I am Ghanaian in liberian, and my man is Nigerian Igbo He love my Liberian and Ghanaian dish, but I’m trying my best now to learn how to cook some igbo food nd this is great
I am familiar with this dish coz i grew up in nsukka but i prefer how we eat it in the village which is cooking the ede(cocoyam) overnight outside in ite ona. Then we make ncha(palmoil, salt, pepper, limestone) to eat with it. #heaven
O yes Kene! And that's a completely different dish. Sooo delicious! My grandma prepared the type of thick ncha that is used to eat cocoyam in my "Eating Traditional Igbo Food" video: th-cam.com/video/LFodjn7RizE/w-d-xo.html. In the same pot that the cocoyam is cooked we usually have Ona (bitter yam) and Ji Kpuru Kpuru (tiny pieces of yam that look like cocoyam). Chai ooo, there's food in Igboland! And Kene ... Nanka, grew up in Nsukka, I think I know your Mum. I met her through my Mum. Soft spoken, beautiful lady, worked in Admissions at some point? If yes, it's a small world indeed.
I absolutely love Achicha ede, especially with fio fio😋😋. My mum just posted some to me all the way to the UK, that's how I love it 😅. Well done sis Flo, just that u always make me want to eat my phone watching u prepare those mouth watering delicacies😭😭
Scilla you must love it as much as I do! The traditional foods I ask my Mum to gather for me, eh? Even she marvels at some of them. :D :D For some of them she needs to go to specific local markets in other towns to find them. Biko with this one, there will be no eating of phone because you have the ingredient. Thank you. :)
Wow wow home sweet home. How I miss home. I am from Nsuka and this is one of our best dishes and is not complete with out that breans we call it ( Egedegbn ) thank for shearing. 👍👍👍👍👍
At home we prepare this dish with akidi (cowpea) instead of the vegetable. Mum makes sure it's rich in protein to balance the meal. 👏👏 Flo I love your channel. 💕
Flo what about MBIRI? I hated it and Achicha Ede when I was younger but come to appreciate them now. Very good foods especially for the Diabetics. Less starchy. Good jobs my beloved.
Flo Achicha Ede is one food I can tell you that I have not tired. I am ashamed especially because I am a foodie. Well I will be on the hunt for it when I go to Atlanta next weekend. Thank you once again for this beautiful recipe.
Chibuike no need for shame in this one because there are many foods in Igboland alone and we will never know or try all of them. Sadly some of them are going extinct. My quest is to hopefully document all of them so that even if they go extinct, we will be watching the videos for years to come. I promise to at least try making the achicha ede with the type of cocoyam that I can buy here. If I am happy with the results, I will upload.
Aunty Flo, please can you show us more 'Igbotic' recipes? I LOVE THEM!!! I am Hausa oo, but my husband is Igbo (he is from Anambra) so I have to learn. I would love to make this for him, but we live in North Carolina so I do not even know where to start from.
Nice! This is vegan and African! A lot of dishes are meat heavy usually. I need to visit an Igbo village and chop some, because I'm not sure if I can get the ingredients where I am.
Aunty Flo, indeed u are wonderful!!!😀😀😀 you have a natural way of cooking like my grandmum😊. Achicha ede is a lovely food i even enjoyed at my childhood and that is exactly the way you deed it. but am surprised that u know this recipe because its mainly from Enugu & Ebonyi State. U are a complete all rounder Igbo Woman!! keep it on👍👍Kudos!!!!!
Ehh? I know my Enugu friends eat it, they call it Agbugbu or something like that but good to know that Ebonyi State people eat it too. Nne, it is popular in my home town o, I don't know about other Anambra towns. Thank you, your compliments mean a lot. :) You are awesome.
Fio Fio melu mmadu ife! I remember my Mum forcing us to eat that, me that hated and still hates beans not to talk of fio fio which is advanced beans. LOL Thank you NG.
Good Afternoon Dear Sister...well... it's probably almost evening for you. I hope you and your family are well, I would love to try this recipe. My daughter has a class mate who is from Nigeria and she told me what African Market her parents shop at so I have finally found one here in Philly🤗.
