    Been using Duplicati for years. Very fine control of what gets backed up, and backups are encrypted at the source for security. I have a distant FTP server hosting backups, and have had100% success recovering files from backups. Highly recommended!

    Valuable insights! In the MSP world, your tools can make or break you. We've struck gold with a blend of robust backup and BDR strategies, cutting-edge cybersecurity, a powerful RMM, and Thirdlane Multi Tenant PBX for unified communications. This combo has been our ticket to service excellence.

    Had to smile: You keep calling it "Duplicity" but it's "Duplicati". There is a backuptool "Duplicity" for Linux nonetheless.

    I'm just an average guy doing projects for a living. Its got way to many choices for me. It makes nervous. Every choice means me going down another rat hole of time spent. Simple for you techies that love this world - its a nightmare for guys like me.
    What would be great is an overview UI that says only 3 to 5 choices and no more. Thats all. I dont care if I waste some storage space. Much better than wasting my time and stressing me. You guys work that out and just do it. I would be a customer of that kind of product and I would be happy to pay for it.

    It would be nice if you could do a video on the warnings: what do they mean, what to do about them, and the meaning of the terms: Examined, Opened, Added, Modified and Deleted.
    Do these warnings compromise the integrity of the backup?
    Thanks

    • @viniciusgp5656
      @viniciusgp5656 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @denisesilvaart
      @denisesilvaart 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@viniciusgp5656 no, I just gave up and do the backups manually. Copy and paste to my external hard drive is doing it.
      I tried to restore the backup after having to reinstall Windows and I couldn't even do that.
      I guess that some of this stuff is only for people who know how to use it and have more knowledge than I do.

    The reason I like this program is that the backups are not singular binary blobs. You can choose which files to "backup", so if you're during a reinstall, you can just "restore" your data.

    How is working the "volumes" ? If I backup a project folder, will my folders hierarchy be respected? (sub-folders etc). Both on the cloud and at restauration stage. "Volumes" are ZIP files? I have files that are very heavy (+5 Go per file) so what happens in that case? If I backup let's say, 999Go o on a SSD of 1 To, if I need to unzip "volumes" here, in fact I will need an SSD of 2To? (because while unzipping, zipped files AND unzipped files will be on the same disk... so it doubles the needed storage space to unzip it). If some files are in the same directory but are in different "volumes", when I unzip them, will they be restaured in the exact same sub-folder? I'm very worried about files getting in the right place because my projects files have a strict hierarchy that has to be respected (linked files etc).

    Much talk about how to use it, but not very clear on key points about what it can DO:
    1. Can I save my WHOLE system?
    2. Can I, if my PC dies, simply buy a new PC and restore EVERYTHING. Not just some project files - I mean EVERYTHING as in EVERYTHING. Windows, all applications, all files, EVERYTHING. Such as: If I bought the same PC again, I would be in the exact same situation, without having to reinstall a single program (besides Duplicati)?

    • @gmansi
      @gmansi 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bread5947 You can backup the entire disk yes. But it does not work as a disk image but as a backup. In other words, it would not help you if one day the system is damaged or corrupted and you want to recover the last intact disk image and have your operating system again. It does help you recover the files. I do not know if you understand.
      You can also try Restic which is very good although a little more difficult to learn than Duplicati, but at the backup level it works perfectly.
      If what you are looking for is to make an image of the disk, with the operating system included, I recommend Clonezilla

    Is there a way or a software that just copies the folder and files in the original source structure so when i connect the "destination" hard disk to another pc i can read those folder and files normally, without me needing the backup software to read or restore those files? I can not find one. I tried many and they all, after the backup, create ONE SINGLE FILE that can only be read from the software that created it. And if i connect that external HD to another pc, I can not read those copied files coz the backup software is not installed in that second pc.
