Optimistic is such an underappreciated track. Shame they barely play it anymore.
My favourite song
I think it’s pretty universally recognized as one of their best songs among their fans
Not by me ( :

22 years ago! What? This music is out of time... Timeless.
Like every Radiohead songs. Time doesn't exist anymore ☺

Welcome to the club babe
In 100 years this will be still the music of the future
I was at this concert. Paid an absolute fortune to get 2 tickets and was drunk for the most part . Remember walking across Waterloo bridge afterwards with my best mate belting out let down . People around us thought we were mad . Great memories
Radiohead casually posting 22 year old (to the day) performances on main

Optimistic is one if their best songs ever.
Wish they would release new music soon.
lol 😂. Sorry to break it to you, but, Radiohead is done. Let’s hope Thom plays it at his solo show or with the smile
@@jeffparris7726 They'll probably release another album still, but by the time they do it'll be like 2025.

My eldest brother's favorite Radiohead song. Rest in peace, bro.
Hello, how are you doing it’s nice meeting you here.
Optimistic is probably the most underrated Radiohead track. It being one of my favorite Radiohead tracks, I've never understood why people don't put it up alongside their best tracks.
It got the most plays on radio when kid a released. Other underrated tracks id say are Lull and permanent daylight.
I mean... are radiohead fans really known for their optimism?
It's because their best track is one called Radiohead's Whole Discography...
@@anthonybautista9039 you like lull? The one off of the no surprises single right?
@@st1lllif313 its mad short but yea that ones good
Phil is a human beatbox. I love this performance of Optimistic. Radiohead have so much fantastic stories, lyrics and sounds to tell yet. I can wait another 6 years for a new LP.
If you want a new Radiohead album I recommend checking out "The Smile". The band has both Thom Yorke and the guitarist from Radiohead (I forgot his name rn I don't feel like looking it up) and it's basically a new Radiohead.
It's not quite the same magic as Radiohead, but it's damn close.
@@floppavevo5920 I've already listened the Smile ty. Remind me of On a Friday era. As you mentioned it's not the same neither close to me.
the best band of our generation
Kid A is and always will be my favorite Radiohead album.

Well, you’re not alone. Top selling record.

Smart man.
They are almost too good to be real. Had the chance to see them live in 2018 and it was absolutely mindblowing. I’m still hoping we get another album/tour but if not, I’m thankful that I’ll always be able to cherish that experience. Super cliche and cheesy but their music changed my life
Nothing "cliché" or "cheesy" about the effects produced by Artworks that are honest and deep.
When I met Thom Yorke I thanked him for the music and told him it changed my life and he said "me too, man... me too"
My favorite era of Radiohead.
What an unexpected treat to wake up to on a dreary Canada Day morning. Long live Kid A and Radiohead! 🙏
Radiohead will most likely never perform live together again.
Vancouver today...sunny and warm...sorry u don't have that...Radiohead....Thunderbird stadium....what a concert.....Paranoid Android in the summer rain....Happy Canada day to you....long live RH
Same here, made my Canada day for sure. I’m always amazed that they can still build the relentless dread of the National Anthem work in a live setting without the horn section.
@@jeffparris7726 yes, some say so. Let's hope and see 🤞
love it... still my favorite album
Wow... I was at this gig, my first Radiohead gig. We got the coach down from Leeds.... didn't realise they'd filmed it.
I first heard Optimistic on the Radiohead's "In Rainbows" From The Basement set. It was that performance that made me fall in love with Radiohead all over again and I've been a huge fan ever since
Optimistic is the song that got me into Radiohead
Wow. Interesting. That’s awesome.
Same here, as well as There, There. Top Gear Ayrton Senna Tribute.
Good for you. For me it was Street Spirit, but I had no idea it was Radiohead until OKC came out and I made the connection.
What i love about is the end which morphs perfectly into In Limbo…KID A and Amnesic. Both highly underrated ! Simply genius…
This was the first thing I ever heard of Radiohead live- a sound check, coming out of the Big Top, as I queued to enter, October 1st (2nd?), 2000.
I'll always remember the feeling of the hairs standing up on the back of my neck. Such excitement.
Was there and know the exact feeling, reading this comment stood them right back up tbh, never heard bullet proof live again.
Wait this was the soundcheck version?
They're just too good. Unrivaled and untouchable.
Optimistic is a cool cool cool song even though times have changed. I'm getting to like it even more.
Radiohead lives forever❤️
Their peak era. What a treat!! kid A and Amnesiac god tier albums.
Agreed.
El día que los vea tocar Optimistic en vivo voy a poder morir en paz.
Not likely. They’re finished. Might see The Smile perform it though

