Great review. Funny because I actually emailed Slate a couple weeks ago to ask when they would be releasing FG-X2, and to make some feature requests more suited for mastering. They said it would be out soon and I'd be super happy with the update. Looks like they kept their word...and its free for all FG-X owners (which is respectable given how long they made us wait).
FINALLY!!! It took over a decade to fulfill this promise, but better late than never. Nothing could match how loud the original could make a master, but the sonic quality was kinda nasty. Hope this changes with v2. Thanks… downloading now!!
Cool vid, I"m a mix/mastering engineer. I love the Slate Limiter but I never use the compressor, I don't care for the compressor and choose to use other compressors and or parallel compression befpre the FGX 2 like , SSL Bus, Fairchild etc...But its worth it just for the Limiter.
Nice demonstration! Constant gain seem to not really work 100% well enough, imo Fabfilter limiter works better with that, but also not perfect. FGX2 seems to add a db or or loudness according my analyzer. I understand that as a plugin company you would err on louder than quieter of course. But I would only rely on offline lufs integrated normalization to A/B loudness, because it's kinda impossible to A/B if the plugin is not taking the whole song from start to finish in consideration, and what the tweaks would do to the whole song.
Im very curious what you think about the FG-X-2 vs your Bettermaker Limiter. This plugin seem to have a bit from al the popular limiters as the Fabfilter Limiter/Ozone 10 the Loudnessmeter looks a bit like the Nugen.
Question, inside of Studio One, if you’re mastering a project. Would you put this on each track or on the master channel ? To get the project to sound cohesive ?
Very nice indeed but it requires an iLok USB dongle for lifetime license.....that really sucks in 2022 and I hate subscriptions for VST plugins, when I really like then as my Go-Tos e.g. for my mastering chain
@@TzoHill From my perspective, In Ozone it is hard to get a good sounding. It offers really nice Dynamic EQ's and limiters but compared to FG-X2 the difference between these two is immersive. If you love to tweak your track a bit more you can stay with Ozone but I can assure that you have to know what to do in it to not sacrifice any transients or witness any distortion related to the Loudness.
@@TzoHill It seems like that so far. Just try it and determine what you need. If FGX benefits the way you want, use it but remember that even if you use it you need to make in-depth tweaks and adjustments to your track to make it better. Unfortunately mastering process isn’t easy 😂😉
I think you are hurting your audio...seems like you are beginner and dont know what are you doing...or what to do to make the sound more ummppphhh....its hurt...😂

thank god!
i wish they'd get rid of that ilok bs tho

You're amazing - this taught me so much man thank you. Song is so fire too!!
Thank you
A must have for sure
Dope plugin, dope mix and dope tutorial as always. The 808 is so pleasing to ear, maybe a tutorial on how to make it like the one in the mix?🙏🏻🙏🏻🔥🔥
Going to get this one ♥
Loved that many thanks brother

Master bus only. It’s a mastering plugin.
Use it in the project page of studio one
Very Informative:))
This has come far to late. I gave up waiting years ago I'm not buying another limited I'm happy with what I have
Plz tell me song name

don't wanna switch from ozone lol feeling too lazy , i am good with hardware units and ozone at master
I have ozone too and someone recommended this to me. Shall I stay with Ozone?

@@asrinuzaycoltu6973 interesting. Cos I've always found ozone kinda ruins my mixes for some reason.. is the FG beginner friendly/easier then?

@@asrinuzaycoltu6973 damn. 😂 appreciate the help 🙏
It's a decent limiter but you still need more than this plugin to get to -7 / -6 LUFS safely.
-10 LUFS? 😂 Every comercial song I review from mainstream singers are around -8 to -6 LUFS. I can achieve -10 LUFS with stock plugins.
You should do a video about it.

Thanks for the feedback. What would you do with the FG-X?
