I think that if he really wasn’t feeling comfortable to perform than he really should’ve not performed and we would’ve been understanding. But to cancel last minute plans, be an hour late, and only sing a couple songs is disappointing. To cancel a livestream for one of the BIGGEST headliners. Also, I hope he understood the level of anticipation was set high, cuz in the end, this is a festival that hundreds paid to see and come travel to… Frank is creative and amazing, if only he really was more organized, he really could’ve given the best performance of the night. Edit: he canceled week 2…
The Brad Pitt thing was after his divorce with Angelina, and he found Frank's music at the time to help him through the hardtime. I'm pretty sure Brad reached out to Frank to tell him and he asked him to join his performance.

I saw frank ocean at fyf fest in 2017. honestly, it was amazing. I've been to hundreds of concerts and dozens of festivals at this point and his set is still top 3. at the time, people in the crowd said we'd be lucky if he showed up. his antics have been known for a long time, he always shows up late if he does at all. it's a shame he's like this but knowing this as most fans do, you're gambling by waiting at that stage all day. I'd never do that. enjoy the festival that you paid for and never put all your eggs in one basket especially one as flaky as this. I'd guess the guy plays festivals bc he can flake out in comparison to his own arena show and no way a tour would ever happen. as much as an artist might want to play his music to a live audience it doesn't feel like he wants to and really should just release music if he wants to (I don't think he wants to do this either really).
Did anyone else see Justin Bieber made an Insta post praising frank ocean for his set and saying his performance inspired him as an artist and then turned the comments off? I feel like something is happening behind the scenes it’s all so weird
Apparently those people were walking around the stage because they were supposed to be dancers or figure skaters that were going to do some kind of choreographed performance as part of his show but then he decided against it at the last second so the skaters didn't know what to do so that's why they were walking around in circles apparently
I think there were a few things goin on and Frank tried his best to mitigate the negative consequences. He’s been awkward in live performances before, he’s human and maybe this whole time he’s not trying to be “elusive” he just has anxiety issues he doesn’t discuss. Also him cancelling his livestream was probably bc he feared due to the ankle injury and changing his whole set would make a less than stellar show. Finally, being at coachella was a daunting reminder of his brother who passed and since he was contractually obligated to perform in 2020 (contract was probably done while his brother was alive) he had to honor it in ‘23-which he did. I know I sound like a stan but I’m really just trying to reason it out with all the info out now.
Ok now go back to the start of his career and explain the consistent pattern of flaking on his fans since day 1. It's literally what hes known for at this point, way before an ankle injury or his brothers death. The pattern goes so much further back than 3 years
@@ruminationstation4200 ok and explain the beautiful music he’s been giving us going back years before that. I’ve seen him live yrs ago amazing show. Seriously… Metallica just put out an album. Give them the Sunday spot. They won’t even need to bring in their set. Just them, a stripped down stage, on the fly pyro and lights… boom.
Taylor Swift literally performed with a literal chunk of her skin missing because of an accident backstage at the Eras tour in Houston and live singing and dancing for 3+ hours with 44 songs WITHOUT missing a single note or a beat. There is a reason she is the biggest popstar in the world.
i read somewhere they had to melt the ice and that’s why it took so long to start the show, he completely changed everything last minute, and mostly lip synced songs (like no mic in hand). people really paid for a listening party. there’s also rumors it wasn’t live-streamed because they’re doing an HBO documentary on his return to music. (They may mention this stuff later in the video, but I haven’t gotten that far) I know his brother died a couple years ago and I would also still be struggling with that if I was him. So I’m sure it was a combo of things. I do feel for the attendees tho.
He only lip synced like 3 songs. The only people saying he lip synced most/all are the people that have been angry at Frank for YEARS for not releasing music- don’t pay attention to those weirdos. I’m not saying that excuses lip-syncing at all- it’s still weird and disrespectful. It’s possible there was a reason for it though, whether it be something out of his control or some sort of symbolism (since the 3 were some of his most popular songs, like Chanel that everyone uses on TikTok, and he tends to be a symbolic artist. For example, the whole reason he remixed all of his old songs for the performance is because he’d prefer people to focus on the experience over singing along. My personal assumption is that he was also hinting at what his upcoming music will sound like). Point is- we really don’t know the reasoning behind anything, and while the frustration is super valid (especially for the people that attended), I think we should be open to possibility instead of just assuming Frank hates his fans & chose to be lazy in his performance. I fully understand the assumption, but some people have explosive/unhealthy anger because of it. The openness to possibilities is necessary.

