In general we would recommend applying a light mist spray of water prior to rendering to ensure the dry, thirsty brickwork does not draw too much moisture from the render on the brickwork.
Other substrates may require a primer but this will vary depending on the surface being rendered. Conditions for this can be found on the product datasheet
Do all brands of acrylic render have the same finished texture? I need to patch a small, but conspicuous, area, but don't know which brand was used originally.
Hi do you have to mist or wet the brick first?
What about a sealer before painting ?
Good question! Advice on sealer applications over renders prior to painting should be obtained from the paint supplier.
Moisture barrier ‘sealers’ are designed to prevent moisture within the render migrating to the surface to prevent pinholes/flaking in paints and other coatings. These could be an option but I would recommend checking with the paint supplier if they believe there will be any interactions before attempting this.
Hope this helps
is the sponge supposed to be wet or dry before finishing?
Generally a damp sponge but not too wet i.e. not dripping.
