Spent many many hours both watching and also riding on the footplate. It was Gwyneth, Hurricane and Respite that were operational when I was going down there, in the loco shed there was Spitfire and Rodney both awaiting scrapping.
I used to visit this colliery with my dad. We used to watch the steam activity from the perpetually smoldering embankment. Nice film, brought back the memories.
Respite is now at Rubble Steam Railway, Preston Docks. I am hoping to visit this railway on Easter Sunday and hopefully get to see her again after many years although I believe she is in bits awaiting restoration.
