I still get emotional when Fjord starts thanking Vandran for being his role model. Fjord's arc was many things, but my favorite part was always how he struggled with insecurity and masculinity. I think someone summed it best when they said that Fjord started out as an 'overly serious boy' and gradually evolved into a 'calm and dependable man'. "You showed me kindness, and love and honor. And it meant the world to me".
The thing that I loved most about this was that it was a HAPPY ENDING. Everyone got a positive closure to their stories. Justice for Beau and Caleb, more adventure for Jester and Fjord on the high seas, Veth and Caduceus with their families safe and happy, Yasha delivered her flowers, and the purple tiefling is free from the tyranny of Lucien. Probably couldn't have been better. And they deserved it.
The one I feel the worst about is Yasha, honestly. I feel like every member of the Nine got to explore their past well and bring closure to it, *except* Yasha and possibly Molly/Kingsley. In Kingsley's case, he seems more than fine with it and just willing to experience life. Which is awesome; probably the best mindset to have in his position. With Yasha, while she's also got a good life ahead of her, it's not quite that simple. She fully remembers her past like everyone but Tealeaf, yet she's the only one who's had to deal with tragedy and guilt *and* couldn't quite make justice, or find some form of redemption, revenge or justice. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great story; I'd say it's one of the best endings because of all that. Yasha goes through a path many of us do in life, where you have to learn to leave the past in the past yourself, and you have to learn to forgive yourself. She doesn't get to channel her hate, her sadness, or to find some sort of catharsis, from outside events. She doesn't get to see her abuser brought low, exposed and humbled as Caleb puts very well, or to help her sibling grow up in a healthier environment like Beau. She has to find peace all within herself. All that tragedy is done, dead and gone. She can only heed the advice of her friends and her God. It's goddamn beautiful, but I wouldn't call it happy. It's bittersweet. I'd love to see a one shot or two where they explore Yasha and Beau's endings more... though that might be tough to adapt to an action packed D&D format.
This campaign had a happy ending, meanwhile their final fight was something that very few if no people will ever know about. It was a purely personal final encounter with Molly. This is compared to the first campaign, which, while containing some happy endings, saw the demise of Vax, a great personal loss to VM. While they achieved a great victory against Vecna, and became widely known heroes, they lost so much in doing so. The fact that they perfectly counter one another is quite amazing.
@@GeeGe. But that’s just it. Yasha did get closure. She found Zuala’s grave and was able to say goodbye properly. She also let go of wanting revenge or justice for Zuala’s death. She was just *tired* of all the fighting and all the loss she had to suffer. Just being able to walk off into the sunset with the second love of her life, finally able to hang up her sword for good… that IS her happy ending. She never wanted to be a weapon. She just wanted a place to belong, a place to call home. And she found it. She also did not fully remember her past, as part of it is still locked away. And she’s fine with that, content to just leave it there. They even discussed it before setting out into Xhorhas again. And besides, I wouldn’t exactly call it their “endings”. Because their life together is only just starting. We only just saw the end of the first chapter in an ongoing story, all that’s needed for them is to turn the page.
@@AdamEspersona Well, I agree that she's in a great place, specially given her previous life. But I still disagree that she got closure. It's the ending of a RPG campaign, which tends to wrap up the party members' stories. Nothing wrong with calling it an ending, that's literally what it is. Doesn't mean Yasha's life is over or anything, in fact I recognize that in my previous comment and I mention I'm hopeful we'll further explore Yasha's (and Beau's) backgrounds, since they didn't quite get closure. They're in a great place, yeah. They got closure? No. They managed to run away from their admittedly bad pasts, but neither of them said whether they're fine just leaving it completely behind or if they want to explore it further. Beau's past isn't that mysterious but she still probably wants to get a hand on her family in order to save her little bro, if nothing else. And Yasha killed a ton of people and just ran away. If she wants to leave it at that, that's understandable and up to her, but her last scene visiting the grave did not at all leave that impression. TL;DR Yeah, they're both in a much, much better place. I'm still sad that they didn't quite get to explore their pasts and find closure like the rest of the M9.
@@marisharaygun this very much like HemboHero taking 24 hours of Rooster Teeth Extra Life streams and turning them into 2-3 hr videos depending on the shenanigans everyone gets up to.
I think what gets me the most about Yasha's conversation with Zuala is the way she says "...and I love you very much". It's still present tense, just like how, early in the campaign, Yasha talks about marriage being for life in the Dolorav, and how Zuala will always be hers. I love that she has no anxiety about saying it in front of Beau. They know they love each other and trust one another enough that Beau doesn't feel uncomfortable hearing that, and Yasha doesn't feel uncomfortable saying it. Ashley really puts SO much thought into her RP.
