    Definitely OK to wear the Breitling to support the NAVY. But probably more appropriate for members and family.

    I really like the looks of those Breitlings. I get your point about the badges, but I don't think that would stop me. I think your analogy of the NY Yankee's hat is on point and many things are worn by fans of what is marketed, not actual team members. As for the Bugatti watch, I think those are only for the owners of that new car. They will make 349 of each

    I'd feel way more phony about wearing a Bugatti watch without a Bugatti than wearing a Navy watch never having been in the Navy.

    Thx for the update Oleg. I’m 100% with you on the breitling remark, I would feel strange wearing a watch with that specific squadron, but that’s just me. Comparison with Yankees is not (I find) comparable as that is a commercial organization that effectively is looking for and is dependent on supporters or fans….

    About the Breitling Navy watches.... I understamd with something like the Blue Angels which is a public facing aerobatics team that civilians might have an association or affinity to. Citizen has a line of Blue Angels watches that sell well. But making watches for specific combat squadrons only seems to make sense for people who serve in those squadrons or maybe family. I agree it's kind of weird to make these for general sale.

    Regarding the Breitlings, suppose it depends on both level of interest and individual taste. I have never been to the moon but would definitely rock one of the many Omega Speedmaster chronographs (if I could afford one that is...)

    The thing with the military unit on a watch or for example on a jacket or t-shirt is quite common and normal. It is not different to wear something with the name of a car brand (Ferrari, Bentley, Porsche, etc.) without owning a car of that brand. Many watch companies cooperate with military or first responsers, like Mühle Glashütte with the german sea rescue units.

    Navy vet here, somewhat agree i am not a Navy academy graduate and those two squadrons are test squadrons so I would not be interested. But I was a member of the Royal Maces squadron that Iwc released and find it hard to shell 10k for the watch. So bottom line they will be really niche watches

      Is there a specialty limited edition watch for the group of which I belonged - The Bilge Divers? It must withstand oil, salt water, sludge, seasick vomit at a depth of 1 meter?

    I have a Breitling premier pistachio and it’s a stunner. Very much a dress piece, certainly not a tool watch from their lineup.

    I agree with your view on the Jacob. A complication applies to a passage of time , be that hours minutes seconds or day and date etc. Ok the pistons thing is brilliant engineering but it's no complication its an eye candy gimmick.

    I find it interesting that marketing teams or firms know the luxury watch market is crashing, yet they still decide to release watches for $10k, $20k+, let's not even talk about the second-hand market. Easy 70% off on older models. Yet, with less than 1% market share, they're like, 'Yup, $20k plus because luxury items are exclusive and hard to obtain, and selling 50 pieces is enough.

    The Hamilton Khaki Field is one of the most intriguing watches on the market. While it is often linked to the American A-11 military watch, this connection is somewhat tenuous. The modern Hamilton is not the same entity that produced the A-11, and it wasn't the only manufacturer involved in its production. Therefore, the Hamilton Khaki Field, much like other field watches today, can be considered semi-generic.
    Field watches today are generally robust and functional, adhering to the same principles of simplicity and durability that defined the original military watches. However, several contemporary field watches arguably align more closely with the tough, straightforward ethos of the originals than the Hamilton Khaki Field. These alternatives often boast modern materials and build quality that enhance their reliability and resilience, staying true to the core idea of the original field watch concept.
    Why is the Khaki still as popular?

    IWC makes the "Top Gun" pilot watch and many who own and wear them are not pilots nor Naval Aviators and have not been to the NAVAL SPECIAL WARFARE SCHOOL better known as "Top Gun". So I think it's okay to wear them though I wouldn't.

    • @SamuraiJackson
      @SamuraiJackson 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No, "Special Warfare" is something else completely.
      The "TOPGUN" school is the Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor Course. That's a new name, it was known as Fighter Weapons School for a long time.

    • @BadGuyDennis

      IWC actually made two versions of TOPGUN, one actually exclusively for those instructors and graduates, the other one sold to public.

    • @mrdisco99
      @mrdisco99 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think Top Gun makes sense for the movie tie-in. That's different from the new Breitlings depicting squadrons which civilian consumers don't really have a link to.

    The Breitling watches are not medals... In the Army we wore cap badges commemorating previous battles honours ,didn't mean it was wrong to wear them...anyway shouldn't anybody wear a red arrows watch or a blue angels one? Pretty sure most aren't members of either 😂
