I cry this hard every time I watch someone else go through it again, too. It's just a perfect ending, and watching others experience it is so, so good every time.
“I learned a lot, by the end of everything. The past is past, now, but that's… you know, that's okay! It's never really gone completely. The future is always built on the past, even if we won't get to see it.”
I see there are comments pointing out the things you missed. I get where they’re coming from but at the end of the day this game isn’t about checkpoints or marking things off a list… it’s about the experience! And I think you had your own, fun, emotional experience and that’s the point. Besides, it’s really tough to see EVERYTHING in this game without hints.
Thank you so very much for saying this. I feel bad for missing some key points at the end, but I am glad I can revisit in the DLC! I appreciate you for taking the time to let me know its okay :)
@@heyitsmaisy_No reason to feel bad. Nobody sees everything in a single playthrough. But it's interesting to learn all the details about this game. So for comments talking about the parts you didn't see, just think of them as cool details that people want to share with you. That's all.
@@heyitsmaisy_ Yeah, I remember another let's play where the person didn't realize the text was different at the end. They also went back after finishing the DLC and read it, so it's all good.
This is the take. The beautiful thing about Outer Wilds is that everyone has their own different kind of journey with it. Thanks for showing us yours Maggie!
Few things I need to give some props on: - Figuring out how to get past the anglerfish yourself. That is propably the most googled solution in the whole game. - Actually using the mark on hud to get to the Vessel. I dont believe I've seen ANYONE organically use that. - Using the flashlight to interact with quantum objects instead of spinning around etc. Very satisfying. -Being genuinely invested in the games narrative and letting it move you as much as it did. Thank you for this playthrough, it's been so fun 🌞
The vessel marker I think really comes down to whether or not you've used Mark on HUD throughout the game. I accidentally deleted my save file when I went to play the DLC and let me tell you I felt not having the vessel HUD marker when it came time to finish.
Also it kills me that she still was trying to land the ship in Dark Bramble instead of just letting it float in space 😆 but I can't complain too much she did insane.
There's this beautiful sentiment through this entire game about learning when to let go, and to appreciate what we're able to leave behind for those that come after. The Nomai never got to fulfill their goals for themselves, their life taken from them so suddenly - but their work allowed a fledgling astronaut to seed a new universe, and die making sure there is a universe for the next generation.
When the supernova music started, I would just sit back and enjoy the show. There we're quite a few times that I had just learned something new and was ready to go round again. Fitting.
i've always felt the end of this game hits so hard because it legitimately feels like 'closure' on something profound. every time i have experienced/watched others reach the end, it hits just as hard. beautifully made game.
1:06:15 I'm so happy you went back to talk to Solanum! The "think of you as a friend" line is easily my favorite moment in the entire game, and I was a little worried you wouldn't get to see it. I'm not even mad about the missed Vessel room or the Eye museum texts now haha 1:22:00 After seeing tens of Outer Wilds playthroughs, you're one of the very few players perceptive enough to see that the game displays the Eye coordinates on the screen (most others try to memorize them or take a picture/screenshot of the ship log entry). Then again, you're certainly the one that had the most trouble inputting it, so I guess it evens out 🤣 2:18:40 I'll absolutely be watching your DLC run, and I hope it starts next Friday but I don't mind waiting if not. Congratulations on finishing the main game!
I found it really interesting to see your reaction at the end, considering you missed the text explaining everything in the museum. At first I was afraid you’d just be confused, but I could tell at a certain point that the reality of the situation hit you. It was definitely one of the most beautiful endings to an Outer Wilds playthrough I’ve seen. And this is what I love about Outer Wilds! Even though all of us experience it differently, we all cry like babies in the end :’) I also have an immense fear of death, so it was beautiful to hear how this game affected you in that regard, like it affected me. This has been a treat, Maggie. Thank you. I absolutely can’t wait for your playthrough of Echoes of the Eye!
I’m a bit disappointed in myself for not seeing the plaques at the museum - I was hoping I had more time, but realized it was too late to go back once I got to the top of the observatory :( BUT I will definitely be jumping into the dlc so I can explore more of the ending again! The game does a really good job of explaining itself through dialogue and emotions, so the ending hit really hard for me. Thank you so much for watching my playthrough and I’m excited to continue this journey with y’all in the DLC :’)
@@heyitsmaisy_ But hey, it worked out in the end! I feel you though. I completely missed the Quantum Moon my first playthrough, so you can imagine how much I missed 🥲 Looking forward to it!
@@heyitsmaisy_ Yes, it's a must to do the full ending again after the DLC. Reminders: 1) You didn't explore everything inside the vessel. Is there still a "more to explore"? I'm not sure. 2) After the vessel warp, either on the vessel or on the Eye, take a look at the night sky. 3) Read the plaques. 4) We might throw in another "fun thing to do" after having started the DLC, even if its unrelated to it. And yes, many players do end up crying, and most can't point the finger as to why. They just do. For the DLC, remember to be observant, and "listen to what the game is trying to tell you". If you've found the clues for a puzzle, you will have what you need in the ships log. It's never about doing something completely obscure like in some old classic point&click adventure games. Instead the clues are there, you just have to make sense of them.
Reality of the situation in that things were ending, yes... but her theories on it all, no. I'm still confused as to where she got that the Nomai were trying to "save" the universe. But as we saw, they were certainly trying to understand it.