I missed the line about veth saying I'd like to make a wish... Because Sam couldn't end up making that wish at the end of last campaign to save Liam... So he's making it now to save Liam in this campaign ❤️😭😭😭😭
There were so many great moments in this episode for everyone. Caleb got solidified as my favorite character now, but I love all the character progression RP that Sam/Veth did. From looking at the pond reflection to mirror her first awakening as a goblin; skinny dipping to show her start in overcoming her trauma, and giving the ring of waterwalking to cement that fact; giving a kiss to Yussa's assistant to show her progressed opinion on goblinkind, and finally telling Caleb that she is now convinced to be "brave".
Honestly listening to Caleb reveal his time travel plan of what he would do to save his parents was mind blowing. In the moment I was Imagining him actually doing it, and it was like watching the ending of a movie that just leaves your mind blown.
Caleb added soooo much to the campaign, like, their last fight was literally with someone from his background, all he did from a mechanic and role-playing perspective was simply awesome and outstanding!
Incredibly appropriate as a mollymawk is a kind of albatross, a seabird said to be good luck for a ship. The killing of an albatross will bring a curse upon the killer.
I just watched the talks machina ages ago, where Liam openly said that if not for the plan Caleb has, he might as well "off himself". And then here I am, listening to the plan that kept a broken mind alive, letters in a book, worn on a broken heart. Kept secret for three years from his closest friends in both lives. And he wishes his past goodbye and let's go of the plan.. And it's so painful, so raw. And yet so blissful and full of redemption, I cannot shake the feeling that in that moment, Caleb touched Liam, and helped him let go. Absolutely beautifull
I remember that. I really feel Caleb has the deepest, most emotional ending of the nein. When he teleported the book into the ground between his parent it ENDED ME
@@carlsmagicbicep9736 I started BAWLING when he said “book of letters.” I had been wondering since the first time the other book was mentioned what was in it. I had a theory that it was a record of his adventures, but I thought it would be so he didn’t forget again. This reveal made me cry the UGLIEST tears at 1 am and that scene really solidified Caleb as my favorite of the Nein. Thank you Liam for a beautiful ending to Caleb’s story, tragic as it may have been.
Can anyone point me to the moment in which a NPC reached for his spell book and he said "take this one instead" because they were reaching for the book with the letters? Was it Essek? Yussa?
You know... at first I always felt an odd vibe in the later episodes, Jester didn't seem to be her usual bubbly self around Fjord. Foolish me thought "does she actually still like him or is she forcing herself to?" It wasn't until after the finale that it hit me... SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO PRETEND AROUND HIM! Jester uses that hyper-happiness as a mask a lot of the time. She IS sweet and chaotic and bubbly but around Fjord she doesn't feel like she has to put up that front so he doesn't worry. She's more herself around him than anyone else and it allows her to relax and I think that is so beautiful! (gdi Laura Bailey you got us again)
"Look dad, I won't sink to the fucking bottom!" And "I need a lot of water... a lot of it, I need to not fucking sink!" Now both live rent free in my head forever.
I don’t remember where but I was watching highlights videos like this a while back and there’s one where Nott/Veth (don’t remember which) says something along the lines of “I’m actually an automaton!!!”
watching through this again, the moment with Caleb, Yasha, beau, and Astrid gathered around Trent on the ground reminds me so much of the "you have been weighed, you have been measured, and have been found wanting" moment from the end of A knight's tale with Adhemar on the ground
Caleb's epilogue is...shattering, to say the least. Only this time, it's not that Caleb lost anything, unlike Vax. Caleb made the choices, no matter how heart-wrenching they were. And in his own way, made the world a better place, not because of his past, but in spite of it.
I remember when I first heard Matt do that scream of rage and frustration from Astrid, when she decided not to kill Trent. I immediately burst into tears, bc as someone who has been systematically abused, with no justice granted, I felt every inch of that rage and pain. And sadly, I personally never will get real justice for what happened to me- but at least there are people out there that believe in advocating for survivors of crimes that often do not leave physical marks. I just remember having to pause the vid and crying almost hysterically. It was too real in the best way.
This is SO well condensed. SPOILERS My favorite part of this episode is the smile that crosses Sam's face when Caleb Disintegrates everything towards the end. It didn't make it into this compilation, so go check it out, it is WELL worth it.
This episode had my emotions so screwed up but the music when Matt says the story comes to a close ... was the music used when Vax says goodbye so that made me 2x as heartbroken. 🥺

