Because of commercial oriented products. Everything nowadays needs to be done fast and cheap. In the past people prefered things that take time but last long, and also look beautiful. Its sad to be a craftsman these days...
I love your your wonderful work on this series. However, after all the hard work, it's a pity not able to see the construction finished from different angels, far and near. It would be great to the supplement.
Best way to build a home.. forget shipping containers and baby barns, these buildings will last far longer, for more work you get more bang for your buck. a tough home that will not disappoint, this is the original modular home (You can build it up but you cannot take it down and move it)
Thanks for sharing your work. I'd love to know... are those bamboo pieces on the roof? And, do roof tiles go on top of them or is there something else in between? Looking at applying some Chinese traditional roofing concepts to a small building here - roof tile, roof shape, structural timbers, raised foundation. Figure the Chinese lasted a long time without building mold killing them off, so I'd give it a try
Saludos.
Hi , there are a lot of books translated to English , you could do some search online . This video only show a small part of Chinese timber framed building .
The subtitles are in Chinese. If you really want to learn, you can copy and write out the characters into a Chinese/English dictionary app. It will be very good practice for you.
the small pieces undre the joints is just a traditional habit , it is from a bracket system we call "Dougong" , we did use triangle to support frame back in Han Dynasty , then we just started to use DouGong .
Heya, You have a helpful video here. The most complete woodworking plans that I have ever used was Toms Magic Wood (i found it on google). Without a doubt it contains the most useful woodworking plans that I have ever tried.
like the roof , there are nails on the roof ,because there is no point to carve joints for hundred roof planks , just nail them , it is faster and better .
Que show!!
Encontrei o que estava interessado.

why is tradition always so beautiful and the modern houses always so dull?

They often had elaborate (or simple but works) lacquers that helped against mold and stuff.
Es lo maximo en carpintería
Cool. I like it. I subscribed

I like ...
is there any book published on their woodworking technique?
There is their ancient building manual, called the Yingzao Fashi
Nin hao!
My Father was a carpenter in northern Canada. I am learning mandarin. Would it be possible to get the subtitles as a transcript?

I need to get one of those hammers
so those depth extensions increase shear strength and all they use for knee braces are those small pieces under the joints? interesting.
the reason must be earthquakes. Knee braces are very stiff connections that would transfer the vibration to the roof, where most of the weight lies.
the small pieces undre the joints is just a traditional habit , it is from a bracket system we call "Dougong" , we did use triangle to support frame back in Han Dynasty , then we just started to use DouGong .
Is it possible to visit this masters?
Nails were used to fasten some parts. It was a disappointment.
zheijang province

Compare with Americans who use nails for building
Awful 'camerawork'=zero information transmitted. waste of 'film'.
whats traditional in using metal nails and electric tools... old carpies are rolling in their graves now.
They should be rolling from time to time. It is unhealthy to stay in the same position for too long.
there is no wood building doesnt use nails . there was a reason human use wood joints ,but there is also a reason we start to use cement .
why?
like the roof , there are nails on the roof ,because there is no point to carve joints for hundred roof planks , just nail them , it is faster and better .
They rolling from being called carpies by you too