Welcome to the 'I just beat Outer Wilds Support group' The ending is very overwhelming. You will never be the same person again. Probs could use a pallet cleanser fun game before starting the DLC lol
I’m contemplating whether I should jump into the DLC right away or give it a little bit. I can’t decide, but if you have any game recommendations- please let me know! :)
@@heyitsmaisy_ I would give it a break for a week maybe two, but when you do start the dlc dont make a new save as you dont need to to experience the dlc content. in the mean time you could maybe play a game like journey
@@heyitsmaisy_ Outer Wilds and Subnautica communities tend to follow each other. That's a good place to start, Subnautica is a great game series (even if you have thalassophobia, you'll manage eventually). Along with Subnautica, you'll often see people ask for playthroughs of Inscryption, Return of the Obra Dinn, Tunic, Undertale, Ori and the Blind Forest (and its sequel), Control, Baldur's Gate 3, The Stanley Parable (preferably the Ultra Deluxe edition), Superliminal, Journey, Abzu, Jusant, Chants of Sennaar (my personal favorite at the moment), The Talos Principle, Baba is You, Hollow Knight, Shovel Knight, Vampire Survivors, The Witness and many more, depending on which mood people are in and which games have already been played on the channel. Honestly, you should create a post in the Community tab and ask for recommendations, you'll receive plenty! Don't hesitate to name a few games you've already played and liked, so we can refine our suggestions! ::)
@@heyitsmaisy_ I recommend Celeste. It's a very fun 2D platformer about a girl climbing a mountain. It has a great story and music. It should be a good palate cleanser before starting the DLC.
What a wonderful playthrough! I loved it because when I played this game first time, I was also struggling to understand a lot of things and also missing some others. And that's completely normal. Even so, the game hit me too hard, just like it did with you. And that's amazing. I loved your thoughts at the end. You missed some things at the "Eye's museum": there were signs explaining a lot of things about the game that could clarify your mind. But no worries: you can go back there after finishing the DLC. Some explanations: Solanum exists in a state of "dead and alive" because she "died quantum entangled" with the Quantum Moon. Though she lived thousand of years ago, we were able to communicate with her because, after she "quantum died", she wasn't "observed" until the moment we encounter her. So she became "trapped" in a quantum state and then time has ceased to matter for her; from her perspective, everything is happening in a continuous flow: she reached the Quantum MOon, and we arive there just after that. At the same time, she's dead: just look at "her corpses" when the Quantum Moon is orbiting other locations. As for the Eye of the Universe, it operates on principles that transcend ordinary time and space. When we observe the Eye, we see the "museum of our jorney" (you should go back there when you finish the DLC to read the signs), we see the "forest of galaxies" dying, and when everything looks dark, we see "us". We see a hope. And from us, a tree emerges. Life. And then comes our memories: our friends, what every single one of them represents to us, and then the song. The song transcend the barriers of space-time. The fire "cooks" all of this and creates the "possibilities". And the possibilies are related to remants of the old Universe. When we "observe them" (entering the "big ball" above the campfire), we collapse them and then a "Big Bang" creates a new universe. That's why the Eye is "older than the Universe itself": it's like the representation of all uncertains and when the "energy" is going out, it sends a "signal" so someone can "observe" these uncertains, collapse the possibilities and create a new Universe again and again. This could be the total end, but because of the Nomai efforts, we reached it, we saved the next Universe. Everything we experience within the Eye is a mixture of our memories and the quantum effects of the Eye itself. In truth, all our friends unfortunately were already gone, victims of the Supernova. We were talking to our "subconsciousness", and because we are deeply connected to them by the memories of their songs, that resonates through the Eye. And these "echoes" help give us the strength to fabric the new universe. How you said, everything ends. But from an end, we can have a new beginning. The DLC is amazing, I think you're gonna love it! But take your time if you want to rest and think a little bit about this game. There is an era "before playing Outer Wilds" and an era "after playing Outer Wilds" hehe welcome to the club! "The universe is, and we are" - Solanum ::)
This was such a pleasure to watch your play through - I've watched the ending many times and cried again right along with you. Awesome job and hope you play the DLC too! Just remember to do that ending again after you beat the dlc to see extras which i missed on my first playthrough.
Haha you went into full panic mode from the moment you pulled the warp core until the end of the game. Don't worry about missing stuff, especially if you plan to do the DLC, you'll wanna redo the ending afterwards anyway.
I just want you to know two things: 1) Love your playthrough! 2) Your playthrough has caused me physical injury. At 9:53, "Retrieve my scout" caused me to facepalm hard enough that it stings a little bit. ;-p
i think i saw like 12 different outer wilds gameplay (irl and here on yt!) and it gets me EVERYTIME. This game has the power to touch something well buried deep inside us. It's like evoking the fact that even the most tragic ends is... worth to be lived! Outer Wilds speaks about ends, and that ends should be celebrated as well as fresh starts. It talks about spending time doing what feels the right thing, even if we wouldn't be able to see the results (nomai's research for the eye, completed by an anonimous Hearthian). It's a shame that you didn't read the sign in the "museum" right after the Eye, they kinda gave the context of what was going on! But I loved you gameplay, so congrats! I'll wait for the dlc (oh my... this dlc...)