they're all incredible and in leagues of their own in their own ways, but the way liam embodies the pain of his characters is just on another level. I was watching C1 clips and the thing with the death knights when he and vex accidentally killed cassandra and kaylie, i have never seen someone look so deeply tortured in life let alone in fiction, and I saw it again here. all i have to say is jesus christ, what a talent
The subtle looks between Fjord and Jester with no words, on top of the water tower, were so telling of the love they have for each other. I love those two so much. All the couples in this campaign are amazing. Excellent job!
When nott makes a wish, to save Caleb from himself it's like a full circle from campaign one when *SPOILERS* Vax dies and cannot be saved because scanlan used his wish to defeat vekna stop his teleport and save the world. Him making that wish after making a character that is basically a mother to Caleb is so wholesome

I don't know why one of these highlight videos popped up in my recommended several months ago.. I didn't know much of anything about DnD, still don't, but I've watched every single one of these for this campaign! So, I suppose I have you to thank for making these videos and getting me into something new. Thank you.
Oh God. I was just enjoying the review. And suddenly when Matt laid down the judgment on Zeenoth... Watching Marisha... my head exploded with everything that Beau went through with her family and herself and her journey. Then everything Marisha told on Between the sheets... What she went through just crashed into my heart. All this happened in less then a second. After that second I was just crying and screaming with anger and hatred and relief. I can't believe how these people, these impossibly kind people and their beautiful souls can make me feel. In the last few years I was struggling to feel emotions on a deep level. The only times stories and the feelings that come with them reached me was when these stories were told by them. They make me laugh wholeheartedly, they are the only ones who can make me truly cry. And their stories are the only ones that inspire me to not give up and see my path to its destination. Thank you, for showing me bravery and heroism and family, Vox Machina. Thank you, for showing me how to surpass yourself, Mighty Nein. Thank you, for saving the happiness in my life, Critical Role. Now... Let me hear your stories, ...Bells Hells.
Gotta say, there is something about sincere improv that it so violently powerful. I feel like even if you dont know their story, watching their ending affects your being.
Even with some resolution... It's bittersweet tears, wholesale emotion, love and pain and growth. It's hard imagining the Mighty Nein, condensing their travails and woes, into a concise animated storyline. I don't envy anyone who has to adapt any of this. I wept through the last episode, I wept through this one. Bless Critical Role, it's actors, all the effort expended by everyone on staff, to make this story happen. I don't think anyone this affected will ever be quite the same.
I started to tear up when Caleb released Frumpkin, and a moment later my own cat wandered over and curled up on the couch next to me. I think I know how Caleb feels now, we truly don't deserve cats, but we do need them sometimes.