And then it just never did!! I feel lucky I saw him, it had so much build up the years before this set, this had so much potential to be incredible.. but he’s been such a musical hero for me, and now I listen to his music and it’s a bit tainted :( Hope he’s okay… but as a fan it was brutal. I feel so bad for his die hard fans who camped out all day waiting for just him… all for that. Love Frank but damn
I was there for the Brad Pitt moment they’re talking about and it was actually pretty cool because it coincided with an alternate version of Good Guy and Spike Jonze was doing the camerawork. Most LA moment of my life to this day
Honestly I don’t blame Frank. I see why people are upset but someone did say it was short but he did perform for more than an hour. They’re making it seem like he was out there for ten minutes. Again he said how his brother would drag him there. Coachella is happy moments with his brother. Grief doesn’t just go away over time. It’s only been 3years. I’m sure he felt a way after being there without his brother. It probably started to hit him harder.

I understand it can be disappointing but he lost his brother going on 3 years ago, Coachella was a place that brought memories for him that I’m sure was hard to process and just with the chaos in general. He even mentioned that but naaaah fuck a human beings grief right? For y’all to cash out on a festival for ONE person is absolutely a bad investment on y’all end. I'm neutral when it comes to Frank Ocean, but don't generally listen to his music. He did suffer an ankle injury, but not the day of the performance. Changing the set at least a day prior would've been way better than day of or hours before-how rude to production, the skaters, dancers, etc. To me, it seems like he generally just didn't care. He probably could've plopped a stool on that walkway, sat the whole performance and sang his little heart out lol. I'm sure fans would've appreciated that more and actually being able to visibly see him.
kanye at least respected his fans enough to cancel his set a week before the festival. like people who were going just for him could resell their tickets, no one would be standing in the desert for 12+ hours for a half assed set, and coachella was able to find a new performer for that time slot who could do a full show. really bad news when kanye cares about a group of people more than you

It wasn’t shit visually personally I think it was cool. Now he did sing I think the media is getting that part wrong he didn’t sang some songs. People who complaining about the rave wtf that’s what concerts are about you don’t know what to expect. That’s what makes concerts cool it’s a different experience every time. The real problem is him not addressing what happened and apologizing to the fans there. Personally I wasn’t there but do see the livestream and I liked it it was a whole relief searching IG, Twitter, Tik Tok. But I understand the peoples anger. But Coachella is also to blame here they didn’t tweet anything out and had to wait for TH-cam to tweet.
You didn't see the livestream. Frank didn't allow them to livestream his performance and was the only musician at Coachella 2023 Weekend 1 whose set wasn't livestreamed. Why are you lying?
I think regardless of what he would’ve done. Most people still would’ve hated it. The set design was like a concave rectangle with a light rack aiming both the audience and him and the whole idea of the huuuuge led screen was that it was a panoramic screen that scrolls thru simultaneously with the cinema lens camera dolly (you can see that on the recorded clips) and the ice skate rink idea was to just see dancers interpret his songs while he would sing from the back. With no vision whatsover on Frank. Honestly, that sounds way more disengaging than getting to have a glimpse at Frank in the stage. Maybe it was for the better not to have that ice rink setup
Was 2 years ago. A death in the family is shit and it takes however long it takes but I dunno bro. Why take the headline if you not up for it. Not everything is about you

Frank could have dead ass sat in a stool or just played piano and it would have been a great experience.
I camped there for 6 hours… even close to the stage it was nearly impossible to see him. The stage purposely covered him…
I was there and so disappointed he didn’t take his fans into consideration. Me and 2 others had made ourselves to the front (10ft rom VIP) and we waited for 6 hours!!! Thats standing in the same spot for that amount of time w no bathroom breaks and we couldn’t even sit in our spots because the crowd was so dense. Within our section there were 8 ppl that needed to get pulled out of the crowd and we saw one guy pass out next to us. It was absolutely scary at times and I even felt like I was abt to pass out!
People are spreading misinformation. He was an hour late, and it did get cut short because of curfew. But it was an hour and 20 minutes long, and he did sing, there is one clip of him dancing (not singing) to Nights that has led people to believe he didn’t sing anything, while I know that’s false because I watched it. But personally I didn’t think it was as bad as people are saying. It was a little messy at points but it was movie-esque, beautiful visuals and production, just wish you could see him more.
Watching the playback, it still seemed pretty great. But I will never pay for his ticket and expect him to show up lol

Are they members of the same church?
Yeah I saw that looks like damage control to me
Zach saying 30 feet and then seeing it being less then 10 feet is halarious 😂
Apparently those people were walking around the stage because they were supposed to be dancers or figure skaters that were going to do some kind of choreographed performance as part of his show but then he decided against it at the last second so the skaters didn't know what to do so that's why they were walking around in circles apparently
I mean why not just tell them to take the night off? Lol ....
Ian sacrifices so much for the show!

I'm sure fans would've appreciated that more and actually being able to visibly see him.
kanye at least respected his fans enough to cancel his set a week before the festival. like people who were going just for him could resell their tickets, no one would be standing in the desert for 12+ hours for a half assed set, and coachella was able to find a new performer for that time slot who could do a full show. really bad news when kanye cares about a group of people more than you

exactly, it was a good ass performance I wish I was there
I think regardless of what he would’ve done.