Its such a tragic twist of fate that the Nomai were so close to finding the Eye but the fact that they couldn't destroy their sun meant they couldn't reach their goal, and not only that but when a new comet entered their system the positive and explorative Nomai jumped at the opportunity of discovery, only to have it be the thing that killed their race. Then this lone Hearthian stumbled upon their research hundreds of thousands of years later, and instead of the blessing it would have been to the Nomai, it is a curse, having trapped the Hearthian's in a repeated experience of the natural death of their star, and the universe itself.
Note, the Interloper didn't kill the Nomai race, just the Nomai in the Hearthian system. You can see the incoming transmissions of modern Nomai in the Vessel, where they talk about Escall's Vesse's disappearance and the incoming death of the universe ;;)
Now you get to experience the joy of watching others play the game and cry alongside with them! When you're done with the dlc you should do the ending again, with less confusion/stress lol I really enjoyed this playthrough! And I will enjoy your screams of -fear- joy as you play the dlc!
I love at the end, in your closing where you're talking about death. No one else talks about this and this is what the game means to me. I respect faith and beliefs but in the end none of us know what happens after we die or where everything came from. The one possibility shown at the end of this game is beautiful. I cry every time I watch one of these play throughs. Btw your reactions in this episode were fantastic.
Got knocked out by hurricane Helene for a week so a couple days late, but excited to now be able to witness this grand finale! Your Outer Wilds playthrough has so far been one of the most fun I've watched! Now I am ready to witness the end of your journey. Thank you for sharing this adventure with us.
Thank you for the gameplay and for bringing back the emotions I felt playing Outer Wilds. The DLC is just as good as the base, so get your heart and some tissues ready. I'm looking forward to this gameplay. Greetings from Brasil.
The end is never what we hope for. First we want to stop the Nova until we learn...it's a star at the end of its life. and not just that but the end of everything. The Universe is going dark, and all the lives out there fade with it. Even the Nomia are forced to end their nomadic life and gather at the most stable star they can. the Eye sits, alone. It waits for a spark to set alight a new universe. You. The Hearthians are just taking their first steps into the Outer Wilds. They are so hopeful, looking out to the Dark forest of space, dreaming of new friends and stories to share. But for them the end comes to soon. like a life cut short before they have had a chance to truly lived. Except for you. Even if they didn't know it the Nomia left you a gift. Time. Just a brief moment in the life of the universe, and yet just time enough to reach out and touch the End of All Things. The End and a new Beginning. You did it. You found stories to share, new friends, and a chance for a new existence. And maybe, just maybe...One that will be better than what came before. Thank you for your story. :)
Thank you for posting this and putting yourself out there and being vulnerable for strangers on the internet. This is a very special game that touches a lot of people in a very unique way. Thank you for sharing your journey and letting us be a part of it. This game touches all of us in a very unique and special way. If you are looking for a video that dives into some of the themes, meaning, and symbolism in the game, I highly recommend a video essay from Ceave Perspective on Outer Wilds. It also only talks about the base game so there is nothing in there about the DLC or DLC spoilers with the video. Truly, this game changed my life.
I think one of my coolest revelations which i doubt we get to here is that the Nomai talk about amphibious four eye tadpole creatures and their life cycle, somewhere on Timber Hearth. And you realize that they *knew* you before your species even really came to exist. Really puts into perspective just how long ago they lived and died.
Thank you for coming to TH-cam! I don’t usually watch Twitch or streamers. So I think this is actually the first time I’ve followed someone play through an entire game like this. Since I had finished Outer Wilds, the only way to dive back into it was by watching others play it. I really liked the laid-back atmosphere of this series. I appreciated the balance between the silences and the commentary, letting the game speak for itself. Thank you so much for letting me relive this adventure! It was very fun and emotional. I’m really looking forward to watching you play the DLC.
I absolutely loved going on the journey with you😊😊😊 everyone experiences the game differently and it was so very special to see how you made it to the eye. Thank you for the ride. It will be so nice to join you again for the next loop into the echoes of the eye. What an adventure!
When you took out the warp core from ash twin, I was also being excited and nervous. Then you found the vessel, and the coordinate of the eye of the universe was showing on the screen, which shows you how to arrive here. You were so confused that you didn’t know how to enter the coordinates. I was anxious and felt a little happy at the same time. What a real feeling! Even if you don’t know what to expect yet, a sense of purpose and anticipation is clearly within you.Thank you for making me feel that amazing feeling again!
I actually didnt know that people had that much trouble figuring out how to input the coordinates! When i found the coordinates in the probe tracking module (after i had already found the vessel previously) i just knew exactly what to do with them? It might just be a difference in experience with games in general idk. Not trying to say im like better than her btw i just found it interesting, I think she beat the whole game faster than i did anyway
Congrats maisy! This was such a great playthrough, I was really impressed by how you tackled the puzzles. You're also a really entertaining and engaging creator, I'm definitely sticking around to see what you get up to next. If you want a short game recommendation to play between this and the dlc, Id recommend To The Moon, but be prepared to cry again!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the game! I loved watching you solve puzzles, your reactions, and I’m excited to watch you play the dlc. You’re a great TH-camr. This game has impacted a lot of people - on the level of a good piece of music or painting. I beat it a long time ago and still think about it. I hope you enjoy the journey.