The fact that you managed to condense 7 hours into this is nothing short of a miracle.
tell me about it! lmao
@@marisharaygun yo, I love you homie. Hope you're well.
@@marisharaygun this very much like HemboHero taking 24 hours of Rooster Teeth Extra Life streams and turning them into 2-3 hr videos depending on the shenanigans everyone gets up to.
this was a 7 hour episode? holy fuck
Was this seriously 7 hours long? What the Fuck
“You’ve convinced me I’m brave, but you are mighty” is just… *chefs kiss*
Bald Matt is so powerful it immediately broke immersion, Ashley’s tone of voice shifted IMMEDIATELY and everything just went downhill
Sam beat Yasha's accent clean out of her with the sheer force of the psychic damage he dealt...
16:43
Liam: "There was a battle, the Assembly showed up..."
Matt: Funny you should mention that
oh my god how have I not caught that until now
The “but it’s so much more beautiful in all the shades of colors” part gets me every.fucking.time.
Such a good line
I think the only thing about molly that's gone, is the lucien that was in him. Now he's pure tealeaf.
Caddy "torturing" Trent with Command is one of my fav moments in the entire 2nd campaign.
When Taleisin renamed the ship "The Mollymauk," I got full body goosebumps!
Which one was that?
Yussa?
@@franciscoborjaescobarsuare5802 i dont know the exact episode, but i believe it was professor wako in rhosona when they first met her
What always kills me is how Matt reacts every time Liam says something heartbreaking
liam making a turtle noise and travis looking at the sky frantically, as if one is going to fall and hit him in the head
You know... at first I always felt an odd vibe in the later episodes, Jester didn't seem to be her usual bubbly self around Fjord.
26:30 "Nah she rides bareback real solid." I love this so much.
"Look dad, I won't sink to the fucking bottom!"
And
"I need a lot of water... a lot of it, I need to not fucking sink!" Now both live rent free in my head forever.
Spoiler for C3
46:30 "I'll take your halfling luck" "I don't needed it"
Now Liam is playing a halfling!!!😂😭
I don’t remember where but I was watching highlights videos like this a while back and there’s one where Nott/Veth (don’t remember which) says something along the lines of “I’m actually an automaton!!!”
The prophecy is fulfilled.
watching through this again, the moment with Caleb, Yasha, beau, and Astrid gathered around Trent on the ground reminds me so much of the "you have been weighed, you have been measured, and have been found wanting" moment from the end of A knight's tale with Adhemar on the ground
I'M FINE AND GOOD UNTIL MATT STARTS CRYING TOO. DAMN IT.
Through everything, I held it together watching all 7 hours of the live. But the moment that Matt's voice broke, my willpower broke just as hard
09:12 -- I love that Tallesin essentially turned Kingsley into the Doctor learning about his new regeneration in the final episode. Allons-y!
Yup! Pretty much the exact opposite though. Instead of the same mind in a new body, it’s a new mind inside of the same body!
This is SO well condensed.
SPOILERS
My favorite part of this episode is the smile that crosses Sam's face when Caleb Disintegrates everything towards the end. It didn't make it into this compilation, so go check it out, it is WELL worth it.
This episode had my emotions so screwed up but the music when Matt says the story comes to a close ... was the music used when Vax says goodbye so that made me 2x as heartbroken. 🥺
Do you happen to know the name of the music?
Same. I was crying here and there but it was Matt. Matt at the end with that music and what he said that finally broke me to ugly cry 😢
I cannot watch vax's goodbye without sobbing. Liam does such an amazing job!

Have you ever seen them both in the same room?
Essek's "What have you done" around 38:40 I feel like is so much Matt asking that very question
they're all incredible and in leagues of their own in their own ways, but the way liam embodies the pain of his characters is just on another level. I was watching C1 clips and the thing with the death knights when he and vex accidentally killed cassandra and kaylie, i have never seen someone look so deeply tortured in life let alone in fiction, and I saw it again here. all i have to say is jesus christ, what a talent
"Your past doesnt scare me. It only makes you beautiful."
Yup this is the part i sob. Apart from the many others lol

"You counterspell his Counterspell" After the fourth time counterspell is used lol
God Matt went full fucking Mcree with Vandran's voice
“There’s still a lot of Xhor-Ass I’d like to see.”
I hate myself for that…..
The subtle looks between Fjord and Jester with no words, on top of the water tower, were so telling of the love they have for each other. I love those two so much. All the couples in this campaign are amazing. Excellent job!
Seeing Matt nearly cry made me tear up too much, and God damn she did it, made Travis fall in love in game.
I love how Kingsley blindly becomes Jack Sparrow
Processing and chopping up 7+ hours of stream is honestly amazing. Bravo.
When nott makes a wish, to save Caleb from himself it's like a full circle from campaign one when *SPOILERS*
Vax dies and cannot be saved because scanlan used his wish to defeat vekna stop his teleport and save the world. Him making that wish after making a character that is basically a mother to Caleb is so wholesome
Trent’s wicked smile makes so much sense in light of C3 and Ludinus’ Ruidus plot. Matt truly does play the long game.
We know this. Just look how long it took to find Keyleth's mom!
Frumpkin leaving broke me on that thursday night. Damn you Liam and Matt for being so fucking awesome!
It's the end of a book, but there is still the sequel
Before I watch, I'd just like to thank you for these edits. They've been the weekly post-crit role thing I've looked forward to the most since the first one you posted. They must be so time consuming to edit and they're always *chef kiss*. Thank you. ❤️
When a happy ending actually works. That was one hell of a fun campaign!
Marisha's look at 1:23:23 just screams proudness and love for what Matt accomplished with this story.... she even gives him a nod and that's the thing that broke him...

