      It's feels like computers have written all the popular songs for the last 10 years. Yeah I'm a geezer, but whether I liked or didn't like certain songs in the 60's and 70's, at least they were written by people with heart and emotions they wanted to convey. And they ACTUALLY KNEW HOW TO PLAY INSTRUMENTS.

    All the best DOORS Tunes are not the ones you hear people asking for. The best songs on DOORS albums are the ones like these tunes the "B" sides and the ones that did not get airplay time..

    The Doors were like a comet--they hit the scene out of no where, put out six albums in rapid succession over the next five years, and then they were gone. But what albums! My best friend of 50+ years passed away in December, he was a big Doors fan, and we were lucky enough to see the Doors play in Asbury Park in the summer of 1967.

    • @curtadams7406
      @curtadams7406 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@kelvinkloud Kevin, you've made me access the depths of my memory. I remember it as two separate shows--the band, and Morrison. Manzarek, Kreiger, and Dinsmore were sort of, "we're here to do a job, play our music." That they did with perfection, but they were not showmen in any sense, they let their playing do the talking. Of course, they did not need to be showmen because of...Jim. However, "showman" is not really the correct term for Jim, because it implies a personna that was contrived and and act that was planned and rehearsed, and I do not think he did either. (Or maybe he did both, but so well he fooled us all.) When Morrison was on stage it was like another being had entered his body, and you never knew what he would do, especially since it was no secret that he enjoyed his alcohol before shows. Back then so did I, and because the Asbury Park Convention Hall did not check concertgoers for contraband, my recollections of the second half of the show are dim. In short, the performance was more like "Jim Morrison accompanied by some fine musicians." One detail I still recall is that the version they did of "The End" was considerably longer than the album version, Jim inserted a lot of lyrics and imagery about the car accident and Indians strewn across the road that is referenced in "Peace Frog." The Doors and Morrison were unique.

      @@curtadams7406 thx… wish I’d been there. 10 years too young, but big fan. It’s good to hear someone like u that was there. It seems the aura thing was real. He had a real sense of dramatic impact and evoking himself inside the song. It seems he had no peer, even in that great era. I think he actually gets short changed in how influential and talented he was. He was inconsistent, had demons w/ booze & his law issues & marketing hype obscure it seems how innovative talent he had.

      @@kelvinkloud Danny Sugarman's 1980 book "No One Here Gets Out Alive" is a useful resource for exploring the Doors. Also the 1991 Movie "The Doors." with Val Kilmer doing a great job portraying Jim. Interestingly, the release of the movie caused a revival in interest in the Doors music, their songs were on the radio again for many months. Test to see how serious of a Doors fan you are--would you trade being ten years older if it meant you would have seen them perform? Thought not!

    Love the channel. This is the music from my teenage years and the Doors were my favorite band. Nobody had the sound that they had and no one since comes close. If you want more of Robbie and Jim, please listen to ‘Spanish Caravan’. I think it’s from the ‘Waiting for the Sun’ album. You will hear Robbie’s flamenco chops and it’s outstanding. Also from that album is the track ‘Yes, The River Knows’ and this might be the most hauntingly beautiful song they ever recorded IMHO. Thanks again for listening and keeping his priceless music alive! Peace, brother.

    1) There's some question about the details of the infamous car accident. Jim's father, Admiral Steve Morrison, recounted that they came across the accident on the highway, but that there weren't bodies strewn across the road. There were some people hurt but no one dead, and when Admiral Morrison asked if they needed help, he was told that help was on the way, so the Morrison family carried on with their trip. I suspect that Jim may have blown up the incident in his mind, or purposely exaggerated the incident as part of his persona. He was known for coming up with wild tales when he was growing up, eg. asking his teacher for permission to take a day off because he was going to have surgery for a brain tumour.
    2) Indian Summer is actually an out-take from the sessions for the first Doors album. It was left off because of lack of space and time on the vinyl record (an early version of Moonlight Drive was also left off). The band dug it out for Morrison Hotel, and Jim recorded a new vocal, but the instrumental track is from the first album sessions.