I love this song to the point I fear listening so much that I get tired of it.... Haven't got there yet thankfully.
Radiohead is so good live. 😭
Radiohead forever💜🌺🇨🇱
@Thom Yorke sería un sueño que fueras el verdadero Thom!!! pero gracias aunque no lo seas igual me alegraste la tarde 💜🌺🇨🇱
The bass on the National Anthem, wow!
Thank you! I was at this show. Amazing 2,700 classical hall with perfect acoustics. Kid A was unreleased but I'd heard a bad recording of a Barca show a few weeks prior and loved "Optimistic". 6 OK, 6 Kid A, 5 Bends, 4 Amnesiac tunes + Talk Show Host. Walked right down to the front and stood about 20ft from Thom for last 6 songs. Truly amazing!
best band ever
I queued up overnight to get tickets for this show and it is probably the best gig I've been to
Just a day before, I read an article saying that Radiohead disbanded. And now they post this new video. No. Radiohead will persist and they will always be the best.
Whenever I stop falling in love with myself.. I listen to radiohead 💗
This comment. Yup.
😓
I still don’t understand how guys with guitars, drums, and some basic electronic gear a can be this powerful. Why is this so much beyond everything else? It makes the Beatles sound simple, and I love the Beatles.
Amazing ✨
Radiohead's music sounds like the soundtrack to a dark alternate reality
I wouldn't say dark, I would say optimistic.
bro it’s the soundtrack to our reality. we are the dark alternate reality.
I noticed that my university's professors sang this. great sense for them and Radiohead and my music buddy.
enthusiasm and healing.
This era of Radiohead is (and always will be) timeless.
Optimistic is my favorite song from Kid A. ❤️
Love the drums on this. clutch Phil.
I remember just barely discovering Radiohead for the first time and really exploring their music and really loved Optimistic for a while.
Then one day it played on the radio and I was pleasantly surprised; my heart lit up.
Feels like a great song for anyone who struggles with perfectionism.
"The best you can is good enough.".
Really relieves me sometimes when Im pushing too hard.
Still echoes in my mind when things don't feel right.
the coolest most talented band id never purposely go see live. i fuckin love em, that's why...
two amazing performances of some underrated magic. Kid A has been on repeat a lot for me lately. I don't understand why, exactly, but couldn't be happier that it's found me again. Sometimes you just need to let go and float down the Liffey. (Nick, 5/22/24)
The best band ever!
Thank you for sharing this with us. We will always be waiting for these videos, and even more so for a new album. Greetings from Argentina!
Really hope they will tour together as Radiohead again soon

Anyway thank you for letting us see this little gem off the "Kid A" Era !
Love you sm guys, hope you're doing well❤🙏🏼
I was born in July-2000, my favorite song is Optimistic, I cried when I saw this video ❤️❤️❤️
I saw them on this tour at the Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan. I think they opened with The National Anthem and had the full horn section and everything. Thom played "The Egyptian Song," which was the still unreleased "Pyramid Song" and was breathtaking. Still one of the greatest shows I've ever seen. I was lucky to see them at this point.
The national anthem is the crazy song!
gradually the best and most important in history
Always remembered, never forgotten.
The numbers don’t decide
Love you boys
Thank you for sharing this!!

Optimistic became one of my Radiohead favs after having heard the version by the Max Haymer Trio. Everybody who likes this Song and jazz should check it out.

Amazing songs
So nice.
Optimistic is next level
The lyrics are amazing
i heard optimistic in the only fucking park in Milan during their soundcheck in 2008 and It was the best (pop/rock) music experience in my life.
Just fantastic.
I remember going to my parents attic with my new brand KID A cd and playing this disc for the very first time. The first listening was, WTF are they doing? The second one same, third same. Trying to understand the drawings in the booklet and hoping it sounded more Ok Computerish. I was so wrong and I'm so happy that I was.
I had a similar experience. Only I was in my late 20s and married already. I was completely obsessed with OKC for years. When this came out, a young kid at work went with me on our lunch hour to buy the CD the day it was released. Took it back to my office and nervously unwrapped it, popped it into my boom box and closed my office door. Hit play…and then we both just sat there staring at each other, dumbfounded, confused, waiting for crunchy guitar hooks…waiting….waiting…more theremin…waiting….
To say I was profoundly disappointed would be an understatement. But here’s the genius of Radiohead - it took me years of listening, studying, analyzing every note before I truly got it. That payoff was well worth the work. I love a band who makes you work for it.
Long live Radiohead.
Funny to read this comment - I worked REALLY HARD to like this album, playing on repeat the more familiar melodious tunes like 'How to disappear completely', and 'Motion Picture Soundtrack'. I really didn't get it at the time and didn't understand the process behind it or the creative difficulty since Ok Computer. Amnesiac completely threw me and I departed the Radiohead camp until In Rainbows which speaks for itself really. I still love a good few tracks off Amnesiac though.
Optimistic has since become one of my favourite tracks and listening to this earlier version against the Basement session is astounding - the richness to their music matures over time.
We can argue if the national anthem is their best song but we can't argue about if it's their most chaotic
Cause it is