Good day Stephanie! We are all good thank you so much for asking. :) I hope you and yours are doing great. I am dancing that you found an African Market there. Let the cooking begin. I wonder if they will have Achicha Ede there, this is very very traditional. But yes, now you can try other meals. :)
From my experience using kale (it was bitter and fibrous), I would say no. But if you like kale, go ahead and use it or any other leafy green you fancy.
Hi Flo, thanks for all your videos and cooking demo, I really enjoy them as I have learnt a lot from you. Just want to ask if one can add fio fio alongside the spinach. The way I learnt from my grandma, she doesn't add spinach but I think I love the spinach. Thanks for all you do. Love you loads. Nky
So the dry cocoyam is not slimy... interesting! By the way, i did try the oiless tomato stew!!! It was excellent! Thank you so much Flo!!!!! I love these more frequent videos
I'm glad Nanoubonbon. Thanks for always watching. Like Kene wrote, the cocoyam is boiled for about 1 hour the first day (you will still see the slime at that time) then left to sit overnight. The next day you continue with the boiling till it turns pink and the slime has disappeared. At that time you can actually eat it like yam without it irritating your throat. Then slice and dry.
Hello i liked the way it looked and wanna try oooo pls can u try to list ur ingredientst thanks down for is easier to go buy or order incase since am not a Nigerian girl thanks
Special request and No rush needed. Flo, can you please make a video of how to make the dried Achicha Ede? I know I can get Coco-yam where I live just in case I am not able to get the Achicha Ede (Cocoyam Flakes) from Farmers Market. Thank you.
Chibuike I will try as soon as possible. I will watch this summer to see how hot the sun gets. It really needs very hot sun! I will raise my two hands for that Farmers Market if you can buy it there. 💃💃💃
Achicha ede is healthy. Ede is low in carbohydrate, which means it will not raise your blood sugar subsequently control your body fat and keep your westline 32". Very healthy food.
It does look like minced meat! Especially after the minced meat has been stir-fried like when making meat pies. That's why I love other cultures contributions to this channel - fresh eyes. I would never have thought about describing it like that but that is apt. Thank you Yasmin. :)
Nne, I must confess, your TH-cam food channel makes me hungry everyday. If I begin cooking these meals everyday, I could definitely add some weight. Lol
You don't add crayfish? That is a must for my own achicha and i add maggi knorr too. I also prepare my ukpaka separately like i am making nkwobi and then add it to it.
lol Kosite I am not a big fan of crayfish and the achicha ede itself has this natural smokey flavour that crayfish ruins for me. And seasoning cubes? I leave it out when not absolutely necessary, clean eating things maka na mmadu agbadabago. 😂😂😂 Biko send the Jigbo video or at least a written recipe let me prepare, enjoy and upload for my TH-cam family to enjoy too. 😍😍😍
Catherine mmh now I am wondering if an oven will do a good job of drying the cooked cocoyam till bone dry. Cooked cocoyam is so soft, like dough and even if it is possible, I imagine it taking hours and hours in an oven. You can try it if you don't mind the possibility of this taking the whole day and consuming all that gas/electricity. I remember my grandma doing this only during harmattan, it's the perfect weather for it because sometimes ordinary sunshine does not cut it.
😂😂😂 @ elastic cooking time: African woman: cook for about 20-30 minutes. European: cook for 15 minutes 25 seconds 🤣🤣🤣 We no dey stress for Afrika 😅 Thank you so much for this yummy recipe. I'll definitely bring along some achicha ede next time I visit ALAIGBO. #IgboAmaka
Awww Chyoma, now next time you will not pass it by. :) This meal deserves to be tried at least once. I believe ndi Adazi should have it just that it is so traditional that this generation does not know much about it.
All Nigerian Recipes they may have it really. I remember my grandma has made one ede meal then but she used ede ofe which was cooked overnight abi for 24hrs so that it will not 'gbakaa onu mmadu' as she said 😂😂😂. I loved it but hei, that long cooking...mba a
It look good. Am surprised there are no obstacles. hahaha just kidding cos naija people love obstacles. Would love to try it one day, am not naija but it looks awesome.
