      I was a product of the 60-70s and I had an idyllic childhood, yes we weren’t rich, we didn’t have the latest “must have fashion statement” and we certainly didn’t have a care in the world, long hot summers spent outdoors, fishing, camping, being allowed to stay out until it got dark, not a care at all, and if I could go back and do it all over again I would not change a thing, my memories could be seen as through “rose tinted spectacles” but I know that they are NOT, times were hard, but they were still great.

    I was a baby back then and this was the time period of my parents. Frankly it looks like the good times are a thing of the past not only in the USA but in most places like me in Europe. I don't know why but it seems people were of a different breed - not many people being obese to start with - and it looks like life was much more enjoyable, people looking more optimistic and perceived more as individuals. I remember the car seat in this video very well, my aunt had one in her car for my cousin. I guess those were for rich kids because all I had was a couple of Sears and Roebuck catalogs to sit on .... with no seat belts.
    As a child of the 50's and 60's, I would love the see a video full with just photos of baby things like car seats, cribs, strollers, high chairs, walkers, etc. from that era. It would be kind of cool to see these things again. Also it would go along way into proving why most of us are as tough as we are!!

      My younger sisters had a car seat similar to the one shown. These were not made for safety. They were for children to be able to see out of the window. But they were very dangerous. There was no headrest and the seat was not secured at all. They must have been some of the first car seats, and like the cars they were put in, little thought was given to the safety of the people that occupied them.

    • @allandavis8201
      @allandavis8201 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally agree, there was a huge price that was paid, but consider the alternative, Hitler could have realised his 1000 year Reich, communism could be the only thing we have ever known, WWIII could have happened already, but these scenarios have not happened, and all because of the greatest generation to ever walk this earth, and that was a huge price and sacrifice that they, mostly, were willing to, and did, pay for the limited freedom we have today. Without WWII the Great Depression, which affected the whole world, could have dragged on for years more than it did, and the good ole USA could be just another country, the United Kingdom could still be a world power and the huge advances that came about due to war might never have been realised, we owe such a huge debt to the greatest generation, Lest We Forget.

      I’m not sure that segregation was a bad thing. Both the whites and blacks in these photos look so much better than today. Look at the wide-scale crime and violence in America’s large cities that are now integrated. Chicago, Baltimore and Philadelphia used to be beautiful. I wouldn’t set foot in any of them today, due to the criminality of the current inhabitants.

    The one outstanding thing I didn’t like from the 50-60s was the spectacle design, they were just hideous, not very flattering at all. Can you imagine the reception the “Cadillac Cowgirls” would have received because of the way they were (almost) dressed even 10+ years before this photograph was taken, I doubt that it would have been at all complimentary, but the world had been changed irrecoverably in the preceding decades, attitudes were never going to be the same again, I’m glad to say. That’s one great way to go ice fishing 🎣.

      Well a key part of this is the fact that the food supply back in the 50's and 60's available to the average person was drastically different. In the past 50 years, the food supply available to the average person has been significantly compromised. Proof of this is the fact that much of the food consumed in America today would not be consumed in Europe or Canada.
