leave only one son alive. So family decided to save shukni as he was the most cunning. Later Shukni planned for the war to take revenege but he was killed in the war also.
