I grew up in Raleigh in the 1950's. Things have changed so much. Fed the pigeons there many times as a child.

You'd think a state with over ten million people, and ranked 9th in population in the country, could come with something better than this!!! eeyuck! Without a doubt, one of the ugliest state capitol buildings in the nation. It looks like it's wearing a crown, as if it won a contest of some sort. Luckily, the North Carolina state legislative building in Raleigh compensates for this eyesore. I toured the legislative building, and am happy to report that its beauty and elegance compensates fully for the sorry looking capitol building.

Agosto Girogio I agree, I've always thought our building was ugly even as a child!!! Lol. Compared to the beautiful Louisiana state capitol, this is truly an eyesore

Haaaaa😂 cause the superficial top coat is what matters. Explore the culture mates. Top Carolina is the most culturally diverse state in our union. From the cherokees to bald head. From farmers to technological empires. Cmon yall

I think part of the reason is because the south was poor in the old days and didn’t have the funds or network like the northern cities. However, the Biltmore estate in Asheville, North Carolina is fancy but that was built by a very wealthy New York family at the time
