This is awesome. I really respect that he didn't make a screen accurate upscaled Viper, but a toy accurate upscaled Viper. The nostalgia kick is incredible.
The fans are doing the best work, because they care for all the right reasons. I loved seeing this, there is so much that can be done, so much potential and possibilities to explore.
When I see amazing stuff like this Viper, I can't help but wonder what 3D printers are going to be capable of in another ten years. The potential is near limitless. Want a Gunstar from The Last Starfighter that you kept waiting to see at Toys R US, but never materialized? Wait no more! The Phantom Cruiser from Space Ghost? Done! Just buy the pattern online and some time on a printer, and you're set.
Sir I know that you have done the Cylon Raider and the land ramp one vehicle out of all Battlestar Galactica I want you have in your friend made is there any way that he can make one for me because I have been trying ever since the show began and I saw it way back when I was about two maybe three years old I've always wanted a toy sniper because I love the show and I love the way the ship looks so if you please help a fellow fan collection finishes collection of cool and badass spaceships
3D printers can already make amazing prints these days, check out the RPF to see what people are doing with their 3D printers. There are also 3D printers that can print with far less noticeable to no lines, but these are high resolution printers and are usually too expensive for the average hobbyist.
@@Riceball01 Yes, modern 3D printers can make amazing things already, but only for people with a lot of expertise working with these machines. Computers were capable of all sorts of things in the 70's and 80's, but it wasn't until the time came when they became easy to use for the average person that they came into common usage. That day hasn't arrived for 3D printers yet, but it will. The sooner the better.
The licensed toy makers had their chance years ago, and some of them blew it. So did some of the modern releases for collectors. But thanks to available technology, now it’s the fans’ turn. Bravo.
I have waited for anything from original BSG for a while, so thank you for this Michael! How can we get this Viper? Will there be a Cylon raider as well?
This is so awesome, and cannot believe Mattel drooped the ball so badly, when ever Mego recognized what they missed out on. Great to see this, and hope to find it someday for my Adama figure. Now if we could only get a Battlestar Galactica ship itself, as they advertised but never made it.
Thats so badass that you got that. I cant believe how visually satisfied I was at seeing Starbuck with his vehicle next to Luke Skywalker and Buck Rogers. Its like the Starbuck figure looked happier. Haha
That Viper is a thing of beauty. BATTLESTAR GALACTICA fans must be over the moon about this news! Nice to see fans like Michael finally getting a piece they must have waited years for. This video was very fun!
I went to Toys R Us as a kid to get a Viper and a Raider. They had one Raider left and as I waited on line to buy it I realized the box had been opened and the mini figure was gone.Regrettably put it back and never saw another. The one that got away.
I had a gold Cylon and a regular silver Cylon action figure. My brother had a Colonial Viper model and my other brother had a Cylon fighter model. I told him that the Cylon fighter model look like the Cookie crisp. Someone needs to do this for the Galaxy Rangers toy line.
As always excellent video thank you. I can recall conversations as a kid about what we would play and it always turned away from BG because of the disconnect between the ships and figures.
Your enthusiasm and joy, makes me happy. The viper looks spot on with the X-Wing, and the Thunderfighter. If it was slightly more yellow you'd never know...
"There’s not a ding or a scratch on it. It’s got the same tail number as the one she flew out on. But I’ve been fixing up that old bird since day one, and this thing looks like it’s been rolled off the showroom floor."

