@@Deedor72 I have also known a man and heard about many who abuse every girl they stay with sexually and to those who refuse he abuses them verbally until they wife comes to know of it all. Then he will be rough on the wife with threats. My advice is once you sense it early, come out quickly. Because later you will be bond to him. And relatives tend to find a reason to blame the wife .
And the former husband though still in prison is threatening to cause harm to her and the Engineer brother after release. So it is not yet over for her.

My considered view is that we need to pay greater attention to the family and the investment in virtues : humility, magnanimity, forbearance etc. Legal and para legal interventions certainly have a role to play but cannot sustainably be expected to address a problem of this scale which is possibly growing deeper and worse. We need to address it at the roots. Regrettably, from where I sit, many activists in this area disregard this approach or otherwise regard it as impractical or altogether unrealistic !

This story took me through a thousand emotions. I laughed, cried, got scared, and got motivated...It boggles my mind how one person could survive so much violence and still be so positive about life. Kudos to you my tribes mate and sister Harriet. Thanks for encouraging those that might be dealing with gbv. I also liked Rachel's comment at the start about someone that is showing red flags and makes you seem like the crazy one. I think we need an episode on gas lighting. Most gbv starts as love then gaslighting, before long one is trapped and nobody will believe them. Love you ladies and thanks for what you do.

One thing that wasn't mentioned is sometimes violence is linked to mental disorders that are never diagnosed.Narcissism, bipolar, Paranoia, inferiority complex and ofcourse childhood traumas of being raised in violent homes.Not that any of these excuse such inhumane behaviour.
Harriet's story has got me crying and somehow a trigger to me not necessarily with the physical hurt but I relate to it in a sexual way, I was raped in p5 and was scared to talk about it, lived with the anger for a long and by the time I talked about it there was nothing that could be done about it. When i was in college, the couple who lived above me used to fight. I could hear furniture being thrown around and the woman would cry and run out of the apt. Now, here in North America everyone minds their own buisness. One day i thought to myself this man might kill his wife and i will feel guilty for not doing anything yet i knew. I wrote a note on two sticky note pads explaning how i have for a long time heard the fights and banging. Then i concluded by saying if this continues i am going to call the police. My people, that beatings ended. Maybe they used to fight outside but the apartment was as quiet as a church mouse.

The sister was being battered seriously and she was being told guma guuma.... Anyway then you find the eduacted smart men who violate you quietly and steadily and you don't realise the abuse is going on because he has not beaten you. Harriet I applaud your courage, determination and strength. Domestic violence needs tobe taught in schools as many of us have tolerated it without knowing exactly whats happening. And my advice to anyone going through it is. 1-The only person you can control is yourself. 2-Ask yourself, what is it about me that attracts or allows such behaviour? 3-Once you get an answer to this , the rest will fall in place. 4- Never ask a victim of domestic violence why don't you leave, because they have surely tried to but because of one reason or another, they can't. 5- Instead, ask them how can I help. This is really heart breaking. I've been through emotional abuse (gaslighting) before from a narcissist but I didn't know until I searched on google and TH-cam what i was feeling and realized i wasn't running mad. I knew something was wrong but I didn't know what it was. The guy was gaslighting me.. I used to hear about gaslighting but I didn't really know what it was. I didn't know i was experiencing it.. i really pray that people become more kind to the people going through GBV.

I have a friend who went to police to report her husband for domestic violence. They asked her what she does for a living. She told them that she is an administrator. They told her that if she can be administer for over ten people how can she fail to administrate one person. I think police support domestic violence.

A boyfriend did all kinds of things to me and stupidly I was thinking it was love, getting a knife to cut my hair, spending some nights outside even when it was raining, going for my graduation party with a bruised eye mbu I had hit a wall. 1-The only person you can control is yourself.
2-Ask yourself, what is it about me that attracts or allows such behaviour?
3-Once you get an answer to this , the rest will fall in place.
4- Never ask a victim of domestic violence why don't you leave, because they have surely tried to but because of one reason or another, they can't.
5- Instead, ask them how can I help.
It's not as easy as u think.

This is really heart breaking.
I've been through emotional abuse (gaslighting) before from a narcissist but I didn't know until I searched on google and TH-cam what i was feeling and realized i wasn't running mad. I knew something was wrong but I didn't know what it was. The guy was gaslighting me.. I used to hear about gaslighting but I didn't really know what it was. I didn't know i was experiencing it.. i really pray that people become more kind to the people going through GBV.
While I was listening to Harriet's story, I could feel my blood pressure going up.

I have a friend who went to police to report her husband for domestic violence. They asked her what she does for a living. She told them that she is an administrator. They told her that if she can be administer for over ten people how can she fail to administrate one person. I think police support domestic violence.