Hey, you held it together better than I did. I think I cried for at least an hour after credits rolled. I really enjoyed your journey through Outer Wilds! Thank you for sharing!
2:08:13 Absolutely. I probably sat in silence and cried for about fifteen minutes after those credits ended, especially once you see the beginnings of new life in the new universe huddled around a campfire. It's truly a fantastic game, a one of a kind experience, and it will never not make me cry. Even watching it for the twentieth time as you played through it, it still gets me. Welcome to the Outer Wilds support group! 😅 You'll be chasing that high for the rest of your gaming career. Can't wait for you to play through the DLC!
I bawled my eyes out, then went on a walk around my neighborhood in the dark, wondering about life. Called my grandad in the morning and hugged my mom and dad.
Honestly, the only other game to really pull at me emotionally while simultaneously giving me crippling existential dread is in the same way as Outer Wilds is... the Echoes of the Eye DLC... But since you asked for suggestions: - The Long Dark (existential dread, cozy campfires) - Antichamber (puzzles, confusing geometry, existential dread) - Prey (2017) (existential dread in SPACE!) - Chants of Senaar (puzzles) - Subnautica (deep oceans on a water planet) - Tunic (puzzles)
I just made a comment using the word existential (and I know you added dread), but existential isn't really a negative word. I looked it up specifically because it's usually qualified with dread. I meant it positively. I know you didn't :p Quote from reddit: "Existentialism, in contrast, is quite a useful way to live one's life, and for me it has quite a positive connotation. Existential looks at the human condition as it is: We exist, apparently through natural and explainable means - and what are we then to do? Life is brief and uncertain, and existentialism suggests that at least part of the work each of us needs to do is to figure out what we're going to do with the time we have. What meaning are we going to create for our own existence?" Thought it tied in well with Maisy's last comments.
The long dark is such a great game. Honestly by far one of my favorite survival games. Not many games truly put you against the forces of nature like that game does. One moment, you find a nice cozy spot to make a fire and brew some coffee, the next you get lost in a blizzard, wolves howling in the distance and getting closer as you slowly start to approach death closer and closer.
@@FearlessGamer27 Right? Plus, isn't @heyitsmaisy_ from Vancouver Island? Great Bear Island is based on it, plus I think the devs are based in Vancouver (the city). It'd be a uniquely local experience!
Yah, i know that everyone makes up weird theories as they go through and also miss some things that seem obvious later (myself included)... but this is the first time I've ever seen anyone not just enter the coordinates left to right... as they are displayed on screen. It's coordinates after all. that aside, all and all, a great playthrough though. well done
It was hurting. Then she made the connection "Oh there's three of them" and I was celebrating. Very prematurely, it turns out... Oh it got even worse. When she said "Ok we'll do it left to right" and I could hear the supernova in the background. Window and legs were in danger for sure.
Definitely a long time viewer now. We've all been on a journey together. Outerwilds really has a way of making you feel connected to others. I've never had a game make me so strongly emotional and existential, such a testament to the overall story and musical composition. Extreme props to Andrew Prahlow.
Crazy how you can really feel the feelings all over again, watching someone else go through it :) thanks for the playthrough! Good luck on the DLC if you take it on.
Man, everytime I see someone completing the game I have to watch the last part. Congrats explorer, the song is complete the universe is over and thus, another univers begins.
You solved the puzzles, you made the journey, the tears were well earned. But I'm not ready to go yet! There are yet more tears to find in the DLC! Tears of frustration, happiness and sorrow alike. And we'll be here through it all if you do it!
Sure, you missed some things in the end but since you're going to play the DLC you get to see those locations again (with a slightly different ending...) so discovering that stuff will be all fresh and new to you. It's almost a win, isn't it! ^__^ Thanks for this playthrough. And yes, well all cried.
I can never go back and experience Outer Wilds like I did the first time...... but watching playthroughs like this one are about as close as one can get. This is the only game I've played, so far, to leave me with a profound sense of melancholy at the end. An excellent end to a thoroughly enjoyable playthrough, thanks for sharing with us. :) also, I remember being confused when the DLC was announced, thinking: "I don't see a way to add to or improve on this story." I was so, so wrong :D
I never played the DLC, I think I'll just enjoy watching. Seems most are in agreement that it's great. "I don't see a way to add to or improve on this story." sums up my thoughts lol. Looking forward to it!
This was great to watch 😄 I'm very impressed you figured out the angler fish, I think I had to look that bit up. But then watching you struggle with putting in the coordinates for the better part of a cycle 🤣Really shows how we're all different and have different struggles. And yes I cried at the end, and I cried watching you reach the end as well. The ending of this game is unlike anything in any game I've ever played and even years later it still makes me emotional. Like many others, I wish I could forget this game so I could experience it all again.
That pillar is the final boss of this game! It's tough to figure out what all the things in the Vessel do when it's the first time you're seeing them powered on, under time pressure. Well done for finishing the game! You have some excellent takes on the message of it, I definitely connected it to my thoughts about death too. I found it so comforting to think that one day there would be people hanging out around a campfire again. Thanks for a really engaging playthrough! :)
You did great Maisy! Forgetting things and experimenting and figuring it out is all part of the experience. By the end, you make something beautiful. I can't wait to see the DLC! (Just know the puzzles are a little harder).
