THE BEST OF ALL ORECK VIDEOS you mention about tightening the three motor screws; I thought you were OCD. All three of mine were loose. I would never have checked! Thank you!! I have two XLs one of which is an XL commercial (the one with the loose motor screws). Thank you again❤❤

I noticed the "teeth" were facing up on each end of the the brush roller on the black plastic squares whe you took the plate off...when you swapped out the belt, you placed the teeth facing down when you reinstalled the brush roller. Can you elaborate on this? 10 to 15 years ago the brush rollers used to say "OLD" and "NEW" on the brush roller ends.

Sitting here at work watching this, down in the Springs. I'll check my xl21 out totally when I get home. Thanks.

I am glad to find someone who actually works on Orecks. Our store here in Murfreesboro Tennessee went out of business years ago. And that was about the time my vacuum roller quit turning. I have an Oreck XL 21 and it has not been used hard but the roller just stopped working so I replaced the belt after watching several videos. I’ve done everything they said to do but the roller still does not turn, though it looks to be in perfect shape. So I bought a new roller and replaced it just to see, but that did nothing. Also, I cannot push it over plush carpet now. It just stops. I can pull it backwards and it will roll and pick up, but I can’t push it. I could replace it with a cheap vacuum cleaner like others have suggested, but I have liked this vacuum cleaner and I didn’t want to replace it if I could fix it. I just don’t know why it won’t operate over thick carpet now and why the roller won’t turn even after replacing the belt. There are no longer any vacuum cleaner repair shops in Murfreesboro and none that I could find even this side of Nashville. Any ideas?

This store in Franklin is still in business? When I searched TN for a vacuum repair shop, nothing came up. I will check that out! Thanks!

Do the square end caps of the wooden brush roller have a specific orientation? I noticed when taken off the 1st time the "ridges" were showing but when reinstalled the side with "notches" were at the top? Mine have the words New/Old on corners of the end caps?

Great video. It would be nice to mention which side of the roller faces up, or towards the rug. I think on the black ridge pieces it says something like “normal” and “special”, which way should they face? Or does it matter. Thanks

Great Question! Normal refers to average carpet height, where as special is supposed to be for plush carpet. With these old Oreck's it is typically better to leave them on special. You will get a longer life out of the brush that way and it will be easier to push.

Where do I go when my oreck store closed down in covid.
I have a 21 year warranty. And they supposed to do a yearly inspection and fix any problems.
Is this vacuum the same as the xl 21
