Spectrum is pretty decent this time round. Now the Apple II, there's a port! lol it is actual genius, the music, the way the sprites move and look......top notch entertainment
I only ever played the NES version, but I love how the arcade versions are graphically different for the US and Japan to accurately represent the cultural differences! That is so cool!
Spectrum version looks strangelly serious compared with it's counterparts for me, I like it.
Being an American, these comparisons are always a curiosity to me. Micro PC's weren't exactly huge here, for gaming. On top of that, I only knew one person with a Master System, and another with an Amiga. Literally everyone had the NES. The one that always gets me is the Speccy. You European folks love that thing. Is it nostalgia or am I missing something. I'm asking constructively. It's not a shot.
The Speccy was a very early computer which was the most affordable, in a time (1982) when computing was for people with cash. It brought computing to so many people who grew up programming with it (Rare etc). At this time the main console was the Atari. As an aside, the Commodore 64 sold it's most units in the USA.
I first played this game with the japanese arcade version, i loved it. I then played the other western Renegade versions. My favourites are the Master System port, the Amstrad one, the ZXSpectrum one, and maybe the NES version.
Even if Renegade is officially a Kunio-kun reskin/localization/port, are the differences significant enough to make it a different game entirely? I've beaten the arcade version on Anstream using absolutely shameless levels of save scumming, and I have an interest in exploring the Kunio-Kun series along with the two Renegade sequels, so I'd like to know an answer to this. The two Renegade sequels (Target: Renegade and Renegade III) are definitely not Kunio-Kun games. But should Renegade be slated to that series separately from Kunio-kun? Not being a version purist who considers localizations to be games unrelated to their parent titles or series, but I'm just asking here.
Fun fact, my old speccy version has got a move that my amstrad friends haven't, on speccy, you can easily pass 1st n 2nd level by lunch foes out of the limits
Spectrum version is the first version I ever played (and the only one until fairly recently). My frame of reference is based on that version so anything else feels a bit wrong. Target Renegade is brilliant but the third one (time travel? really?) was pretty ropey.
I usually prefer Japanese versions of games. Most the time I prefer Famicom versions over NES versions. Powerblade and Renegade are exceptions. I like the USA 1950’s atmosphere over the Kunio Kun Japanese atmosphere. It’s unique especially because it’s also something different from the westernized arcade.
I'm impressed with the sms version lots of fast smooth animations, great sprite work, nice details and very colorful.
Amstrad version looks so good considering the limitations of the machine.
I'm glad you included the Kunio-Kun versions.
SMS was a surprise. Looks pretty good.
Sadly it doesn’t play very well.
In this game the smallest is the better!! The spectrum version is the best game ever made in the spectrum of this type...
Nah
@@PharoahsKingdom yes. The speccy version was better than the nes and master system versions.
Oof, that Amiga version is rough! How come the 8 bit versions managed to retain the speed of the game, but the 16 bit ones didn't?
For a 1987 game, the Famicom represents itself admirably.
Spectrum is pretty decent this time round. Now the Apple II, there's a port! lol it is actual genius, the music, the way the sprites move and look......top notch entertainment
Yeah the Apple II port had me surprised.
My favourites: Amstrad CPC and Sega Master System
Awesome videos! Great work, love this channel!
That CPC version is very impressive, both graphics and sound.
thanks for this beatifuly versions comparison video
This could’ve been perfect for the megadrive
Atleast we got the godlike master system version
6:36 ... ... how can a speccy port exist with less than 1/2 the framerate???
Omg...that Apple ll version looks like pure struggle 😫😫😫
Atari and NES/Famicon are the two versions I remember playing as a kid. ❤
Blooming game. I think I managed to successfully load this on my Spectrum four times, out of countless attempts! :D
That apple II version... The enemies look frightening 😮
1:12 the best version
Kunio 😠👍
I only ever played the NES version, but I love how the arcade versions are graphically different for the US and Japan to accurately represent the cultural differences! That is so cool!
American arcade has you rescuing your girlfriend, Japanese arcade has you standing up for your friend.
Spectrum version looks strangelly serious compared with it's counterparts for me, I like it.
for once the CPC version is the best apart from the arcade one.
Holy shitballs!
Up until today I only ever knew about the NES version.
Loved it on c64 and arcade
why are you fighting zombies in the apple port
Atari ST is slightly better than the Amiga here as it runs a bit quicker. The Amiga is like 5 fps.
The cpc version has recently been overhauled and now features smooth scrolling and the dash

Too bad alot of Amiga ports didn't get the attention they needed during development.
I first played this game with the japanese arcade version, i loved it. I then played the other western Renegade versions. My favourites are the Master System port, the Amstrad one, the ZXSpectrum one, and maybe the NES version.
Speccy smashed it out of the park with this port .

Amstard version is the best
apple 2? Damn looks like a horror movie XD
ahaha
River City Girls 0 1 and 2 are next to do!
great work
@01:12 Six piece no biscuit
Fun fact, my old speccy version has got a move that my amstrad friends haven't, on speccy, you can easily pass 1st n 2nd level by lunch foes out of the limits
The C64 version has been the first video game I've ever played
Cool, the Best Arcade
For my taste, the best 8-bit version is the one from Amstrad. And the Amiga version is impressive with better sound than the arcade itself
Spectrum version is the first version I ever played (and the only one until fairly recently). My frame of reference is based on that version so anything else feels a bit wrong. Target Renegade is brilliant but the third one (time travel? really?) was pretty ropey.
was Renegade 3 The Final Chapter ropey as in too long or poor quality?
@@jasonlee7816 Poor quality. There are plenty of videos on here that talk about it.
pvfcsanta if you only played the Spectrum version why does anything else feel wrong?
Arcade and ZX Spectrum version wins (the japanese version of the arcade game is cooler than the western one). Amiga version is overrated IMO.
Amstrad version is the best of 8 bits computers ;)
Sega Master System = best 8-bit port
Amstrad=blood
Amiga version? Overrated? Nobody is willingly defending the Amiga version of Renegade, it sucks
Let’s Compare Renegade
1: Arcade (1986)
2: Arcade (Jp) (1986)
3: Zx Spectrum (1987)
4: Amstrad Cpc (1987)
5: Commodore 64 (1987)
6: Thomson Mo/to (1988)
7: NES (1988)
8: NES (Jp) (1987)
9: Amiga (1988)
10: Atari St (1988)
11: Pc Dos (1988)
12: Apple 2 (1989)
13: Master System (1993)
nice
I'm a fan of the farty music in the C64 version
Too bad the PC-Engine didn’t get a port considering how awesome their arcade ports usually were.
1993 best 🇧🇷 eu ja joguei, mas nunca zerei😁
The Amiga version looks like it is a crappy ST port. Shame.
either Ocean Software or Software Creations did it
they were known for doing bad, lazy, rushed ports
@@jasonlee7816 Software Creations iirc
Best versions are c64 and Sega MS
Atari st and nes are better than Apple 2? wild!
Kunio!
pity you didn't have japanese port of renegade on ps2.supposed to just like arcade
1º Arcades
2º Master System
3º NES
16:75 zombies
I think the original japanese version is better in my opinion
I usually prefer Japanese versions of games. Most the time I prefer Famicom versions over NES versions. Powerblade and Renegade are exceptions. ATR Commodore 64 k
Javo 🇦🇷
apple IIe version, smh...
The Spectrum port is overrated garbage and is only praised by those fanboys who haven't played a good game to save their lives
i played the C64 version
i might played SMS port
Amiga/ST best versions
