Man I remember those days, when I used to play online mobile games, kik became popular suddenly and me and my friends used to use it to talk to each other, it was all fine at first until some year later that a lot of scary stuff started happening, scary death messages, old men texting me, etc, etc. To see that this app got even worse now, it's truly upsetting and disappointing.

Luckily, I always made sure to block people who I did not know because my parents made sure to tell me internet safety tips. I never used my real face on my profile, same with my friends. I never touched groups either. Seriously, internet safety is something that NEEDS to be taught to young kids in the digital age.

@@industrialover it's easy to pray on the imagination of teenagers because you can lie point blank and say you hacked their iCloud or Google storage and let their imagination run wild on what pictures you can claim to have and send out two friends and family. It's easier to let them fill in the blanks and scare themselves because stranger on the internet always seems more dangerous after you've been made a fool of by them
I was groomed on kik when I was 14-ish and I just have to say I appreciate you talking about this. I feel like people knew kik was dangerous but was ignored and then forgotten. I’m still uncomfortable talking about what happened to me years later but seeing all the comments and watching this video brings me a little bit of comfort not being alone.

I used this app in 2016/2017 as a 16 year old. Never knew about this side of Kik. I accepted messages sometimes from strangers but was very well taught on never sending anything to anyone growing up. I never encountered anything like this. I suppose I'm lucky.

I can personally attest to the disgusting nature of Kik. When I was a teenager multiple people, more than I'd like to say, took advantage of me using the app. It's a horrible place to be especially as a vulnerable teenager.

I was groomed from 11-16 by a guy on kik. He was 18 when we first started talking. We stayed friends until I was about 15 and then things got.. really out of hand. It was very toxic and I realized how gross and monstrous he was. He threatened my life and I had to delete all social media for a while. Then I threatened him with the police and I haven't heard from him since thank God. I never really thought about how weird and gross our relationship was until I was 18 and in a real relationship.

The whole app is just filled with suggestive pictures, and it wasn’t even 5 hours and I literally had a sex bot dm me an inappropriate picture. The app should definitely have its rating changed.

If I'm being truthful kids will still find a way to get onto apps like these from another person. Really it's the kids and parents fault with this one parents should be more involved in their child's live but some parents are and tell their children what to do and not what to do, but they still do it

I was groomed as a kid on kik, and the only thing that saved 12 year old me from actually meeting up with that person was my own intuition. I hung out in the mental health spaces, which now that im grown I realize is where predators go to hunt. I have so many stories from that app that could have turned terrifying real quick if I had just made one wrong choice.

This may sound messed up, but I had a friend who made a fake account on Reddit and posed as a 20 year old woman looking for dudes to chat with on kik. Over the span of a year, he had probably 500+ dudes send him extremely obsessive, and sexual messages. One of them even made a drawing of the woman he used as his profile picture. Others said they would do anything they asked him to, even if they wouldn't get anything in return. It was insane
Trust me, women know. A huge amount of men act like complete animals online. I had to change my snoo profile character off of a woman because men would see I had a female avatar and send me creepy messages. It is very pathetic

I have also had some random guy show me his thing right off the bat in a Discord dm randomly. Then I’ve had like 8 people in a Discord server ask me to send them pics of myself and my ‘t**s’ and ask whether I’d get w**. Alot of these people are insane.

I was one of the students who went to this HS and when this happened with this student on kik it was something that no one saw coming. But just remembering that this could've happened in my old HS is just scary to say the least. Even till this day me and my HS friend's still think about this indecent.
As a parent myself i staryed teaching my daughter the horrible side of life young, people always say they don't want to ruin their innocence, i just want them to be a kid etc. But in the internet age there is no innocence, only ignorance to the dangers out in the world. People think they can raise their kids like we were raised because it was only a couple decades ago, but the internet has changed everything when it comes to predators. My daughter has made me proud with all her decisions thus far and all we can do as parents is hope we gave them the tools to survive.