Hey Michael and Melinda, love you guys and what you do. You two look so young, so I'm positive you are well under my 51 years of age, but you have such similar toy taste to myself ( hopefully that doesn't make me seem creepy ), that I like to think of us as contemporaries.Lately, I have gotten into a kind of strange collectable kick. I now collect "wearable" star wars black series ( and Hasbro toy ) and marvel legends items primarily helmets and weapons like stormtrooper, shadowtrooper, shocktrooper, incinerator trooper, clone troopers, Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, Poe Dameron Xwing Pilot, LUke Skywalker Battle Sim Helmet, Boba Fett, Iron Man helmet, Black Panter Helmet, Ant Man helmet , Captain America Shield, Infinity Guantlet, Mjoulnir Hammer, Star Lord Space Helmet. Fun stuff.... cool to me , super nerdy to everyone I know. I would love to hear what you think of these kinds of collectable/toys. PS. I was at K-Mart as a kid found last Viper ov the shelf ( still had working missle launcher before recall) was at register paying for it and cashier said "box is damaged and missing proof of purchase seal" she thinking she was doing me a favor refused to sell me "dammaged " toy. Never saw another BSG vehicle in store again. Missed opportunity.
That Viper is totally awesome! If Mattel made that back in the day I would have begged for it to use with my Star Wars collection. Man imagine Luke's X-wing gets shot down by Vader's TIE and General Madine is like "ok send out our secret weapon" bam Viper! And Madine's figure had something to do!
Amazing things can happen when it is put in the hands of fans. This is a fantastic custom creation. I have wanted to see a Colonial Viper toy on this scale for a very long time.
I love seeing you so happy and positive about a subject! Fans are indeed the future and many subjects are possible with 3D printing. Personally, I want a Gunstar 1 in this scale!
Wow!! That's amazing... I still have all of my Battlestar Galactica figures... Michael you are correct I need this... another great video... Thank you RetroBlasting.
I completely get the enthusiasm. I had several figures and one vehicle, but it was that weird modular Colonial Stellar Probe. It could come so close to resembling a Viper that it only ended up frustrating me. Young me would have floated home from the store if this would have been available when I got that Probe. Excellent video.
Hello, Michael! I just wanted to thank you very kindly for posting this video. I came across it almost 3 weeks ago and it launched me into a HUGE nostalgic Battlestar Galactica kick since. Binged ALL the classic BSG episodes (and Galactica 1980 - please don't hate me for that). It's been quite a ride. And it's not over yet. I'm still enjoying this stroll down memory lane AND learning new things as I go along. In any case, you have my gratitude.
Damn it Mike, be careful with that red rocket! That thing flies into your mouth, we'll never get the Melinda Fett missile firing jetpack 6 inch Cobra helicopter pilot action figure!
I still hope a fan will one day combine the Palitoy Death Star concept with the Kenner Death Star into a ludicrously large, open-able, giant globe of a Death Star, set on a spinning axis so you could turn each section of the DS, etc. And with a vintage '78-style box you couldn't even fit in your back seat - as the ultimate Kenner SW playset they didn't go for at the time. One can dream. ;-)
I remember coming across a vintage Viper at a flea market and thought “this looks cool, but it’s too small for my liking”, and seeing this has me saying “woah, now THAT’S what I’m talking about!” Definitely a stand out piece in any respectable collection!
Just like to say THANK YOU for being so honest and passionate about your reviews. I have never enjoyed watching reviews as much as I love watching yours. VERY RARELY do I actually disagree with you on anything, and the ones I have had issues with are more about a slightly askew view on the topic. However, it has not been a major issue for me. There have been times and videos I wish I could have been able to sit down and have a discussion on a topic, an honest discussion on a different point of view, not an argument like it seems most want to do. I hope you can keep this channel going and Growing, For those that LOVE collecting.
I agree with you 110%. The fans are making the stuff that we want. This REALLY started back in the mid 90's with the Resin Garage Kit hobby. Which sprang from the 60's monster kids collecting the Aurora monster model kits. I personally have been making repro vinyl decals for many toylines for the last 15 + years. Love you vids!
That is an awesome Viper! I would ask my parents to buy me one and would have enjoy hours of play time back in the day with it! Robert did an incredible job!
