You can also use the other Contax TLA flashes with the G1, with the same functionality, up to a maximum of 3 connected via cables to the hotshoe, although that is more of a studio setup.. The G1 supports second curtain sync too, although the TLA140 doesn't.
What is as your aperture set at for the photo shoot with the girl? My first roll turned out over exposed using ttl mode with 800 speed film. Those look perfect!
Hi Daniel~ I had the same machine just as you did, contax g1 with tla140, and I used ttl for flash but all of my photos turned out overexposed, have you experience that? or do you know how to adjust it ? thank you
Does anyone have any experience of using the Contax g1 with the fuji ef-x20 flash? Im wondering if the ttl feature will work with the g1, but not sure as the flash came out a lot later than the Contax g1
hii Dan! very nice photo !! I have a TLA200 flash, some of the results are red eyes. thank you for review TLA 140. btw, what is your favorite aperture when taking photos with flash? and minimum speed?
thanks very much! appreciate the kind words! if you’d like to avoid red eye - for sure go for the TLA 140! All of the photos in this video tended to be around f2.8-f8 and 1/60th shutter speed!
love the video, i watched it like 5 times haha, can i set my G1 on auto focus when i have the flash on?or do you suggest to change the distance setting during the shoot
@@DanielJamesBird Thanks :) I just love the mood of thoose pictures. Well… this sucks… Where am I going to get more money to buy yet another camera and lens xD
hey daniel, did you shoot on auto on the camera aswell or were you adjusting settings? I'm new to film flash photography and am confused how to meter in that scenario.
@@DanielJamesBird The flash has a fresh battery, and flashes when I press the test button, the display in the viewer of the camera recognises that a flash is attached but won’t fire when I press the shutter button.
hm - I’m afraid I don’t know then at that point. It doesn’t work on A or M setting? I haven’t encountered that issue. Perhaps give the contacts on the shoe mount a clean?
For the scenes at the wedding, we’re you changing your aperture around to match the scene or did you just stick to one for the whole lighting, ie f8 or f5.6 thanks!
I can't remember what aperture it was shot at - but it definitely stayed the same the whole time! Quite possibly f4 or even f2.8 as the 28mm is quite wide!
thank you sir, my TLA140 just arrived from japan. Appreciate your overview.

Amazing info! That’s great to know Paul thank you.

You ever get any info on this?? I sold my TLA 200 bc everything seemed overexposed
Hey! Sorry for the delay - majority was shot at f2.8 using automatic on the flash!
I wonder can I use a non-TLA flash? I have so many flashes from previous film cams.
Definitely worth giving it a try! My studio strobe light works with it, so I'm sure other flashes may well also.
Hi Daniel~ I had the same machine just as you did, contax g1 with tla140, and I used ttl for flash but all of my photos turned out overexposed, have you experience that? or do you know how to adjust it ? thank you
i had one, you can turn speed shutter weel to red symbol X and turn the ttl on the flash
Do you know if this works for the T3?
Hi, great review. Would it work on a Minolta Hi-Matic 7s ?
So put the shutter speed in X if you want communication for shutter speed via the TTL mode?
en automatico tambien reacciona si el flash es contax
Hi Dan, lovely video. Have got one in order so will send you my snaps once it’s delivered. I’m already looking forward to the next video!
Can you use this flash in manual mode on a film slr such as the olympus om2-n?
Hi! What lens did you use for the wedding! I don’t think I saw that!
Thanks!
Hi Carissa! 28mm f2.8 - the only lens I own for the Contax G1!
Does anyone have any experience of using the Contax g1 with the fuji ef-x20 flash? Im wondering if the ttl feature will work with the g1, but not sure as the flash came out a lot later than the Contax g1
Actually I’ve just played with the g1 and efx20 some more and it seems to be working fine !! Will update you with results though when I see them.
Great photos! I am using the Tla140 and SA-2 with T3,any tips for the combo?
Great review. Does it work with fuji x100v ?
I use it with my x100v, amazing results.

What aperture did you use for image IV
I believe it was anywhere between f2.8 and f5.6 - can't remember exactly off the top of my head though!
@@DanielJamesBird thanks mate! Happy new year
Thank you! And to you :)
love the video, i watched it like 5 times haha, can i set my G1 on auto focus when i have the flash on?or do you suggest to change the distance setting during the shoot
Thank you Demi! I use it all on Automatic - the flash and the focus!
Hi Daniel! What film stock did you use for images IV?
Hi! It was Ilford HP5 :)
@@DanielJamesBird Hi Daniel! That can’t be right. HP5 is B&W. IV pictures are colored :)
oops my bad - Portra 400 in that case!

hi! For this I actually left it all on auto :)
Hey my TLA flash is not working. Any idea as to why
Hey there! if you switch it on when it’s not on a camera, does the little red test light come on?

@@DanielJamesBird yea I tried that but still not working. I’ll have to bring it in for repairs
@@loveclubfilms1634did you find a solution? Mine is also not firing but it test flashed and shows the flash icon in the viewfinder display
those photos have such a nice colour to them - what film stock were you using?
Thank you! They were Kodak Gold I believe.
Daniel. is that reggie? @ 1:43
when flash on you select X Mode or Auto Mode
I use it all in the auto mode!
thank you@@DanielJamesBird