9:30 - my best friend just sent me this and i cant believe someone iss talking about our school (im literally having ptsd at the thought of this event), but thank god nothing happened but when it went down, shit was so scary to hear- literally everyone in our school was fucking terrified to go back, im just glad someone from kik reported it (i thank whatever god or higher being is out there), because shit could've gone really differently if no one reported it-

I didn't really know what Kik messager really is. But until I watched this video, I still cannot believe the people there can be such preds. Well in, not just Kik, but EVERY social media has its fair share of the most despicable people ever created, some of them being on them even when theyre born.
I use to use kik back in 2015 and my experience was very jarring to say the least. I use to get tons of messages from new people all trying to exploit me. I had made a couple of friends who turned out to be not good people. Horrible stuff man.
What annoys me that most is the fact that publicly the evil and disgusting people are barely held accountable, it's always "the platforms fault". No, there are just disgusting and evil people out there.

Kik has always been an iffy place, but it was the best place to chat for a while. I wish the video would have gone more in depth into the history of kik and its different changes over the years, and how to secure your account from all these people messaging you etc. (i wasnt even aware public group chats were a thing, I joined the app before that was added.) I think it also would have been nice to go more in detail about the experiment you guys did with chat receipts etc. Otherwise I really liked it! Im glad someone took to talking about Kik in the end and gave a voice to the victims of the app. Thank you for this!
The last time I logged in to my kik, it was rampant with inappropriate bots and ads, and it was practically unusable. That was in 2020. I actually had three in total, because I kept getting harassed by someone on there before, in 2017, I finally decided to reach out to my friends and let them know I wasn't using it anymore due to the harassment. It took me until I was 17 to be taught about red flags and standing up for myself. I endured that harassment for over 2 years because I had no idea who to talk to about it. I was scared. I'm in my 20's now, and I consider myself lucky. It could've been so much worse.
I downloaded KiK when I was in 3rd grade, summer school. My friend introduced me to the app and I was glad because we had no other forms of communication. Making an account was very easy, the email didn't have to be verified. I was in a group chat with my friend and some mutual friends. There was a guy who had his display name as this celebrity, I searched him up and I pretty much knew it wasn't him, that didn't matter though. He messaged me in DMs and asked if we could roleplay. Now, I was an 8 year old Gacha kid so I guess I liked to roleplay. I said okay and wondered what he wanted to roleplay. He said he wanted to do a " Master-Servant " roleplay and I was scared I'm pretty sure he knew my age, since my friend introduced me to the group chat. It was obvious that he's way older than me since the topic of Master-Servant anything was new to me.
Between 2013-16/17ish, I was upset that my foster mom wouldn't let me have this app when my older foster brother William had it. Now I'm grateful I never joined it, thank you!
I recall using kik when i was 16 and met a guy who was at least 25. I used to talk with him about random stuff until he sent me a selfie of himself, wanting to become closer to me. Naturally, I didn't send him any pictures of myself but still continued chatting with him, UNTIL he started telling me how he would do explicit things to me, anything that was sexual in nature. I reminded him that I was still a minor and he said and I quote, "that's not a problem". Man, i was so disgusted i immediately blocked him and uninstalled the app but I really regret not saving any pictures of his face and conversation and sending them to the police.
I get asking parents to supervise their kids, but if your app is that inappropriate for minors, then dont kade it accessible for them. They'd make a killing if they leaned into it being for adults

I was big into anime and used it to talk with school friends and role play as anime characters with strangers mainly from Anime Amino. I remember meeting this guy that was 28 around when I was 13 and he groomed me into believing that I was in a relationship with him. I’ve seen things no child should see at that age because of that app. So many other disgusting things went down between me and child predators during the time I had kik. I wish I could erase it all
i remember having kik all throughout middle school. Went from a easy way of texting friends to joining random groups full of gorey images. I still remember seeing gorey sights and just laughing or showing friends with no type of emotion towards it. Eventually I grew out of kik and i stopped seeing gorey images. Last year on reddit I stumbled upon a graphic image and it sent shivers down my spine and I saw the image stained in my eyes for days. That was when I realized kik was definitely not a place for a kid to grow up on and I am glad I got out of it before I became desensitized as an adult.

TikTok is a million times worse. Reddit, 4chan, etc… Point is, once one goes away another one pops up in its place. Believe me, there are way worse places than Kik, and Kik is teeeeerible. A kid should not have control of what app they download. Furthermore, parents need to hold themselves responsible, in terms of staying educated. Just because you get older, doesn’t mean you stop learning what is “in”, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A PARENT. Also, it has to be said, that every social media platform, you should have to verify by ID and photo. Yes, it would take forever to sign up, but you’d be able to identify child predators that are registered immediately, at the very least as a countermeasure.

