The Samadhi of Ranjit Singh is a 19th-century building in Lahore, Pakistan that houses the funerary urns of the Sikh Maharaja Ranjit Singh (1780 - 1839). It is located adjacent the Lahore Fort and Badshahi Mosque, as well as the Gurdwara Dera Sahib, which marks the spot where the fifth guru of Sikhism, Guru Arjan Dev, died. It overlooks the Hazuri Bagh, built by Ranjit Singh, to its south.
Construction of the building was started by his son, Kharak Singh on the spot where he was cremated, and was completed by his youngest son, Duleep Singh in 1848.
The funerary urns were removed from the marble pavilion and were replaced by a simple slab around 1999. This was done as part of the preparations for the Khalsa Tricentenary and the visit of Sikh dignitaries from India. It has been kept well by Pakistani government. The Samadhi was damaged by an earthquake in 2005 but was repaired soon.
The building combines elements of Sikh, Hindu, and Islamic architecture. Portions of the building are believed to have been plundered from the adjacent Lahore Fort.
The building has gilded fluted domes and cupolas, and an ornate balustrade around the upper portion of the building. The front of the doorway has images of Ganesh, Devi and Brahma that are cut from red sandstone. The dome is decorated with Naga (serpent) hood designs - the product of Hindu craftsmen that worked on the project. The wooden panels on the ceiling are decorated with stained glass work, while the walls are richly decorated with floral designs. The ceilings are decorated with glass mosaic work.
Ranjit Singh's ashes are contained in a marble urn in the shape of a lotus, sheltered under a marble pavilion inlaid with pietra dura, in the center of the tomb. Surrounding him, in smaller urns, are the ashes of four sati queens and seven concubines.
The Gurdwara Dera Sahib is adjacent to the samadhi, and commemorates the spot where Guru Arjan Dev Ji died.
Two small monuments to the west of the main building commemorate Maharaja Ranjit Singh's son Maharaja Kharak Singh and grandson Nau Nihal Singh, along with their wives. The building is located adjacent to Gurdwara Dera Sahib, the place where martyrdom of Guru Arjun took place.

I see history as a student and not as a Muslim who hates Ranjit Singh or a Hindu who hates Aurangzeb Alamgeer . I only see and read history to feel the past mistakes and achievements made by the rulers in terms of their behaviour with their subjects that's all.

With the exception of Akbar, Ranjit Singh, Bahadur Shah Zaffar and Sher Shah Suri all other Moghul rulers were criminals and not the Mislims that Prophet Mohammad will like; Aurangzeb, Jahangir and other Moghul kings killed thier own siblings and parents. Aurangzeb killed Muslim Sufi Saint mercilessly not to mention the non-muslims and forcible conversions to Islam. Under the name of neutrality and history we should not compare apples with oranges. Islam, Prophet Mohammad, and Allah are lovable to all humanity. We should not glorify criminals from our past. My suggestions to South Asian Muslim brothers and sisters are that Kings / Queens in this case Moghuls and British colonials had nothing to do with Islam or Christianity. They had their agenda and misused religions. The south Asian Muslims should not be proud of Moghul Kings, but they should be proud of Islam, Prophet Mohamad, and Allah. Everybody knows what Moghuls and other mostly (so called) Muslim invaders did and that should not be associated with Islam or any other religion. They were bunch of morons; Prophet Mohammad will not like them. Famous Punjabi saying: Tappon Raj, Rajonn Narak. ਤਪੋਨ ਰਾਜ ਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਤੋਂ ਨਰਕ Rabb Rakha

@@gurmeethanjra9585 I do agree that Aurangzeb killed his brothers and his policies led to the downfall of the empire but at the same time during his death in 1707 Sub Continent's GDP was number 1 in the world .
So I also don't agree with people saying he was a saint etc . Aurangzeb ( Mughals were ) was just a ruler he had nothing to do with Islam as you rightly said . I also don't glorify them whether Aurngzeb , Jahangir , Akbar , Babar or Shah Jahan because they ruled for themselves and not for the Almighty .
Ashoka also killed his 100s of brothers for the throne of Magadh but his policies strenghthened the empire . Whether it is Ranjit Singh or Aurangzeb Alamgeer their religion and get ups are not relvence in my sight I only see their deeds and I found that all of them were greedy of power .

Gillani sb you are a true historian who exhibits facts whether liked by people are not. It is said that fact remains fact and cannot change, however my suggestion is to just confine to the location with its details only so that feelings of some one are not hurt. No one is perfect in this world and in every religion many came with different characteristics and will be dealt accordingly at the day of judgment. Allah Bless you to keep us abreast with history.

I understand your point, but the problem is that we are no longer religiously open minded. Admitting a mistake does not diminish one's dignity, but instead of admitting it, we try to justify it. One thing I often say is that history is very cruel and it has no religion. Be it a Sikh or a Muslim king, everyone has made mistakes. You tell me how to hide it.
