- my tiny houseboat build is one step closer to launch day at the lake. This week consisted of working on some assorted bits and bobs on the boat build, including building and installing the rear wall of the houseboat

About me: I decided to jump on an opportunity to buy a school bus for $1000. After 2.5 years of building and a couple summers doing bus life, I sold the bus and began building a tiny house boat from scratch. My hope is that with a couple years of practice building under my belt, I can do a bit better of a job this time and build something that actually floats 🤞

I must say, watching you for quite a while now has brought me to the conclusion that you are a wonderful role model for young women.
Men too!
All that effort for that??

Same here, only 67.
You are amazing. Great job. As a old man, my wife and are amazed by you drive
"With a little help from my friends" you go girl! Love the progress you are making.
I'm Just Happy I'm Here and Not Spend Too Much Time Puzzling How I Got Here. That's gold! There's you next tee Emma.
I can’t believe how far you have come. It’s going to be amazing when it hits the water. I’m definitely here for it.
You are clever, hardworking and persistent. I admire you immensely. I'm already looking forward to seeing your houseboat on the water.
Hello from Ireland!
I just recently found your channel and binge watched your entire skoolie build, it tured out looking amazing. Keep up the amazing hard work on the house boat, it will turn out fantastic.
thanks!
Yep, not surprised. You will be soon be launching this house boat!!
Yep. L👀king Good Emma! Can't wait till you're buying the outboard for this beauty. Shortly after that, you Will be setting sail! 😎👍
It looks great! I’m feeling such vicarious and joyful pride for you.
Watching you and your adventures is an honour. Such a talented young lady. You remind me so much of my daughter who is a go getter like you. I look forward to every new video you put out. Never let a project get you down. Time out when frustrated is always a great idea.
it's actually a quick-ish build considering the size of the boat, as far a boat building goes. It's a big boat for a first build. At least it's a houseboat, making it a lil bit simpler to build.
Nice job Emma. You are killing it. See you on the next one.
This is getting real Captain Emma. Great work.
looking good. first Build is a Build You always will remember .Great work and Looking Good. 😀
Watching Emma Builds Houseboat is a great way to start the weekend! It’s been fun to watch you persist with this project and solve problems along the way.
Your woodworking skills have vastly improved!
I get a big smile on my face watching you GO!!! Dianne too, want's me to tell you that she is totally impressed with you!!! This is a fun time in the build and I was so happy to get a roof over my head, I can't wait for your reaction when reaching that step! Great work! Enjoying following along!!! AllthebestRoy
thank you!! always love to see you guys following along. I'm SO excited for the roof
You picked a good plan and have followed it pretty much step by step. Your skills and confidence have grown. I said you could do it. Close in is coming and finishing will follow. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
things are looking great Emma, hope you realize that you can do so much more than you think is possible
Hello from San Francisco.
Wow! You are getting close! Very exciting, and I can't wait to see it on the water!
Aren’t you just something. ❤❤. Building like a rock star. Yes you are!!!!
I'm looking forward to, Emma Builds forever Home. All this Building practice will come in handy ,if you ever do build your own Place. Your Boat is looking fantastic, you rock!
Your confidence and efficiency with your tolls has come soo far🎉🎉
Keep up the great work, your doing a great job, and admitting g you don’t know it all or admitting your lack of confidence in what you doing is refreshing, none of us have everything figured out in life..
We thoroughly enjoy your adventures you kindly share with us all. It is truly appreciated.
I'm completely invested in the Houseboat build ... My opinion you're doing a phenomenal job with the construction.
And embrace your mistakes and second guesses, how we learn.
I speak from experience of my first car build fifty years ago getting the drive-line geometry wrong.
Keep up the good work.... Lots of people pulling for you.
Thanks!
So glad you are posting your great work on your floating home
they're coming fast and furious now!!
You remind me of daughter so much there is nothing she can’t do or figure out how to do and end the end it is wonderful and very clean and well done. Keep up the good work you are doing great and great role model for young girls and females in general. Stay safe and health be blessed
You are doing a fantastic job!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍
Just finished a 1 year boat build. Step by step it comes together. You are doing great. I'm always impressed with your use of tools.
I am impressed with your accumulation of useful tools, and ability to use them. Things like routers and other tools have become smaller and easier to use, and maybe even less expensive, but no idea about that...
I went thru a stain phase around your age, but decided that sealer and paint was more predictable and lasted longer for outdoor use.
