Actually, while Bo regularly talks out against pandery manipulative people, he also speaks openly about deferring to wiser or more knowledgeable people. Maybe its not exactly the same thing, so that's fair.

The 'IV drip' simile is perfect for his situation. It goes to show that its okay to let your career quiet down a bit if that means you're given the space and freedom to finish and polish your work, rather than regurgitate everything you come up with constantly to keep your fanbase pulse beating.

I remember loving TH-cam in 2006, and I wonder if I fell out of it because of the overwhelming amount of content I was trying to consume. It eventually got out of my hands as I was spending hours trying to keep up, and I decided I wanted to have a life outside of my computer screen.

+Xolcin Yeah.... I haven't gotten to that point yet. I've been homeschooled my whole life and it's really hard to stop watching TH-cam. It's like an addiction and every couple of weeks I find a new person that I want to watch every video of theirs. And then I just keep going back each day. I'm hoping one day when I have to actually do stuff in life, then I will slow down. But I think without TH-cam I would probably go crazy. Props to you for being able to do that lol.

How many beloved comedians have been popular enough to be given weekly shows and destroyed their popularity anyways with rushed "fast food" content.

I'm glad that he thinks the same thing as me. I've been writing a novel for seven years now, and my friends that recently found out about it told me, "oh, with how fast you can write, I'm surprised you haven't released at least ten books already in this year alone..." They are trying to push me to publish my novel now, but I'm like, "it's not ready yet. I need it to be perfect before I show it to the world!"
    Quality over quantity.

and because that's what TH-cam's algorithm supports. in order to stay relevant and keep appearing in search results, content creators must upload regularly and in long length, and this contributes to the problem.

fuck. this really spoke to me as a guitarist that tries to write songs. I was a year behind you at the Prep!! one day at lunch we were at the table that had all the napkins, salt, ketchup and shit. the dispenser was broken so they basically had a tub of ketchup with a ladle. I was behind you waiting to get some. idk if you even knew I was there but for a solid 30 seconds, you proceeded to slowly move the ladle in and out and in and out of the ketchup. it was my only interaction with you (I saw a play with you once, you were in a boat and the storm was bashing you, it was pretty impressive how good you were). very strange but I guess there ain't nothing wrong with that. congratulations on all of your success. it seems like you want to give it away, but I would kill for that many people to think I'm special. to decide they want to waste their valuable time listening to me. idk, I'm rambling.
you're doing a great job. performance is groundbreaking and your wit seems bottomless. keep on being you and most importantly, be happy!

He did regularly release youtube videos for years though before he got to a place where he could release videos of 90 minute shows and actually have people watch them. He wasn't all over tv or anything, but still he gave an iv drip of content to build his fame to the point where his current approach of large solo projects released years apart is actually practical.

I have a ton of respect for Bo Burnham, he's an idol of mine actually, but the thing is when you're trying to get noticed early on, you kind of have to grind and put yourself out there, because unless you're really lucky, you'll just get drowned out by everyone else who's also trying to get attention.
He got his start very early on, but now TH-cam and the internet is so oversaturated and competitive that your chances of getting noticed by just releasing something you worked hard on every year or so are very slim. Once you have a stable platform with a reliable audience, then you can ease up on the grind. Until then, it's always good to have bigger projects that you work on for a long time, but you also have to put out smaller stuff consistently and fight the algorithm to get an audience that'll even look at your passion project.
    Again, unless you get lucky
