Archaeology is soul crushing. I did it after college and it was basically a scramble to extract as much cultural and historical data from sites before they were residentially developed. Just a couple days ago I drove past a French encampment I helped excavate near Yorktown and it was crummy townhouses.
I received some advice that stuck with from my Archeology Professor a one Dr. Charlie Eyman almost 50 years ago and what he said was when looking at data try to remove any preconceived ideas that you have and really listen to what the data is telling you.

Learning about how it actually works in real life is so fascinating because studying ancient cultures, artifacts, societies, and humans, showing us how complex and intricate the ancient world really was.
Professor Dave, could you make a video about the philosophy of treatment of nonhuman animals and society’s double standard of considering it unethical for Elwood’s Organic Dog Meat Farm to slaughter dogs for dog meat and dog milk while condoning the slaughter of other animals for identical reasons?
I actually once had to excavate remains of a festival as well when we were working on two houses from a medieval village 😅 just one camping spot with buried trash though. Many tins and some ketchup bottles....I think from the 70s/80s. Of course we treated the stuff like other finds and documented it 😂 would like to know what happened with them.

New subscriber here. This came up on my feed, so very lucky for me! Took both Anthropology and Archeology in college, more years ago than I care to think to. Have always been interested in these branches of science. Very happy to be learning more.

You should bring @Miniminuteman over to collab to this series. Having you two collab would be awesome 😁
Please! A double Googledebunkery!

Waiting for the day Miniminuteman has had enough and hands over Filip Zieba to Professor Dave so he can get banished into the shadow realm.
Flint Dibble is a better choice
They're already in works for it. They comment on each other's vids too.
As an archaeologist, I am impressed. Great work

50 years? So you're telling me within the next 10 to 20 years, old video game consoles like the NES are going to be considered artifacts?
XD there was a project for excavating the Woodstock festival area ^^ so who knows

I'm a little confused by the 50-year distinction. Does that mean most stuff in antique stores are "archeological?"
Technically yes, they’re artifacts. However they’ve been removed from their original context, so they’ve lost a lot of scientific power behind them.
They are considered historic. Which is an important distinction