Wow! I ordered mine after seeing your video. BANG ON REVIEW! My Viper came very quickly and it was packed superbly. Well worth the cost and the short wait. Love your channel and the honest opinions good and bad.👍
Im over 50 and i still collect action figures! I enjoy customizing my figures and display them. I don't collect for money tho. I collect cause i love the old retro figures. I take my figures out of their packaging and actually play with them.
If 3D printer-ownership becomes ubiquitous, it could revolutionise the toy industry. Consumers could purchase the designs online and print them at home. No tooling, shipping or warehousing; no restrictions on what toys to make; no exploitation of workers; no loss for failed movies or trend changes; an ever-expanding catalogue.
This is why Copyright should never have been extended for so long! Nobody should have private ownership of culture for so long. Why should a company own culture for 95 years? Why should individuals own culture that we all enjoy for 70 years after death? See a Corporation DOESN'T give a shit about history or culture and would destroy their own history to make a buck, as you pointed out Michael they don't care about preservation at all. The fans make what Corporations will not because they don't make maximum profits. Unauthorized culture FTW! Just look at the Hong Kong transformer toys Hell some pieces of media only exist now because of piracy, see Nosferatu Edit: it's also really nice to see Michael enthused after so many videos of him dealing with nonsense people
It's just awesome that someone did this. I just wished Mattel had done this when I was a kid. As kids my friends and I would sometime intergrate other action figure toylines like Star Wars, Micronauts, and Adenture People in our playtime because the figures and vehicles were close to scale with each other. I had the Viper and Cylon Raider, but never used them with when playing with the 3 3/4 figures. Plus with the figures being made smaller to fit in the ships they were lost as easy as those firing missiles. Trendmasters did the same thing with the Lost In Space and ID4 movie toys making the playsets and vehicles out of scale with the figures. You think they would have learned from Mattel's mistake. I know that Battle Star Galactica wasn't as big as Star Wars ,but I think having properly scaled vehicles would have generated more interest and playability with other toy lines . They made a scaled eggship for the Mork action figure which is basically a Battlestar Galactica figure with a slightly different head scuplt so I know they could have made a Viper and Cylon Raider. If they had made properly scaled vehicles they more than likely would have made a different design choice for the Cylon figure since he had those non moveable legs.
I agree with you on everything that you said that toy companies don't know what their customers want all they care about is the bottom line and it's awesome that fans of the various franchises know what fans want and that's what they give and I appreciate what they do and I hope to see more because that is the future toy companies will eventually have to submit to these fan-based companies or whatever because it's not how much money you make it's the quality of the toys that you create that brings back memories very cherish memories of a childhood that you enjoyed
This was interesting. As technology improves, individuals gain the ability to do amazing things that in the past were possible only for large organizations. These days, amateur astronomers are taking better pictures of Jupiter from here on Earth than the early Pioneer probes took from close up in the 1970s. It's really exciting.
I can never understand how companies when they are making toys make so many ignorant mistakes by taking adults forgranted. So many just plain idiotic blunders in toy lines that it takes fans to actually fix thier mistakes for them. My hats off to the creators of this toy, I think it's great for the hobby and collectors across the globe! Fans are just plain smarter than most toy companies. They're more attuned to what collectors want. The best toys and action figures were made in the 70s and mostly the 80s. The only way to get good toys for the most part are from fan creators , period. Big toy companies are way out of touch with fans, kids and adults. All it would take is one fan creator to show the big companies how to do it. Hasbro is a joke right now. The action figures on the market today are ridiculously poor and ill contrived. I enjoy what Robert is doing. I'm excited for more of this!
I have been watching retroblasting for years and while I don't always agree with Michaels opinions or outlooks, I 100% agree that the future of "vintage" toys - if that makes sense - is going to be from the collector community itself. I say that both as a professional in the toy industry, and as a hobbyist who also makes toys like the viper. etc. The good stuff will come from the fans who really love the properties.
Man that is one hell of a squadron with all those fighters lined up like that! Quite the sweet toy really wish something like that was around in those times of yore.
