my childhood right there, i was 14 in 83 when the Electron came out, the machine will always have a special place with me, started my love of all things with cpu.
The Electron (alongside the Dragon 32) were me and my brother's first computers back then. We learnt about BASIC from that little machine more than we did from the BBC Micro at our school. Loading tapes was always something I remember being a patient but awkward procedure, hoping the dreaded "Data? Rewind tape" error didn't pop up. But even so, it was still a great little machine and one I remember fondly (and I still have that little Elk, right down to its original ULA chip!).❤
I love the natural progress of the video, aiming to play a game but wrestling with old technology at the same time. Far more interesting (and similar to my experience) than a heavily scripted pre-prepared gaming session. Nice one!
That PAC-MAN clone on the Acorn looks cool. Also, you have two awesome BARBARIAN game posters 😺👍🕹️. Maria Whittaker 😻❤️🌹... MEOW 😻💕💞! And that SHADOW OF THE BEAST game box... that is absolutely retrospectively legendary 😺👍🕹️!
haha thanks for noticing. I have Barbarian 1 and 2 with boxes and posters, and if you're into that, you can see those in more detail here: th-cam.com/video/sLklixBb178/w-d-xo.html I have SotB 1 and 2 as well, but no "free T-Shirts" in either :( I need to get number 3 one day. :)
As the song goes.... "Acorn Electron, cheaper BBC Micro......" :) My mate Benji had an electron when we were kids. Always felt like they'd taken the best bits of the beeb and binned them. He did eventually get an upgrade to the model B which we had loads of fun with.
Yes Boxer....I've covered that already so feel free to have a look. Weird yet fun game that had me hooked for hours. I have Starship Command also so will cover that in the future. th-cam.com/video/Jnc27Zn2Dx4/w-d-xo.html
Electron ❤. One of those great looking computers that never crossed my path. It was all c64 around here. I hope to change that one day, or simply use the mister. Looks like a fun notpacman.
It was great watching this Chris. I have an electron, or rather I have an Electron that belongs to Mrs YA 😅, which does get some use. I didn’t know about this Pac Man clone for it, so will defo be giving it a whirl next time we get the Elk out to play. 👍
@@005AGIMA Oh wow, thank you. 😁The early ones are a bit shakey, but I’m quite pleased with how they have developed and I eventually got into my stride with them. Now at Amiga meets I seem to be known as ‘The AMOS guy’. 😂
Fairly sure tge 1st pacman clone I ever played was haunted hedges on the zx spectrum. The image is mostly fine... then it goes mental 🤣😂. Looks pin sharp in black and white, fun little clone mate.
During my time at University, there was a rather attractive young lady with flowing red hair, that was sometimes called 'Snapper'. Never quite had the courage to ask her why. I could only imagine her answer! ;)
I like seing the variety of clones on your systems. Does the spectrum have a Pac Man clone or is it a port ? I am checking out what port the Amstrad cpc has as i type.
I used to fast forward, rewind, fast forward and then rewind once more to take the tension off the tape. Was an old VHS trick too. I’ve always had a secret hankering for an Electron. I’ve often checked them out on eBay but never took the plunge. They always seem reasonably priced in these days of silly money for old stuff.
@@herdarkshadow834Yeah that tension trick is a good one. What I normally do is try a tape first, and if I run into issues, then the do the FWD/RWD trick a few times and try again. Especially if I hear a warble. And yep, Elks are so under-rated that they really haven't attracted much nostalgia tax, which is nice.
@@005AGIMA I think that mountain of unsold models was so high that the availability of pristine boxed examples is disproportionately in its favour too. Not exactly an exciting carton but there always seem to be factory fresh examples floating around. All for the price of a current gen video game if you’re patient.
I do have a CRT but I use it for the 2600 and G7000 and C64. It's been featured in many videos so you'd know that ;) But Aus frequencies and UK frequencies are not the same, even though they're both PAL, so there's that to throw into the mix. My Early Elk videos in fact used the CRT and you can see the same image issues on those videos ;) I'll comp mod this puppy. It's 1 blob of solder.

You can’t get more retro than black and white😂
haha fair point.
Love playing that on our Electron back when it was new :)
Awesome machines

I like your nostalgic vibes :)
Thanks mate :)
I don't think I ever played on an Acorn Electron. For me it was always a BBC at school. Thanks for the vid.
Yeah we had the BBC at School but the Elk at home.

I love old black and white tubes! I took an old 5" portable B&W TVs, and put a raspberry pi in it 😅
Haha nice

Yeah the only reason we had an elk was my brother won it in a game of brag lol. When it does l died my brother brought me a spectrum +3 😁
Love the old games ❤
They're always good fun to revisit
I have fond memories of this and also Boxer but my absolute favourite was always Starship Command

Elks are very cheap to get hold of and fairly bullet proof to be honest :)

Well worth a play :)
Oh also, I've subbed to your channel. Mainly as I note you have some great tutorials on AMOS :)

That jumpy image would be fine with rave music in the background 🤣
looks good
Not too shabby 😁

Never too late to find out I say :D

It had clones for sure. Not sure if it had an official port.
I was shouting at the screen Why haven't you done that ages ago. Nice game of not pacman.
haha I knew someone would :D
The original Snapper is much better (before they were forced to make it less like Pacman).
Ah so I was right? There was a non-legged version? I think we had the more Pac Man looking version growing up. May be a blurred memory though.
@@005AGIMA Yes definitely, I have the 'non-legged' version for my BBC Micro.

modern lcd tuner is not kind to old rf signals, get yourself a crt tv lol
