    Dear Ben,
    Lately ive been watching some of your videos, and the projects look really daring and original. So keeping that in mind.. here's the thing:
    I am a physically handicapped pc gamer, and im looking for an extremely lightweight gaming mouse. Basicly i have 1/20th of a normal person's finger/hand/lower arm strength, so a very light click, and extreme light weight is a must.
    The one I am using right now, is 80 grams and getting to heavy to use.
    So i thought it might be a neat idea to work on.
    Keep rolling out those awesome projects!

    Someone needs to make a portable xbox one without a disc drive. It would strictly play digital titles but that would cut down on it's size considerably.

    • @DrizzlingDrizzlers

      I don't mean an official release. Just a modded console by someone like this guy.

      Eric Borenstein - Yeah or make a portable accessory that communicates with your xbox one at home. That way it wouldn't replace their flagship console, but would give people portable xbox one games.

    I hope you're wrong about discless consoles. Downloads mean less competition and higher prices. Also, there are parts of the world where downloading 10GB+ isn't viable.

    • @ShamanNaoYuki
      @ShamanNaoYuki 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Downloadable games means lower price, no artist designed packaging, no case, no physical media, no shipping to stores, no mark up so the store makes profit on top of what the producer makes.
      The reason an e-copy of a game still costs the same as the retail copy is because stores have a monopoly on games. If Microsoft or Sony marks down their prices 5-10$ in their e-shop, GameStop has said they will stop carrying their games. Which will directly hurt their sells because so many people still buy the physical copy.
      As it is right now, many people rely on the physical disk to play their games on their consoles. There are many reasons for this such as terrible internet connections, console gamers being less computer savvy, and a lack of space on a consoles hard drive for large games just to name a few.
      PC gamers have gotten away from that since stores no longer carry physical media for the PC in any grand scale and we have sources such as Steam which gives very reliable service and reasonable prices.
      I'm not going all PC masterace here. Having a physical object to show for the money you spent is nice. And I miss the boxed PC games from my youth. But it's something that is fallen by the wayside. And it will reach the consoles soon enough.
      To contend with your weaker internet issues, I'm fairly sure that xboxonetwo and PS5 will just be a physical box that streams video games from supercomputers. There will be no disks to buy or even games to download. You just pay a monthly service fee and play what you want when you want it, no waiting to download just pick a game and go. The only thing holding it back right now is a lack of fiber optic infrastructure to keep latency down to a reasonable level.

    • @dennett316
      @dennett316 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Chris Hicks
      And yet this has proven to be false. Sure, they're playing an awkward game right now of trying to keep brick and mortar stores happy by not undercutting them...but most of the time, the downloads are more expensive than retail discs...not even the same price, more expensive. Retail discs also are discounted in price far more quickly than the downloadable versions are. Little Big Planet 3 on PS4 was available from online retailers for £25 this week. It's currently £49.99 on PSN.
      This isn't just a console thing either...even on Steam, the prices of games like Call of Duty have gradually risen to match the price of the console versions.
      In theory, digital games SHOULD cost less, but in practice, it's a hugely different story. And things will not change if the next consoles are download only. You really think that publishers will willingly choose to charge less for games when gamers continue to buy them at such hugely inflated online prices despite physical versions being cheaper? A download only future would be horrible...especially if/when net neutrality is abolished. How long will it take to download 50gig+ games then?

    • @dennett316
      @dennett316 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Chris Hicks
      Also, the type of cloud gaming you talk about would be pretty terrible when millions of people around the world are trying to access new release games at launch. We've seen how easily online launches are screwed up even today...that will only get worse if everyone is forced to go online. Visual quality takes a hit, latency goes up, if servers drop you lose connection to the game and lose progress at the wrong times. That vision of gaming is an awful one...and I can't believe that anyone would seriously welcome that. Streaming movies is one thing, streaming games is a sub-par experience all over.

    • @crazyboyandyomama
      @crazyboyandyomama 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Hicks So if every had Google Fiber then this would be possible.
      but yeah i hate gamestop for doing that.

    • @ShamanNaoYuki
      @ShamanNaoYuki 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And yet there are steam sells a couple times a year with games as much as 75% off where instead of the paying $50, you're only paying $12.50. And there is the no tax either. The publisher will make more money selling 10,000 steam sell copies (which isn't an unreasonable number) at $12.50 a pop ($125,000) than the 1000 copies at full price ($50,000).
      There are lots of people that will not pay full price for a game. Buying a used game from gamestop gives $0 to developers and publishers. So they need a way to market their product at a competitive price. Buying a game at a lower price is the only way some people can afford to play games, and steam sells cause people to binge buy games adding dollars to developers pockets they'd otherwise never see.
      The Sony and Microsoft stores lack vision and proper monitoring of pricing. They throw it up there at full price at leave it that way. Where it appears steam allows the publisher of the game to set the price actively to bring in more money.

    I dealt with that same issue with the drive. Take the outside metal shell off (top and bottom) and it should work at an angle. The unit itself is contained and doesn't actually need the metal shell to function. The magnet inside is secured already and from what I have seen the metal case actually stops the drive from engaging fully when at an angle.

The second reason is to provide more viewing angles while still being independently stable on a flat surface. All in all great build.

