Now out on the AT trail we did some tree knocking and sometimes got a answer back. Plus we heard some screams and whoops. My tent I'm using is the tent me and my daughter used when she was younger. Before that dating time. It's a MSR Elixir 2. Maybe we will be doing some tree knocking out there and see if we get an answer. It's nice to hear them yell out at night. When me and mom backpacked in Germany we heard them screaming at night in the black forest. They call it that because at night you can't see your hand in front of your face. My dad was from Ludinghausen which is located in North West Germany and my mom grew up in Ulm. Ulm is famous for having the highest church tower that you can climb up to the top. Somewhere around 2300 steps and takes about 2 hours to get to the top. Don't quote me on the number of steps. Southern Germany is the best place to backpack.
I used to be a avid backpacker. My mom got me at a young age to hike with her. Then i joined the boy scouts and she was my den mother. She took a bunch of us camping out in the woods. We carried everything on our backs and we all enjoyed ourselfs. Then in 1977/78 i did a thru hike of the AT trail. I learned alot of great things out there. It took me two years to finish it. In 1977 i started from geogia to pa with one friend. Then we moved from morrisville oa to pittsburgh. Then i made a few good friends and one decided to join me from Pa to maine. But i finished it. Then moving foward many years. Moving to florida, getting married, raising my daughter then getting a divorce, but my daughter stayed with me. That was her choice. Then having my left leg removed below the knee and then being placed on SSDI i decided to do another thru hike of the AT trail. I got as far as west virginia before my custom hiking poles broke in half, so i got on the amtrak train and came home. The next year i did a thru hike of the florida trail before hurricane season. Only saw two bear bears and 5 small gators and a bunch of deer and chipmonks. I was very happy. Then i got a spinal cord infection that almost killed me. None of my doctors still to this day know how i got a E-Coli infection on my spinal cord. My dictors told me that i would never walk again. Then i fired all of them and proved them wrong. I walked about 60 feet. From the hallway to the mri machine and then back to my chair. I have not seen them since and that was over 5 years ago. Now i get around in a wheelchair, but oractice in my walking. When i wakk it feels like somebody is stabbing my lower back with a ice pick. But me and my good friend are going to goldhead state park in january. The 28th theu the 30th. Just trying to see if i can still do what i love. Sleeping outside under the stars, cooking some great AT foods over a open fire or using my jetboil stove and my coleman dual fuel stove. Now alittle hit about me. I turned 65 in june and i stand at 7 foot 3 inches tall. My trail name out on the AT was pegleg and the first time doing it my teail name was Big Foot. I wear a size 19 sneaker. And since retiring from a armed security officer im trowing out my hair. Once it gets long enough i will donate it to a little boy and girl who has cancer. They need a full head of hair on top of there heads, not a skull cap. Thats the least i xan do for them. But i love watching hiking and backpacking videos. Great job keep it up. Plus i subscribded to your page.
54 at the Lake Loop. Not ideal for a tent, but first time reserving a camp site so didnt know what to look for when booking. Now I know to avoid inner loop sites.
@@cfaas001 that's alright! You have a pretty nice setup for a first timer! Nice tent (really good brand $$$$$), nice bike (I'm a mountain biker), nice truck! I'm going on Christmas time this year and I just got the site #09, LOOP SAND! Let's see how it goes