1:28:00 Lol, your habit of doing things out of order or backwards certainly did you no favors here as there's only one order and it definitely doesn't work backwards, hahahah.
Beautiful take on the ending. I have automatic respect for let’s play creators that invest in this game. Glad you’re on YT. Algorithm gets it right sometimes
I yelled so many times to the screen during watching of your playthrough regarding your decisions, and tunnel-vision, and etc, but in the end I'm cried along the whole ending scene with you, and even until the end of your brilliant speech after it. Thank you, Maisy, thank you very much for being you, you are beautiful! 💖 Can't wait for your Echoes of the Eye playtrough! 🤩
Amazing playthrough, Maisy! This has been such a joy to tune in to every week. Excited to see you play through Echoes of the Eye once you finally get to it.
Genuinely, this game has made me not fear death as much and that is such a great achievement for any piece of art to do. I can’t even describe why, but it is true, that life wouldn’t really matter all that much if there wasn’t some sort of end to it, and that even though we may die, our ideals, our actions, the very essence of our being will be carried on into a new future that will then impact many more. We may not get to see it, but to know it, to know that we matter brings some catharsis when it comes to the scary unknown of what death brings. I am happy to have experienced this game, and happy for everyone who gets to experience. It’s just one of those games that get better the more time you’ve spent away from it as you look back on your one of a kind playthrough of the game.
Thank you for your Playthrough. Followed it silently from the start. At first i was a bit annoyed by your ship-flying skills but it was worth it to keep watching. If you recovered make sure to play the dlc (lot less flying there), its brilliant and expanses the story in a meaningful way without disturbing the original one. ::)
Thank YOU for bearing with me! I know I can be a pain in the butt and very stubborn about how I do things lol. I appreciate you a whole lot for supporting ::)
Congratulations on creating something wonderful. The end comes, no matter how much we might want to avoid it, and it's important to remember that every end brings with it a new beginning. Somehow. Somewhere. And if you're looking for a short palette-cleanser game, might I suggest The Last Campfire (no relation, LOL).
This is definitely one of the best games made in recent history. I really hope that other developers expand upon this type of game and make something even better, not just copy the style.
*22min after getting into the eye* “Am I in the eye?” 😂 It’s really interesting to see how everyone has a different experience playing this game. A couple of people crack it instantaneously, others take their time. That’s the beauty of Outer Wilds - there’s no correct time (it might not even exist there)
This was such a great series!!!! And you did such a good job! I can't wait to see what comes next! Edit: For game suggestions, if you're looking for a game that uses a similar kind of piecing together the pieces, then you might enjoy Chants of Sennaar. And if you want another great story with heart and vibes then I cannot recommend Citizen Sleeper enough! Both Citizen Sleeper and Chants of Sennaar were games that I skipped out on for quite a while because they didn't look like they'd be my thing but I'm so glad that I eventually gave them each a shot. They've both left a lasting impact on what I now know a video game can be, just like Outer Wilds did.
I'm a teacher and this part reminded me of the kids who think they're bad at math - struggle and struggle and struggle and then, just about the time you finally get it, you lose confidence and give up. ::(
@@plantagominor722 haha exactly. Totally can understand how she feels here but it was so frustrating to watch. Now she knows though, it was probably hilarious watching it back.
Thanks for the playthrough! It was great! One point of clarification, Annapurna is a publisher not a developer. Stray and Outer Wilds were not made by the same people. Both great games though.
Still the best game ever made. Outer Wilds is so special. i'm always so happy to see someone experience it. i can't see this ending without crying and think about life itself.
First of all I have to say I've loved this playthrough, its been something I've looked forward to watching every week. I played this game myself back in december for the first time and it broke me, but in a good way. Andrew Prahlow (the composes of the ost) made a tribute song to the game called "Outer Wilds - Reprise" which had this amazing comment (before comments were turned off on the video: (Noah Zuckman) "I hope you may find bravery like Feldspar, bravery to break new ground and do what others won't. I hope you may find peace like Esker; peace to be with yourself, because sometimes you're all you really have. I hope you may find curiosity like Chert; curiosity to learn about the universe, even if it means discovering uncomfortable truths. I hope you may find passion like Riebeck; passion that lets you overcome even your greatest of fears. I hope you may find time to stop and smell the pine trees like Gabbro; time to take everything in, and simply be. Most of all, I hope you may seek out and understand whatever it is you might be searching for in the universe like the Nomai The universe can feel very scary, hopeless, and overwhelming at times - we're always dealing with something that feels like the end of everything. But it also comes with an infinite promise of beauty and wonder, and I hope that promise can help you overcome whatever challenges you may face. I look forward to seeing you at the end of the universe. Don't be a stranger when you see me."
That song honestly gets me tearing up. I see it as the song that plays when you find out how to end the cycle, but you do one last cycle talking to everyone, seeing every single thing before eventually going into the unknown. For me it’s the song that represents the player saying “Goodbye” to Outer Wilds.
Yep, you need to play the DLC as well. Loved the playthrough and no, you're not the only one to cry. I personally was just in silent shock when I played it myself because I was trying to process everything of what just happened... x.x I hadn't played a game with such an impact on me emotionally before... Thank you devs thank you everyone involved in this game in any way to make it a reality. Whenever someone asks me my favorite game it is 100% this.
