Being the one to kill his demonized mother, witness his siblings being slaughtered, his remaining brother cursing at him for the death of their mother, hunting demons from a very young age with very literal knowledge and only fueled by pure hatred, also having close members in the Corps be killed off (his partner and the love of his life), and have the very person he's been trying to protect willingly throw themselves into danger.
Actually, Tanjiro reminds him of his old friend Masachika who was just as kind as Tanjiro, and while he seems to dislike the boys, Sanemi is actually glad Genya got to make some friends

Sanemi suffered and did some heartbreaking moments as he grew up and it's only him and Genya. He didn't want Genya joining the Demon Slayers because he wanted Genya live a peaceful life and if any demons were to harm/threatened Genya Sanemi will protect him and his family.