I downloaded this messenger because of some friends I met in a game and they didn’t have WhatsApp. It was alright for that purpose alone, but then I found out about the group sections… I was like 12-14 years old at that time and didn’t think about anything bad before joining some groups. I don’t remember the name of it or what people wrote, but I do remember a gif/video that was sent in one of them… It was a guy brutally stomping on a cat‘s head until it… well, you can guess the rest. It was a traumatizing experience and I can’t get that image outside my head when I just hear the word „Kik“

I used this app in 2016/2017 as a 16 year old. Never knew about this side of Kik. I accepted messages sometimes from strangers but was very well taught on never sending anything to anyone growing up. I never encountered anything like this. I suppose I'm lucky.

I was groomed from 11-16 by a guy on kik. He was 18 when we first started talking. We stayed friends until I was about 15 and then things got.. really out of hand. It was very toxic and I realized how gross and monstrous he was. He threatened my life and I had to delete all social media for a while. Then I threatened him with the police and I haven't heard from him since thank God. I never really thought about how weird and gross our relationship was until I was 18 and in a real relationship.
Thank you for bringing light to this, i hope that soon kik can be made 18+ or ideally just removed from the appstore. Being on kik was one of the worst things that has happened to me, terrible people forced me to do things i was not comfortable with at all.

As someone who used kik at this age along with my friends, I witnessed ALOT of people circumventing the supervision. Like deleting the app, hiding the app under fake names, logging out before they check your phone or logging out every night etc. there were ways lol
If I'm being truthful kids will still find a way to get onto apps like these from another person. Really it's the kids and parents fault with this one parents should be more involved in their child's live but some parents are and tell their children what to do and not what to do, but they still do it

I was groomed as a kid on kik, and the only thing that saved 12 year old me from actually meeting up with that person was my own intuition. I hung out in the mental health spaces, which now that im grown I realize is where predators go to hunt. This may sound messed up, but I had a friend who made a fake account on Reddit and posed as a 20 year old woman looking for dudes to chat with on kik. Over the span of a year, he had probably 500+ dudes send him extremely obsessive, and sexual messages. One of them even made a drawing of the woman he used as his profile picture. Others said they would do anything they asked him to, even if they wouldn't get anything in return. It was insane
Trust me, women know. A huge amount of men act like complete animals online. I had to change my snoo profile character off of a woman because men would see I had a female avatar and send me creepy messages. It is very pathetic

I have also had some random guy show me his thing right off the bat in a Discord dm randomly. Then I’ve had like 8 people in a Discord server ask me to send them pics of myself and my ‘t**s’ and ask whether I’d get w**. Alot of these people are insane.

I was one of the students who went to this HS and when this happened with this student on kik it was something that no one saw coming. But just remembering that this could've happened in my old HS is just scary to say the least. Even till this day me and my HS friend's still think about this indecent.

As a parent myself i staryed teaching my daughter the horrible side of life young, people always say they don't want to ruin their innocence, i just want them to be a kid etc. But in the internet age there is no innocence, only ignorance to the dangers out in the world. People think they can raise their kids like we were raised because it was only a couple decades ago, but the internet has changed everything when it comes to predators. My daughter has made me proud with all her decisions thus far and all we can do as parents is hope we gave them the tools to survive.
Most people dont know what Kik is anymore, but when I was thinking of redownloading the app (because my friends and I used to use it) , I saw some videos on it being scary and more
When I installed it I got contacted by a prostitute. So from that alone, Kik devolved into a shady dating app

Well in, not just Kik, but EVERY social media has its fair share of the most despicable people ever created, some of them being on them even when theyre born.
I use to use kik back in 2015 and my experience was very jarring to say the least. I use to get tons of messages from new people all trying to exploit me. I had made a couple of friends who turned out to be not good people. Horrible stuff man.
What annoys me that most is the fact that publicly the evil and disgusting people are barely held accountable, it's always "the platforms fault". No, there are just disgusting and evil people out there.

