- I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. Maybe you're right. They have so much important things to do that they decided to prioritize whatever they're doing than a blocked canal that can potentially flood the whole street or town.
And, there are not 5 other employees standing around watching him do all the work!

As someone who lives in Coastal Georgia, where 100+ days are normal in July and Augusst, I'm asking you to please be careful. We only do outdoor chores before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m. when it's cooler to avoid getting heat stroke. It was a cool video, but your safety is more important than showing us cool stuff.
Same in SoCal.
i only do work outdoors between 10AM and 5PM on hot days
I work in route pest control out in Atlanta. Outside, sun all day, high temps. I leave the truck on at all times with the AC blasting to take a break in between customers. I cant even imagine how hot other workers must be without that crutch

Old culverts here in northern California are 3 redwood logs stacked in a ditch
Many of these structures are from WPA Works Progress Administration.
This was one of FDR's efforts to recover from the Great Recession.

I definitely share the sentiment of wanting to use the bonfire method. My parents employ it to deal with cleared brush/limbs/vines on our property.
I would be hesitant about burning in place considering the heat shock potential to the masonry, the ecological and legal concerns of burning in a waterway, and the uncontrolled nature of that fire in a drought vs controlled bonfires in normal weather.
Match? That looks like a clog that's begging for some C-4.
Maybe a few kilos of tannerite?

Beside that, it’s way too hot at the moment for any of them to even bother. This is our greatest victory ever and we will go down in history!

You make tossing these branches look so graceful. Some of them looked pretty big and you tossed them like they were nothing. I can only imagine that it takes strength and a well practiced hand to make what you do look so effortless.

Beavers are crazy fast, they work with amazing speed and efficiency. Worse then rats sometimes.

Firstly, watching your videos, I definitely get why you warn people not to emulate what you do; being trained and knowing how to safely and correctly do what you do is extremely important. Your video also highlight how one person can just take half an hour and start fixing a problem that would normally take the city days to even consider starting.

Love the unclogging! The thought of several decades of silt and muck build up coming loose and heading down stream was a bit unnerving. I'm glad you chose not to do it on your own. 😇 Will be anxious to see the 5-6 month checkup. I wonder if "Idiot with an Excavator" will find their way down there and muck it all up! Thanks Post!
Electrolytes ( in powder form ) in your big jug of water will help you keep from having heat stroke, Post 10. With all the sweating you’re doing, you are losing electrolytes and just drinking plain water is not enough. We as subs., are always concerned for your health and well being! I just discovered you on TH-cam couple days ago! I am amazed at what you do in clearing out all these blocked streams so they don’t flood and the flow of water is restored! Thank you for your public service!! We need more of you in all the states!! I clear out the drains on my street when we have heavy rains so the street does not flood
Ooh!!! If the drought is still going, it'd be neat to see that old hydro dam you explored the inside of a couple of times. If the water is low enough, that may be possible to unclog too!

Very new to your channel i come across you about a month ago. Literally prefer watching you than paying for Netflix. It's just relaxing and interesting. Us British people could never cope doing what you do with that much heat. I'm looking forward to seeing you unclog blocked drains so I'm praying for rain for you. :)

Looking at this, i was thinking this would have been a great spot to do a controlled burn considering it's surrounded by concrete walls but I realized it could get out of control.

The headache and dizziness isn’t from heat. It’s from breathing foul air loaded with some serious biohazards. I would seriously recommend getting your tetanus shots updated and knock off at the first sign of respiratory distress.

11:14 That reminds me of cleaning out my mother’s house after she died. My siblings and I (4 total) would work all day getting rid of, and packing loads of stuff only to turn around to see four more full days of work - and that didn’t include the closets, drawers, bathrooms, refrigerator, and the big furniture.

The heat has been brutal this summer--many days with high temps and little or no wind. It's easy to get heat exhaustion working outside in those conditions. Glad you stopped when you did, though you got a lot done in a short amount of time. Hope the MDOT gets on this and cleans it up. I am glad that you are doing a community service and doing what the government is supposed to be doing. I am glad that you are going through the right channels. Like you say, this is a very dangerous job and we never know how deep the water really is. Keep up the good work!

Ahh, New England humidity; the only time I’ve seen a toilet “sweat”. It still shocks me to this day. Be safe out there and stay hydrated
truly amazing Post, don't let yourself get too sick over these things work before 6 AM to 10:00 am and after 7 PM nobody wants you sick with these things, and I'm quite surprised nobody has even told President Biden about you and had received some award for rescuing these little community problems that can seem little, that can grow quite large.

I'm glad you're being more concerned for your safety when working on these things, you've clearly gained a lot of experience and expertise. Honestly you could probably do some consulting work for civil engineering firms on culvert design & maintenance at this point. A lot of those folks could use the lessons you've learned from sheer experience!