Also, I think the only real upset would be if you didn't solve the quantum moon, then you wouldn't have had Solanum with you when you went to the Eye. So you hit the big important parts of the game.. the museum at the end is flavor text and it is fun to read and explains the ending a bit more, but it's not of utmost importance.
The game is great, because it invokes something different in every player.- And it touches on so much without saying much at all. For me, it touched on the fear of what comes "after" (as you mentioned. Fear of death is a struggle I've had since my teens, since learning I wasn't invincible). . And standing there in those final moments. . . While it got me kind of bleak.... It gave me peace (if only for a moment). We got to go on a amazing journey that poked at our curiosity and fears at every corner. To then meet up with the "friends" we had searched for, and joined in a song. While scary, we got to see the final moments of the universe and the birth of the next one. So don't apologize for showing your emotions. The game was made for us to feel whatever we felt. As for a game suggestion... OBSERVATION - While not similar at all. It still has some similar "feelings" of -What happened here, and what will happen next?- Scifi - space- settings. (also fairly cinematic, so would lend itself well for a playthrough series. Anyways, thanks for the vids. Have a lovely day.
There's no such thing as a "perfect playthrough," - even tho I may have my own, "ideal playthrough" to watch. You may not have hit all of the things that I wanted you to notice, for whatever reason, but I'm glad you enjoyed the experience regardless. :)
(I feel like the act of streaming makes some ppl over or underthink things - which is understandable) lol i.e. keeping your static sounding signal receiver out for wayyyy longer than necessary
And when the inhabitants of this brave new universe find this strange piece of metal we called Scout flying through space, they will make one very important and confusing observation. It is older than the universe itself.
You were born near the end of everything, the Heat Death of the Universe is near. The Universe is ending like it or not... only the hope of a random quantum fluctuation in the endless nothingness at the end of everything, when nothing will ever happen again and time itself has no meaning. The Eye of the Universe is this random quantum fluctuation, and while we all will die, our immortality is what we pass on after us.
je ne parle pas anglais, sache que j adoré te suivre durant ce jeu magnifique qui m a fait autant pleurer que les ori. Je suis pressée de te voir faire le DLC qui sublime si bien cet oeuvre. Tu l aimeras je n en doute pas !
the amount of things you lucked into due to lack of understanding in this play through is crazy lol. love the "they are blind right? then why are they coming for me?! *blasts jet engines in their ears*" its funny how many people struggle with that one. my favorite from others is "they are blind right? so all i gotta do is turn off my headlights!" lol
Definitely play the DLC! I played it right away, i think you'll get a lot out of it then. Another recommendation is Return of the Obra Dinn, it's another puzzle game that while not the same as OW I think gave a similar sense of "what the hell is going on here"
If you've never played it before, I would recommend playing What Remains of Edith. It's a short game, only 2-3 hours, and tells an intriguing, emotional story. Based on your comments at the end of Outer Wilds, I think it would really resonate with you.
"I wonder if anyone else cried this hard"
EVERYONE else cried this hard.
even harder in the expansion XD
I cry this hard every time I watch someone else go through it again, too. It's just a perfect ending, and watching others experience it is so, so good every time.
“I learned a lot, by the end of everything. The past is past, now, but that's… you know, that's okay! It's never really gone completely. The future is always built on the past, even if we won't get to see it.”
-Riebeck
I see there are comments pointing out the things you missed. I get where they’re coming from but at the end of the day this game isn’t about checkpoints or marking things off a list… it’s about the experience! And I think you had your own, fun, emotional experience and that’s the point. Besides, it’s really tough to see EVERYTHING in this game without hints.
Thank you so very much for saying this. I feel bad for missing some key points at the end, but I am glad I can revisit in the DLC! I appreciate you for taking the time to let me know its okay :)
@@heyitsmaisy_it’s my favorite game of all time, and yet I missed several things too. So no stress!☺️
@@heyitsmaisy_No reason to feel bad. Nobody sees everything in a single playthrough.
But it's interesting to learn all the details about this game.
So for comments talking about the parts you didn't see, just think of them as cool details that people want to share with you. That's all.
@@heyitsmaisy_
Yeah, I remember another let's play where the person didn't realize the text was different at the end. They also went back after finishing the DLC and read it, so it's all good.
This is the take. The beautiful thing about Outer Wilds is that everyone has their own different kind of journey with it. Thanks for showing us yours Maggie!
This game legitimately changed my outlook on life. This will always be my favourite video game of all time.
If not for Nier Automata I would feel the same way. But I had similar feelings about that game.
Few things I need to give some props on:
- Figuring out how to get past the anglerfish yourself.
Have you seen Jason Thor Hall (Pirate Software)'s play through. It was quite exciting
I'm not even mad about the missed Vessel room or the Eye museum texts now haha
1:22:00 After seeing tens of Outer Wilds playthroughs, you're one of the very few players perceptive enough to see that the game displays the Eye coordinates on the screen (most others try to memorize them or take a picture/screenshot of the ship log entry). Then again, you're certainly the one that had the most trouble inputting it, so I guess it evens out 🤣
2:18:40 I'll absolutely be watching your DLC run, and I hope it starts next Friday but I don't mind waiting if not.
