I think think The Black and White Minstrel Show was a very happy colourful show. Those who have condemned it were making mountains out of molehills. It was considered respectable in its time.
@@annoldham3018 It fared surprising well in the archives, perhaps back in the day more were retained as it sold very well overseas, given the fact episodes could more or less be seen in any order and aside from Christmas episodes there would be very little contemporary references that'd immediately be of issue. I've seen comments from some viewers that the show was still being repeated abroad well into the 1980's.

Pam Ayres used to live on the 🇮🇲 Isle Of Man. Sometimes I wonder why more famous people haven’t moved there, considering it has been described as Britains most popular tax haven.
Och, I missed the Premiere - put the wrong date on my calendar. A 45-minute senior moment, methinks! Anyway, I caught up before midnight in bed but found it difficult to concentrate as the lip sync was out, with sound trailing behind the image. On checking today I find all is well, so assume the action travelled direct from my modem while the sound track took a more leisurely route crawling up the stair! I tuned in to Chat and saw poor Aeon practically on his ownsome. Perhaps everyone else was at work - or forgetful like me. A great start with the silent movies tribute, then along came Don MacLean. Oh dear, perhaps I am in the minority but this is not my kind of humour. Fast Forward! The BBC must have run out of money as the same set was used throughout, apart from a few extra props now and then. A theatre performance rather than the normal television spectacular. I doubt if the illuminated panels would be allowed nowadays, as the slope could have caught the heels of cast members walking down the steps. Although I know at least 90% of the music on Minstrel shows, having lived through most of it, the unfamiliar Dutch sequence was a refreshing change. As for 'Call Me Madam', this is very topical when the Hostess with the Mostest has a large amount in her bank account when election time comes round. 'Nuff said!

I think the haters just didn’t get it, it was a positive show👍🏻
Cannot wait. Looks fantastic.
Another great show. Thanks.
I'm amazed how many there are given the show is now seen as so controversial. I remember this one! I was only 9 but could remember Pam Ayres poem.

Who’s the men at 15:45 ? I love his deep voice . I always wonder who he was .
He is called Les Rawlings.

I reckon
the minstrel to the right of Ted Darling in the "George Mitchell Conducts" looks like he's 12
