Since I passed my Board of Review last May and the current circumstances that we are in, I haven’t been able to have an Eagle Court of Honor! But as my brother is already working towards his Eagle, Im planning to wait it out so it will save my parents the stress of planning 1 instead of 2! And I’ll be sure to keep this in mind when planing the ECOH. My question is in terms of regular annual Courts of Honor, how can this be used towards the promotion of scouting?
Congratulations on your achievement of Eagle Scout. It is very courteous to wait for your brother. There are three facets to promoting scouting through an Eagle Scout Court of Honor. 1. Promoting Scout values to non-scout families that may attend. Not everyone in attendance at an Eagle Scout court of honor is associated with scouting. Reviewing the service project and how it helps the community is important in our service to others. 2. Promoting achievement to those coming up within the ranks. Being an example to your fellow scouts is a great way to inspire them to achieve high accomplishment such as Eagle Scout. 3. Promoting continuance of scout leadership. I know that when I get a heartfelt thank you from a scout who appreciates my leadership in helping them achieve. It makes me want to stay involved for others who also appreciate it. I know this is a lot of information that you may not be wanting with a short question. Unfortunately, it's the only way to answer it. Let me know what you think? YIS ⚜
I always had an "Eagle Nest" on stage made up of adults and scouts that were Eagle Scouts. On one occasion there were four scouts getting their Eagle. I built a fake camp fire. 5 of the adult leaders sat around the fire and took turns telling stories about some of our experience's with these scouts. These campfire experiences were really a big hit. We had everyone laughing. As a volunteer you will have many experiences. Once we were camping, we were discussing the plans for the next day when we heard some "chopping" off in the distance. We walked around the lake and saw one of our scouts using a hatched chopping down a 3" dia tree. The scoutmaster said, "Richard, what are you doing". The scout immediately stopped and raised the hatchet up in the air, and said, 'It isn't my axe".
This was very helpful! My troop was established in 2020 and I will be the first eagle! As I have never attended an eagle court of honor, it has been hard planning my own.
Many inspirational moments in life will live in your memory. Mom or Dad pinning the medal on for the first time, on a new Eagle Scout is special. Mom and Dad getting their Eagle Scout Parent pins is special too. ECOH is the place for inspiration for all Scouts and Scouters. I'm saddened by the Scouts who never get their moment on stage. I know of two Eagle Scouts who passed away before their ECOH and several Eagle Scouts who just never had one. ECOH is incredibly important. YIS⚜

LOL... Thank you so much for the campfire story. Many leaders can really relate to that. YIS⚜

What inspired me on becoming an Eagle Scout is when i saw my senior patrol leaders mother pinned the Eagle scout medal on him.