It's crazy how well-made these videos are but how underrated they are. Hopefully, you grow up to be a successful documentary channel because you deserve it.
I had kik as a very young kid, starting around like nine and ending around 12. So many creepy old men reached out to me and tried to groom me. Those memories still haunt me to this day.
Kik has always been an iffy place, but it was the best place to chat for a while.
I wish the video would have gone more in depth into the history of kik and its different changes over the years, and how to secure your account from all these people messaging you etc. (i wasnt even aware public group chats were a thing, I joined the app before that was added.)
I think it also would have been nice to go more in detail about the experiment you guys did with chat receipts etc.

The last time I logged in to my kik, it was rampant with inappropriate bots and ads, and it was practically unusable. That was in 2020. I actually had three in total, because I kept getting harassed by someone on there before, in 2017, I finally decided to reach out to my friends and let them know I wasn't using it anymore due to the harassment. It took me until I was 17 to be taught about red flags and standing up for myself. I endured that harassment for over 2 years because I had no idea who to talk to about it. I was scared. I'm in my 20's now, and I consider myself lucky. It could've been so much worse.
I downloaded KiK when I was in 3rd grade, summer school. My friend introduced me to the app and I was glad because we had no other forms of communication. Making an account was very easy, the email didn't have to be verified. I was in a group chat with my friend and some mutual friends. There was a guy who had his display name as this celebrity, I searched him up and I pretty much knew it wasn't him, that didn't matter though.
He messaged me in DMs and asked if we could roleplay. Now, I was an 8 year old Gacha kid so I guess I liked to roleplay. I said okay and wondered what he wanted to roleplay. He said he wanted to do a " Master-Servant " roleplay and I was scared
I'm pretty sure he knew my age, since my friend introduced me to the group chat. It was obvious that he's way older than me since the topic of Master-Servant anything was new to me.
Between 2013-16/17ish, I was upset that my foster mom wouldn't let me have this app when my older foster brother William had it. Now I'm grateful I never joined it, thank you!

I recall using kik when i was 16 and met a guy who was at least 25. I used to talk with him about random stuff until he sent me a selfie of himself, wanting to become closer to me. Naturally, I didn't send him any pictures of myself but still continued chatting with him, UNTIL he started telling me how he would do explicit things to me, anything that was sexual in nature. I reminded him that I was still a minor and he said and I quote, "that's not a problem". Man, i was so disgusted i immediately blocked him and uninstalled the app but I really regret not saving any pictures of his face and conversation and sending them to the police.

I remember making a kik account when I was 12 and had it till I was around 15 before I moved to instagram. I was big into anime and used it to talk with school friends and role play as anime characters with strangers mainly from Anime Amino. I remember meeting this guy that was 28 around when I was 13 and he groomed me into believing that I was in a relationship with him. I’ve seen things no child should see at that age because of that app. So many other disgusting things went down between me and child predators during the time I had kik. I wish I could erase it all
i remember having kik all throughout middle school. Went from a easy way of texting friends to joining random groups full of gorey images. I still remember seeing gorey sights and just laughing or showing friends with no type of emotion towards it. Eventually I grew out of kik and i stopped seeing gorey images. Last year on reddit I stumbled upon a graphic image and it sent shivers down my spine and I saw the image stained in my eyes for days. That was when I realized kik was definitely not a place for a kid to grow up on and I am glad I got out of it before I became desensitized as an adult.

TikTok is a million times worse. Reddit, 4chan, etc… Point is, once one goes away another one pops up in its place. Believe me, there are way worse places than Kik, and Kik is teeeeerible. A kid should not have control of what app they download. Furthermore, parents need to hold themselves responsible, in terms of staying educated. Just because you get older, doesn’t mean you stop learning what is “in”, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A PARENT. Also, it has to be said, that every social media platform, you should have to verify by ID and photo. Yes, it would take forever to sign up, but you’d be able to identify child predators that are registered immediately, at the very least as a countermeasure.

I downloaded this messenger because of some friends I met in a game and they didn’t have WhatsApp. It was alright for that purpose alone, but then I found out about the group sections… I was like 12-14 years old at that time and didn’t think about anything bad before joining some groups.
I don’t remember the name of it or what people wrote, but I do remember a gif/video that was sent in one of them… It was a guy brutally stomping on a cat‘s head until it… well, you can guess the rest. It was a traumatizing experience and I can’t get that image outside my head when I just hear the word „Kik“

I have a couple suggestions tho, imo there are too many chapter separations and the video would really flow better with bigger more general chapters (just the borders of each chapter).