I was seriously just thinking what a confident builder you have become when you said that about someone more confident coming to visit. I watched you cut a 2x2 in from the end with a circular saw AND use an angle grinder . . . I remember how you were about both of those tools at the very beginning. I was just thinking how many imperfections my bus has. . . . You're doing so great. Thanks for sharing.
I remember a moment when I started the bus build where I had to ask my brother how to adjust the depth on the circular saw haha. Hope the bus is coming along well 😊
@@EmmaBuildsBirbie You've come a long way! . . . It's been a little slow but I have a plan for a spring launch that's achievable. Music festivals next summer . . WOOHOO! . . 🙂
Slowly figuring out that mistakes are fixable. Fear of mistakes just get in the way of progress.
Moving right along
I'm getting really excited for you now Emma 😃😃 You're getting there girl. 😊😊
thank you 😊
Fun to watch, as always. I wish you all the best as you push forward. Most importantly, enjoy the company of your friends and make sure you take time to soak in just how far you have come.
Always mix all your same color stains together so they will be the same
I only had one can
Kudos on the epoxy coating. One word of caution - while the epoxy protects the wood from moisture, it does not protect against UV. If you want to achieve a great protective coating, like the old, classic boats with twelve coats of spar varnish, you can add another coat or two of epoxy on your wood surfaces and then apply three coats of spar varnish, allowing each coat to be dried and sanded between coats. It will look deep and last a good long time.
Hi Emma you should run a double wide layer of two inch tape around the edge of your decks then find a nice size radius Mark those out in all the corners then put none skid sand in some epoxy roll it in those areas pull the tape before fully dry looks great 🥰
Crazy you do this all on your own. Keep going. Can`t wait to see that boat finished
Looking good Emma
Some serious headway. Congratulations. Not sure what Roy calls for on the plans, but if you layer the deck with fiberglass make sure you run the fiberglass up the walls at least a few inches. Also on the roof. Fiberglass all the way to the end and down on the edges. My builder didn't bring the fiberglass down on the edges on the roof and I have cracks at the joints. Something I had to temporarily fill. later, when I refinish the decks with white nonskid I'll probably apply some more fiberglass over the edges of the roof. The stuff is very easy to work with, sticky but not complicated. Be thinking about the electronics you plan to have in there. Get some good quality LED overhead lights, and some remote controlled led lights that you can change to red at night. Freaking bugs can be unreal at night. Alexis, my daughter, was covered up by them boating up a creek to stay the night.
Lookin' good. I love houseboats. Highest Blessings
Starting to look like a boat now. Excellent work Emma 😊❤❤❤
🎉Yahoo....I'd put rainwater collection on...probably use the Sawyer mini bucket system. Just bought a 100 psi seaflow for twenty bucks.....its like a pressure washer 😊
What's going to be your maiden voyage?? Any thought yet?
Awesome job, too. The things you're learning with this you won't soon forget - hard work forever pays.
Looking good. I’m so excited about this boat build. I can’t wait till you get to launch it. Pretty awesome accomplishment girl.
🎵 California Love🎵 you must really like this song. You've used it in several videos. Its catchy I like it too. 😂🕺💃
I think you're doing really really good! I'm not that big on wood boats. But I do believe it's going to be quite nice when you're done. You seem to enjoy working with the wood. You might want to Look into Being a Cabinet maker. There's good money in it . And a certain amount of satisfaction.
Working with the wood. God bless you keep up the good work.
Doing a great job. Also love that compound mitre saw you have. You have really shown us your skills with many different tools.
Amazing! What's next? A truck camper?
There is so much progress in your last two vids. It's amazing and it's going to be in the water soon.
Birbie Two is coming right along. Great job!
Emma, your absolutely killing it both on the boat build and the use of the tools i mean the confidence is there and it shows! Thanks for Sharing... p.s. color schemes also on point.
You should be proud of yourself you are doing a beautiful job.
Have you considered making 2 passes with the router so doesnt have to push so hard and you get a great finish. Love the build. Stay safe J.
Man ... Where were you 40 yrs ago...I could not find a gal that was adventurous and had that kind of motivation! I find myself building "Buster" on my own. All my gal pals and buddies are too broke up to be useful...alas, it is what it is...rocks are hard and water is wet!
Goodonyas! Go get'm tiger!