Just about THE coolest fanmade (should have been MATTEL made) toy ever! Fan......tastic. I WANT ONE....OR TWO...... or a squadron. Yep.......a squadron.
Hey .... You X's Are not the only one's that like to collect items like that . I'm a " Boomer " I have a few thing that I've collected from my early years . Star Trek ( tos ) , Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea , Los't in Space , Batman ( tos ) , GI Joe's ( 60's ) and so on . What I miss is the items that you have ( even though I was in my twenties when these show's aired ) I didn't know that there were item's like this until long after . By then it was too late to get any figures and ships and if by chance I did come across any it would be after I paid my rent and bills and not enough to try to put it on layaway . I also missed out on the Star Wars figures . But what I really miss is the " Major Mat Mason " collection . " Thanks So Much Mom " Everytime we moved the stuff that I was going to keep always got lost in the move .
I literally said the words "people in their 50s and 60s as well." I guess you didn't hear that. Don't worry. Your generation is still the center of the universe.
This is one of the greatest toys I've ever seen. OMG that will indeed fill the void on my BSG shelf! I sent you an email and hope I don't miss out! Thank you so much for bringing this beauty to light!
My laptop screen cannot contain Michael's enthusiasm for this.
You're enthusiasm is infectious and I can see why, what an incredible toy. Thank you for bringing this to our attention Michael.
he kind of reminds me of that TH-cam video of that kid opening up that in 64 and being super excited
Don’t ever apologize for passion mate.

That missile appears to be un-swallowable too. That one ups Mattel.
So when are we getting the 2 part Battlestar Galactica review now?
"Unswallowable."
Challenge accepted.
Ha ha ha ha! But in all seriousness, I see what you mean. Un-swallow-able enough to hopefully sell in the current litigious retail environment!
I used to make Vipers out of Legos! It's great to see that someone created this.
cardboard glue and paint I can’t tell you how many XWing and speeders I have made out of cardboard

ROTFLMFAO!! I said the SAME thing when I was little!! I had half a box of Cookie Crisp spread out on the table one day making a cylon invasion.

I love those fan made toys, and Battlestar Galactica never looked better than this.
RB I adore You for showing this kind of fan made toys. So cool.
I’ve never watched BattleStar Galactica. But it’s fun to watch you enthusiastically review this vehicle.
Robert Pearson Yes. 👍🏻
That is a work of art Michael
Hey .... You X's
Are not the only one's that like to collect items like that .
I'm a " Boomer " I have a few thing that I've collected from my early years .
Star Trek ( tos ) , Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea , Los't in Space , Batman ( tos ) , GI Joe's ( 60's ) and so on .
What I miss is the items that you have ( even though I was in my twenties when these show's aired )
I didn't know that there were item's like this until long after . By then it was too late to get any figures and ships and if by chance I did come across any it would be after I paid my rent and bills and not enough to try to put it on layaway .
I also missed out on the Star Wars figures .
But what I really miss is the " Major Mat Mason " collection .
" Thanks So Much Mom "
Everytime we moved the stuff that I was going to keep always got lost in the move .
I literally said the words "people in their 50s and 60s as well." I guess you didn't hear that. Don't worry. Your generation is still the center of the universe.

You've got that right
And I've got the Star Ships to prove it .
And you're right I jumped the gun on your enthusiasm .
This is one of the greatest toys I've ever seen. OMG that will indeed fill the void on my BSG shelf! I sent you an email and hope I don't miss out! Thank you so much for bringing this beauty to light!
What a time to be alive.
The missing toy is a transforming scale size verity has from Robotech isn’t it? I have always wanted that too
I agree, always wanted a fully transformable Veritech Figther. Guess will have to start mapping that out in Blender :)
*faints*
Wrong: it’s a fully transformable M.A.S.K Shark. But I know it’s in the works 👍 By a fan of course! 😁
