Neighbors, not being listened to by the oil companies, complain in the media or take protest measures such as cutting off access to the well. It is only then that the oil companies offer “solutions”, such as giving them electrical appliances, offering them materials for the house, moving them to a hotel while they are drilling or paying them for their silence. In 2015 in the Calle Ciega 10 neighborhood, after a major accident, YPF offered to pay the residents, in a confidentiality contract for their silence, which includes a clause that forces them to defend the company in case someone comes to claim. A rural neighbor defines the situation: "here we just talk about money, money and pollution, because there is nothing else."