I don't know why one of these highlight videos popped up in my recommended several months ago.. I didn't know much of anything about DnD, still don't, but I've watched every single one of these for this campaign!
I was always somewhat interested in DnD, but never had enough friends who played it to ever give it a try myself. But now, I'm almost addicted to a game that *I've* never played!
So, I suppose I have you to thank for making these videos and getting me into something new. Thank you.
that’s awesome!!! i’m glad i could help introduce you to all of this in one way or another :)
Critical Roles influence on people starting to play Dnd has been enormous
Quick question, did you finally try it out? Even if you didn’t, it’s always fun to make god-like characters in D&D Beyond.
Thank you, for showing me bravery and heroism and family,
Vox Machina.
Thank you, for showing me how to surpass yourself,

Thank you, for saving the happiness in my life,

I wasn't prepared to say goodbye to the Nien, but what a great send off. Caleb was my favorite this campaign.
I don't care what anyone says, Sam makes THE best characters! Nott/Veth was so fucking well played and thought out!
Gotta say, there is something about sincere improv that it so violently powerful. I feel like even if you dont know their story, watching their ending affects your being.
Travis: "Let's do it again."
Level 2! Level 2! Level 2!
"fleh... like a turtle tryin ta fuuk" OMG that got me so damn good!!
That is not how I would put that sound into writen words, but you do you
I lived when Essek said his good byes because it was basicly Matt saing goodbye to M9
One of my favorite things about the end of C2 is that Sam finally got his wish to save Liams character
I started to tear up when Caleb released Frumpkin, and a moment later my own cat wandered over and curled up on the couch next to me. I think I know how Caleb feels now, we truly don't deserve cats, but we do need them sometimes.
at this moment it is 23 hours until the first M9 reunion episode... I rewatched all of your C2 comps to get back in my feelings and now I'm crying again. what a family. what a time. what a beautiful story they shared with us. I can't wait to see them again.

I watched all 7 hours at work the Monday after it aired. I can spend another 90 minutes watching an abridged version.
Thanks for these edits!
This is the kind of show you can come back to over, and over because it’s just that good.
I think I NEED an after campaign full length "Sprinkle Supercut"! Travis makes me laugh so hard.
If you need more of that voice, he uses it in his Darrington Brigade character
Thanks so much for doing these, they've brought me so much joy
@marisharaygun Thank you for all your hard work. When I couldn't catch a live show I always rested easy knowing that you'd give me the lowdown on it just a couple days later. I hope someone notices your talent and makes you Grand Poobah of something.
I just saw that and started crying again. I guess it is really over now... Thank you for all your videos. They always make me smile
I can't help but think that when Kingsley visits Yasha and Beau, Yasha accidentally answers the door in an apron and nothing else, scarring poor Kingsley for life.
I’m not sure he would bat much an eye, but that would still be hilarious.
Liam- "I will take your halfling luck" And then he did
Dude, thank you for all you've done! Those videos are a highlight of my weeks everytime ^^
And please, don't do it if you don't want to. You don't owe us anything. Thanks again and take care.
I feel like i am one of the few people who appreciated or noticed the Tombstone reference Liam did when Travis used counterspell on Trent
was keen to watch this, and then the Frumpkin scene reminded me I AM NOT KEEN TO CRY ALL OVER AGAIN, I WAS SUCH A GROSS MESS AFTER THAT EPISODE
but also, thank you for all your hard work, these have always been a delight
By the time this episode went live, I had told my roommates to leave me alone for the night, locked my door, had snacks and tissues ready. I walked into this emotional episode ready. I didn't need the tissues until the last few minutes.
