That was essentially the problem I faced until recently. Then I realized there was no point in making small purchases for builds that I don’t find interesting, but may contain cool minifigures because 1 I could probably find the figures for a cheaper price online and 2 I knew I’d eventually take apart the build and the figure wouldn’t even be worth selling because of the small set price. I now only buy sets that I’d enjoy every part of regardless of the price (probably not super expensive or super cheap).

I literally only buy Lego sets if I love the build, i mean, minifigs are tight but I’d rather have the build more than anything
I prefer finding someone who sells only minifigures or sets rather than buying LEGO products. I contact the seller to make the purchase. I am collecting LEGO in that way.
If the minifigures and sets inside the LEGO products are absolutely necessary, then it's okay to buy them all, but... if not, expenses might end up being a bit more than expected.
In all seriousness mate, I understand where you’re coming from! I’ve been going back lately and buying some old sets off of eBay that I used to own but destroyed. It’s really hard selling your legos, I haven’t sold any of mine yet! But I mean, you get to that point where you ask yourself,”What am I going to do with all of this?” Now for me, it’s way easier because I’m a stop motion channel and I can use the sets I don’t like and use them to create sets for stop motions! Unlike some other people that don’t know what to do with the sets. I don’t know, it’s a lot more complicated to collect lego then some people think

That’s fair mate I have sets in boxes but I might sell some sets but display my minifigures separately

The lego sets are always usually fun to build. Just the satisfaction of building it is worth more than just buying it pre-built. The minifigure collecting part is fun too but mainly if you’re going to actually use them for something and not just leave them to dust on the shelf. Building something new from the sets, something with your own imagination, is even more fun because you get to create whatever you want with interlocking bricks and pieces. Or making stop motions, using pieces in your own creative way to express emotions or add to epic actions, it’s all your choice. Whatever you choose to do with your collection, is up to you. I buy sets mainly on 3 reasons:
1. Enough minifigures that are cool and not just repeats
2. If the build is someting that us actually cool
3. Because im mainly a star wars fan its also just based on what ship it is and how much i like that ship

Always be open to new interest even within a particular discipline. It is great that you are always evaluating you situation and critically thinking. Values that will make for a successful adulthood.
