I really appreciate your down to earth approach to storytelling and not sugar coating anything. I feel like a majority tend to see this line of work as glitz and glamour 24/7. To be able to do what you did for seven years seems so hard. You seem like such a strong individual Joyce.

Completely agree with you! I worked for a Kpop Concert/ Entertainment company on the East coast and I left after I was tired of loosing myself. Working in this industry does something to a you
and there's a time where you have to say enough is enough. I've witness part- timers getting yelled at by senior staff members and I've seen artists treating staff members like crap.

The way you tell your story kind of reminds me of stories from people who worked at Disney. From the outside (to the public) its this happy perfect place, but inside its the opposite. If you've never heard of swoozie, you should check out his disney employee stories.

It's really nice to know the industry workings from another viewpoint. A very very demanding job you had and you did it really well. I have always wondered how it would be like being a staff. Not that I could ever coz I majored in a completely different field but just curious. And now I got some idea. Awaiting more storytime 👍🏼👍🏼

Aw it's alright being naive. And then go to being strict. It's difficult to balance it. Thank you again for sharing. I love to see another view and I really hope the korean music industry within kpop stop replying so much on fans. I wish staff and idols really gould rest. I also think relationship will improve because if you're always stressed and exhausted then it's really difficult to stay happy and such. It's just hard and I'm also happy the words the manager said. I relate to you and it really help what he said. You really were a "slave" for their needs. I worked as a personal cleaner and i didn't even work for a year and i could relate. It was my job but you really feel like a slave sometimes. Cleaning up after others and tending to their basic needs.

  • @Blue-iv5fv

i can understand completely why from the company's perspective it's not good to have a "fan" be a staff member. the artist needs their space and need to be relaxed which they can't be in front of a person who might run off and recount the whole experience on twitter or worse turn out to be a sasaeng. not that all fans do that and i know most of the fans do respect the artist and have the ability to keep their personal emotions and work apart but the company cannot risk it. plus if someone's sole purpose to do a job is to be able to see their favorite artist... may be their work efficiency won't be that great.
talking of sasaengs though, as a kpop staff you must have had some experiences of seeing them try to interact with the artists. i would love to know any experience and your thoughts about it. Also, do you think if the artists are more vocal about what kind of fan behavior they don't like they can make the young people (who are more susceptible to sasaeng behavior and might not understand that it is wrong at their age) stop acting that way and learn to respect the artist?

    • @Joyciekim

Oh I definitely have had interactions with my fair share of them...that's something I'll make sure to address in a future video!

Hi Joycie! I found out about your channel because of twitter and just wanted to tell that I felt so relatable with many things that you mentioned in your videos because I also started working almost 3 years ago in this field of concert productions as my very first job and in the part of artists hospitality most of the time too! As well as you like picking them up at the airport, transportation, rider stuff, etc and I understand how does it feel to always need to be there to help in any situation even if it’s tiring sometimes and we just slept for a few hours.
I can’t imagine the exhausting times when you had to travel from tour to tour or events, in my case where I work we just do events locally in Peru of a variety type of shows not just kpop but I consider that the production and work process is almost the same in every events.
Thank you for sharing your experiences!! ☺️ Once I considered making videos with this topic but didn’t do it at the end, It is a great content that is unusual to find or people talk online but is very interesting every anecdote, from good to bad, I think people should know too! I appreciate the nice interactions that I had but there are also the bad behaviors that we must deal with respect in production.
Hope to see more interesting stories in your next videos! ✌️✨

I think Korean work laws should be changed to get rid of this bad working conditions. In both Japan and Korea people overwork and give the minimal salary to the workers The worst part is it is considered as a good thing when it literraly cripling the society by minimialising personal time and crushing families. This is the main reason why suicide numbers too high and birth rates are too low in these countries. I am glad you got away from that kind of slave work. Btw if you work someone and don't give enough money or make them overwork without paying it means literrally definition of modern slavery.

Your videos should be watched by fans who are quick to jump into conclusions and blame the staff for every single mistake during events and shows. I'm a big fan of K-Pop since elementary but it's very sad that most fans are vvv inconsiderate with their unending demands esp now that we're in a pandemic and most are under staffed. I hope people would just understand before they'd give out comments to people like you who are just doing their best in a taxing job.

i feel that i can relate to that feeling that you're hopeless on the job like you just find something to motivate you to go back & do it again the next day. i think to summarize your cons, this job is not for everyone. 😁

Con N5 i’m not going to say that i feel you 💯 but i can relate as a flight attendant working for a big company they expect us to baby sit or spoil the passengers mostly the (VIP’s or celebrities)🙄 i mean most of the time we try our best to please everyone but sometimes people are plain rude and you can’t help but feel like you said a ^slave^

Kudos to all the years you've weathered the storm. I guess cons are similar to working for celebs and 1% high-profiles. We both started at 18 but unlike you, I'm still employed under this very demanding job. All the best to all of us this 2021!

Honestly, your experience doesn't sound that much different from being in events for any big company....except for the Kpop idols part. Most companies will take advantage of youthful energy. I think a better way to tell you "not to have pride", would be to not have unrealistic expectations about what the job really is...that person put things on you, instead of where faults actually lie (all the things you mentioned). Maybe you learned this when you had the car accident? It's awesome you have great memories and made some friends, thanks for sharing.

If there's a chance you'll see and answer this unnie. I just want to ask considering you've been in the industry for a long time, were there moments when you felt like what you're doing is worth it or if sometimes you feel contented with your job and it would outweigh the heavy demand of it?

  • @sarahbhg7233
    @sarahbhg7233 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you so so much for sharing all of these things!! It was a rough 7 years huh..🥺 I'm sorry you had to go through all of this stress and drama. Also I could really relate to the "people pleasing" point. I'm really similar to the point that my co-workers shake their heads when I can't say no because I genuinely don't mind to do certain requests but no one else but me would ever agree to them. Also it's great that you mentioned that not everyone working in the industry actually meets the artists! I think some people out there do have really high expectations so this should be very helpful.
I hope your current job is a bit easier than before and I hope you're on a career path that really fulfills you♡ have a great day!