You are a great example for my 10 granddaughters who like to watch ‘boy stuff, with grandpa on TH-cam
Congratulations you doing amazing j may all your journeys be blessed and full of happiness peace joy and love you are truly amazing woman
Algorithm brought me a couple months ago & I'll never understand why...but at this point I'm fully invested in you succeeding 😁
It's looking great Emma! I'm wondering , are you going to see if she floats before you start working on the interior? Last thing you want is it sinking fully furnished! :)
I can't believe how much work you got done in these scant 15 minutes that I've been watching. Good job!
i always have the same thought while playing back footage at 3x speed 🤨
Almost there! You can do it!
Great video Emma
So impressed!!! Follow you from Sweden. I look every second day for a new movie since you are so inspiring. But, I know how much time and effort it takes, I should be more patient. Still remember when me and my friend built two small plywood boats. The best memory from my youth (40 years ago). Good luck with the rest.
You are such a ray of sunshine Emma! There’s hope for humanity if you’re an example of our next generation. Thank you for doing you and for sharing that with us! You make me smile!
it's looking so good! Can't wait to see it float! Keep up the hard work
Its so nice to watch you build that.👍👍
Hey Emma, your project is looking so good!! Love your style!! Your a rocker❤❤
if you keep track of the material used in building - especially sheets of plywood, you'll be able you estimate the weight and displacement and the water line. It pays to double up on the seams below the water line.
Emma one of the things I would have done is take that bad boy and put it overboard to see if it had leaks before starting on the deck, etc. I don't think it would have any but you don't know and with just the shell it would have been easier to fix with the deck and everything else might be a little hard to get to stuff just my thoughts but great job girl!
When you re-stained after sanding, the wood probably had a different texture than when you started. That can cause it to absorb more stain than normal.
Also, I just found your channel about a month or so ago, and I powered through all the episodes binge watching the crap out of them. Now that I'm caught up, can you upload about 4 or 5 videos every day? Plez. :D
hmm yes i think i can manage that
@@EmmaBuildsBirbie Schweet!
Day one in the bus when the power saw startled you
You’ve really come a long way in your building skills
And FYI the milk delivery trucks used to be two different colors because people 14:52 could only see one side at a time and would look like twice as many trucks so maybe peeps at the lake will think you have two boats
Endeavor to preserve!! 😉
Emma, you're almost there, can't wait to see you in it. BTW, what will you name your newly 'home on water'?
I watched a few videos on the guy that designed this house boat and his one.. Pretty cool.. Will like to see your's when its all finished.
You made serious progress in this video, keep going
You really got a lot done in this episode.
It’s actually starting to look like a boat, and a home.
Wishing you well.
great and beuatiful new video from te house boat
With Birbie, the interior required a lot of work, but the framework - the bus's body - already existed. This boat began from literally nothing, completely from scratch. I would not be surprised if you've already received manufacturing job offers by those impressed by your skills, self-discipline, and persistence (if it's Boeing on the line, tell them you'll get back to them).
hahah god help us all if I'm making commercial airplanes
Love your boat build! A quick tip for your plywood templates - use double sided tape rather than nails. May be a bit easier…or not. 🤷
hahah you will find I've already tried this if you watch my first couple boat videos
I was hoping for another video, yay.
I'm new to your channel and looking forward to seeing the completion. Good job so far.
Who doesn't love homemade houseboats??
And the shanty boat channels.
Great job its coming along Beautifully 😍 🤩.... I still want to c u travel more though...❤❤❤
Stains are tricky Heart wood sap wood any thing on the wood like glue can all affect the results
philip bolger would be proud of you
Great progress Emma
Sometimes when things have been opened up and said around for a little bit it can cause it to change colors a little bit below darker
Coming along nicely. Good work!
Just found your channel , wow you are doibg great , you have taken on a huge task but you are getting through it well done , from Australia
That is looking so cool. You go girl!
Coating with a pad like that I was taught to use kapok wadding covered with muslin though cotton wool is adequate wadding & the cover can be thin cotton or linen or, for a finer finish, silk.
the boat is looking good Emma. Can we an update on the porch?- also luv that truck and camper. cant wait for the S.S. Emma to start her maiden voyage. dont wear yourself out Emma. later Charlie from Arkansas. also send some rain its hot and dry here.
The time (length) covered up the H in the title and my brain went straight to MousBoat. Maybe that's a good name, to follow on from the Birbie Bus
Nice work yes
the boat so far looks great Emma and of course great video as always. But lately I've absolutely fallen in love with toyota tacomas lol just wondering what year yours is? I had a corolla back when I was in high school and into my early 20's and I absolutely loved that car and drove it every where including up and down the east coast and to and from Florida twice and everywhere in between.