Even though all of us experience it differently, we all cry like babies in the end :’)
I also have an immense fear of death, so it was beautiful to hear how this game affected you in that regard, like it affected me.
I completely missed the Quantum Moon my first playthrough, so you can imagine how much I missed 🥲
Looking forward to it!
@@heyitsmaisy_ Yes, it's a must to do the full ending again after the DLC. Reminders:
1) You didn't explore everything inside the vessel.
@@heyitsmaisy_ The Witness. You'll be in the right frame of mind for it coming off the back of Outer Wilds.
"The universe is, and we are"

::)
I just want you to know two things:
1) Love your playthrough!
2) Your playthrough has caused me physical injury. At 9:53, "Retrieve my scout" caused me to facepalm hard enough that it stings a little bit. ;-p
Yyyea i was screaming at 9:53.
i think i saw like 12 different outer wilds gameplay (irl and here on yt!) and it gets me EVERYTIME.
When you're done with the dlc you should do the ending again, with less confusion/stress lol
I really enjoyed this playthrough!
And I will enjoy your screams of -fear- joy as you play the dlc!
"Did I do it in the wrong order? No, it's the game that's wrong."
You wonder who also cried that hard? Well, that'll be EVERYONE of us :P
1:54:00 ah the old nemesis "looking up" 😂
Got knocked out by hurricane Helene for a week so a couple days late, but excited to now be able to witness this grand finale! Your Outer Wilds playthrough has so far been one of the most fun I've watched! Now I am ready to witness the end of your journey. Thank you for sharing this adventure with us.
Thanks for sharing your playthrough. And pretty much everyone cried or had some existential experience during the end of this game. Lol.
"Even if they didn't know it the Nomia left you a gift. " Beautiful!
I also cried watching you play the ending.
Thank you for letting me experience this story ‘for the first time’ again through your eyes
The universe is, and we are.
This has been such an enjoyable journey, and I'm sobbing right there with you, Maggie 💚 Thank you for sharing this story with us
Congrats maisy!
OMG you didn't even look outside when you travelled with the Vessel to see the Eye of the Universe. 😭
You HAVE to play the DLC now! It’s just as good and the ending makes it even more amazing
Honestly, the only other game to really pull at me emotionally while simultaneously giving me crippling existential dread is in the same way as Outer Wilds is... the Echoes of the Eye DLC...
But since you asked for suggestions:
- The Long Dark (existential dread, cozy campfires)
- Antichamber (puzzles, confusing geometry, existential dread)
- Prey (2017) (existential dread in SPACE!)
- Chants of Senaar (puzzles)
- Subnautica (deep oceans on a water planet)
- Tunic (puzzles)
I just made a comment using the word existential (and I know you added dread), but existential isn't really a negative word. I looked it up specifically because it's usually qualified with dread. I meant it positively. I know you didn't :p
Quote from reddit: "Existentialism, in contrast, is quite a useful way to live one's life, and for me it has quite a positive connotation. Existential looks at the human condition as it is: We exist, apparently through natural and explainable means - and what are we then to do? Life is brief and uncertain, and existentialism suggests that at least part of the work each of us needs to do is to figure out what we're going to do with the time we have. What meaning are we going to create for our own existence?"
Thought it tied in well with Maisy's last comments.
1:21:56 I was very close to jump out the window 😅
Yah, i know that everyone makes up weird theories as they go through and also miss some things that seem obvious later (myself included)... but this is the first time I've ever seen anyone not just enter the coordinates left to right... as they are displayed on screen. It's coordinates after all. that aside, all and all, a great playthrough though. well done
I did. My legs are broken.
It was hurting. Then she made the connection "Oh there's three of them" and I was celebrating. Very prematurely, it turns out...
Oh it got even worse. When she said "Ok we'll do it left to right" and I could hear the supernova in the background. Window and legs were in danger for sure.
Same, It's just hard to watch and don't brake anything in my room at the same time
It just makes sense that after reading everything bottom to top the whole playthrough that we now also read right to left.
Aww, you missed reading all the signs in the museum. If you do the endgame again (after the DLC) you should definitely check those out.
also, I remember being confused when the DLC was announced, thinking: "I don't see a way to add to or improve on this story." I was so, so wrong :D
I never played the DLC, I think I'll just enjoy watching.
Seems most are in agreement that it's great. "I don't see a way to add to or improve on this story." sums up my thoughts lol. Looking forward to it!
This was great to watch 😄
I'm very impressed you figured out the angler fish, I think I had to look that bit up.
I loved your playthrough. Greetings from Argentina!
God, I love how disorienting and unnerving and emotional the last sequence of this game is. Even among the confusion everything just HITS
1:28:00 Lol, your habit of doing things out of order or backwards certainly did you no favors here as there's only one order and it definitely doesn't work backwards, hahahah.
I was like WHY DOES SHE KEEP PUTTING THEM IN BACKWARD!! 😂
Can't wait for your Echoes of the Eye playtrough! 🤩
Amazing playthrough, Maisy! This has been such a joy to tune in to every week.
Excited to see you play through Echoes of the Eye once you finally get to it.
Definitely subbed, always nice to see another OW play through pop up, congrats!!!
what a fun ride!! cracking playthrough, truly enjoyed the run. excited to see what you do next!