  • @NeoTheatre
    @NeoTheatre 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Optical media is dead...
    _if_ you don't mind _not_ playing any of your old disc games and prefer to purchase them _again_ (if they're even available in digital form) if the system that _can_ play them breaks,
    _if_ you trust companies to allow a digital copy of a game to be resold/traded by anyone who now possesses it (Xbox One only allows a game to be resold once and after that the new owner's stuck with it) AKA if you don't mind not truly owning the game but rather licensing it (and who knows if they'll change licensing agreements in the future for the worse),
    _and_ if you trust companies will start/continue to allow games to be lent.
    *When I say "disc games" I'm talking about "game stays on the disc" games (games that stay on the disc and that are not installed, and that still require the disc to play). I'm NOT talking about "installation disc" games that Xbox One uses (because installation discs have the same licensing restrictions).*

    • @NeoTheatre
      @NeoTheatre 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      SpaceMyName Supposedly the laws on ripping/backing up games and movies are different than ripping music, in the US at least (_even if_ you own and keep the original disc. From my understanding it's illegal to bypass any anti-piracy technology); so it depends on how _legal_ one wants to keep things (unless they change the law or unless I'm mistaken). *Also, I had other reasons I listed (**_legally_** reselling/trading/lending and actually owning the game as opposed to just the license).*
      I understand digital is superior from a technical standpoint but physical is better from an owning the game (not having to deal with licensing crap) standpoint.

    • @pueojit
      @pueojit 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      SpaceMyName There's one major flaw with removing optical media, not everyone has the possibility to get a decent internet. Until cheap fast internet is available to almost everyone in the US, optical media will not die

    • @metsubo
      @metsubo 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Neo Theatre Even when you buy a physical copy of the game you're still only purchasing a legal license to it no different than a digital license. A large number of games when you purchase the physical copy still require digital verification as evidence of this fact.

    • @NeoTheatre
      @NeoTheatre 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      metsubo Yeah, I reedited my original post to specify I was talking about "game on disc" games (games that stay on the disc and that are _not_ installed, _and_ that still require the disc to play) being a good thing, NOT installation discs. Sorry if I didn't explain myself well. I know the instillation discs deal with the same licensing stuff. But "game on disc" games can still be resold and lent without any restrictions unlike digital games.

      The fan for the Xbox One is actually quite thin compared to the fan for the 360 or a standard PC fan. The stand being in the way it's too much of a issue when you take into account that it's an exhaust vent and not an intake. It would be much worse if it was an intake. Still maybe not the best idea to have your exhaust vent immediately in front of the stand, but unlikely to cause any real issue.

    Thing I would have done different...since he asked, not that I'm a builder myself:
    Not have the case that's supposed to keep the screen protected as the stand, bits of dirt, crumbs etc may get stuck on it and then get pressed/rubbed against the screen negating it's reason for being there.
    Something like the Surface Pro's removable keyboards may have a better idea there, where you can remove it via magnets and use a built in stand instead to prop it up.

Start with a large flat panel, add a X-Box One & PS4 internally, Maybe a Raspberry Pie and one of those windows sticks PC...... All Wall mountable for a super size true entertainment device..... Just a thought. Other Items could be a steam box, Built in cam for skype and ect.... Could use the rasperry pie for primary "Smart" menu and controller for sharing the Webcam and other add-ons.
    Same concept could be built in a projector for portability. Thoughts?

    • @thevirtual_defy6853
      @thevirtual_defy6853 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The idea is great, However, it will very quickly become out dated as technological advances and the development of more effective internal hardware i.e. better cooling fans and the PS5 and new XBOX systems would atleast I hope outclass the PS4 and XBOX One systems. My next concern is power. The power that this thing would require would probably be around just a guess 1000w to anywhere around 2000w easily if you are going to incorporate a PS4 XBOX One Steam and computer like traits. Now moving on to my next concern. Weight. plain and simple. Weight. The PS4 weighs roughly 5 pounds and I am assuming an XBOX is somewhat close to that. now add that strain on a wall-mounted TV stand adding close to 80-120 lbs on to a stand with bolts drilled into wood, the strain if someone were to displace that weight i.e. hanging on it for balance or just a child hanging on it thinking its a game. Surely I assume would exceed the weight limit and either rip the mount off the wall or snapping the structual supports its bolted to in your home causing imminent failure of either the mount or the wood. Next up is Size. This device is going to be fat certainly not pleasing to consumers or relatively the human eye anymore. But the components in this would certainly please consumers. Next is price. If you were to make this you are going to be looking at close to 1300 dollars. This is too expensive to put all into one thing and worst case scenario it fails to work and ends up screwing everything over.

  • @notman05

    Some thoughts, on making it thinner (what I might have done). Would it be possible to replace the XBox power supply, with something smaller/thinner? Or make it external?
    Possibly relocate that heatsink, instead of keeping the default heatsink? (I know that adds risk)
    Did MS tie the optical drive to the unit again (like the 360)? If not, would it be possible to substitute the optical drive, with one from a laptop?
    Not to start a console war, but personally, I would have done this with a PS4, since it's fairly slim already. Then again, that's also the system I chose, for this generation of consoles.

Just thinking sort of crazy, I wonder if you could make a smaller package and leverage one of those pocket projectors and a piece of first-surface mirror from an old projection TV to make a rear projection setup that might yield a larger viewing area but then collapses for portability... It certainly would not be as bright and sharp, nor would it have much of a viewing angle. Never mind - I just talked my self out of it.