59:00 the scout fell into the sun and got rid of your picture 😂
It hurts so good.
The yearning for something one cannot have again
Thank you for your Playthrough. Followed it silently from the start. At first i was a bit annoyed by your ship-flying skills but it was worth it to keep watching. If you recovered make sure to play the dlc (lot less flying there), its brilliant and expanses the story in a meaningful way without disturbing the original one. ::)
Thank YOU for bearing with me! I know I can be a pain in the butt and very stubborn about how I do things lol. I appreciate you a whole lot for supporting ::)
This was a lovely playthrough. No game has ever and will never make me cry like I did. Looking forward to the DLC, whenever you're ready 😊
Thank you for inviting us to accompany you on this journey.
Thank you again so much for sharing ❤
Truly an amazing experience going through this with you. Sorry for the deluge of comments across your videos!
That was quite the enjoyable ride!
I'm excited for the DLC!
Take some time to breathe if you need to though!
Please please please play the DLC. I’m not sure what to do now that this series is over.
*22min after getting into the eye*
“Am I in the eye?” 😂
It’s really interesting to see how everyone has a different experience playing this game. A couple of people crack it instantaneously, others take their time. That’s the beauty of Outer Wilds - there’s no correct time (it might not even exist there)
Don’t cry because it ended, Smile because it happened.
The game that makes you accept mortality, and reminds you that something of you will live on after you're gone.
I swear to God at 1:30:00 I was screaming ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
She *had it* and just... gave up. 😭
I know. I was like 'She's going to beat the supernova!!' Then, she just stopped.
Cant wait for the DLC playthough!😅
Thanks for the playthrough! It was great! One point of clarification, Annapurna is a publisher not a developer. Stray and Outer Wilds were not made by the same people. Both great games though.
But they publish some amazing games
@@TheOnlyOne516 hopefully they will continue to, but my confidence has been shooketh after the whole publishing team quit...
Andrew Prahlow (the composes of the ost) made a tribute song to the game called "Outer Wilds - Reprise" which had this amazing comment (before comments were turned off on the video:
(Noah Zuckman)
"I hope you may find bravery like Feldspar, bravery to break new ground and do what others won't.
Most of all, I hope you may seek out and understand whatever it is you might be searching for in the universe like the Nomai
The universe can feel very scary, hopeless, and overwhelming at times - we're always dealing with something that feels like the end of everything. But it also comes with an infinite promise of beauty and wonder, and I hope that promise can help you overcome whatever challenges you may face.
I look forward to seeing you at the end of the universe. Don't be a stranger when you see me."
Also, you should definitely play the dlc
That song honestly gets me tearing up. I see it as the song that plays when you find out how to end the cycle, but you do one last cycle talking to everyone, seeing every single thing before eventually going into the unknown. For me it’s the song that represents the player saying “Goodbye” to Outer Wilds.
Yep, you need to play the DLC as well. Loved the playthrough and no, you're not the only one to cry. I personally was just in silent shock when I played it myself because I was trying to process everything of what just happened... x.x I hadn't played a game with such an impact on me emotionally before...
Thank you devs
thank you everyone involved in this game in any way to make it a reality.
The game is great, because it invokes something different in every player.-
And it touches on so much without saying much at all.
I would definitely recommend Disco Elysium. It's an amazin, narrative focused game about the human condition with a great detective story.
This was an awesome playthrough! My vote would be DLC next. If you need a palate cleanser, Return of the Obra Dinn is a pretty great puzzle game.
And when the inhabitants of this brave new universe find this strange piece of metal we called Scout flying through space, they will make one very important and confusing observation.
It is older than the universe itself.
Oh my god, what if wherever it lands becomes the site of the new Eye of the Universe?
You were born near the end of everything, the Heat Death of the Universe is near. The Universe is ending like it or not... only the hope of a random quantum fluctuation in the endless nothingness at the end of everything, when nothing will ever happen again and time itself has no meaning. The Eye of the Universe is this random quantum fluctuation, and while we all will die, our immortality is what we pass on after us.
It's okay.. we all cried that hard ::)
Play the dlc. We need more you flying into the sun.
je ne parle pas anglais, sache que j adoré te suivre durant ce jeu magnifique qui m a fait autant pleurer que les ori. Je suis pressée de te voir faire le DLC qui sublime si bien cet oeuvre. Tu l aimeras je n en doute pas !
DLC TIME!!!! Ready for the tears to double?
Thank you for the journey!
Oh no, you missed all the reading in the museum. Some key story points were lost.
I missed it too the first time.
the amount of things you lucked into due to lack of understanding in this play through is crazy lol. love the "they are blind right? then why are they coming for me?! *blasts jet engines in their ears*" its funny how many people struggle with that one. my favorite from others is "they are blind right? so all i gotta do is turn off my headlights!" lol
The “they’re blind? So I gotta turn off my lights” is the funniest thing
Heh, I think I've seen that one. Another one, albeit possibly as a joke, was "maybe we're only supposed to land on the sun station at night?" 🤣
1:42:53 facepalm lol
Welcome to the club, now you can join us in not being able to stop thinking about this game.
Thanks, will look into it! ::)
How do you feel rewatching 1:22:00 😅 Thank you so much for sharing your emotions with us ::)
told ya' i'd be here cryin' witchu lmao
