    I'm back on the bike this year! And correcting a lifetime of rounded posture played a big roll in my rotator cuff surgery recovery here in Atlanta. I'm even using one of those back buzzers to remind me to "straighten up and fly right," as my father always said. But I never considered how glasses could play a roll. Many thanks, Kerri!

    Good advice but what are the solutions? For sunglasses, go with a cycling-specific glass that has a top edge that rises above the eyebrow (this is why they all look so tall, like ski goggles). Also learn to turn your eyes up a bit to reduce the need to crane you neck. To reduce the kyphosis (hunched upper back), contract your TVA (transverse abdominals) and lower abs to stabilize your lower back. This will allow your upper back to relax and open up into extension, as is recommended in the video. This takes a lot of practice and your reach to the handlebars must not be excessive. You should be very well balanced in the saddle, such that your hands just float on the bars when pedaling moderately hard. Very small adjustments to saddle position can dramatically affect your balance and load on your back and hands.

    “Your neck hurts because of your back and posture.” Here I am making 100 micro adjustments on my bike when I just have abysmal posture. Thank you for this video. I did notice the glasses one when I switched to really cycling glasses from my old sunglasses!

    I have watched many bike fitting vidz. This is the only vid so far that has addressed glasses. I have prescription glasses and it is very difficult to find glasses that have big lenses that extend towards the eyebrow to allow better vision.

    Wow, I didn't know that sunglasses can cause neck pain. Good to know. 👍

    Helpful information! My posture is horrible and I’m constantly trying to remind myself to straighten up. Back discomfort during long rides was the main reason I sold my road bike and bought a hybrid. Now I’m more upright, can do long distances, and the only thing that hurts is my pride when I see my average speed LOL 😂. I think I will get a foam roller for stretching as Dr Kerri suggested 👍🏽!

      I am always trying to have good posture for the camera, but in reality, it doesn't happen. Being upright is good for our biking tours, you can see so much more than if you were riding a road bike. We still do distances, up to 26 miles. (Not sure if that is a short distance for you?) I am more of a party pacer, but there are times I like to think I am Peter Sagan! Dr. Kerri is great. We did film a back discomfort video. At one point that will be posted. Nice to hear from you again!

      @@RideandShineBicycling Better posture- the struggle is real, lol. Yesssss…. I am living the party pace too 🎉! I like doing long rides (I have done a century ride, but I pretty much average between 10-40 mile trips) and speed is not a need in my life. No distance is too short. I ride for fun, recreation, errands, exploration, shopping, market, eating, and just because I absolutely love it 😊! Ha! One day 2 dogs were chasing me while I was on my bike. Fortunately a truck pulled up and saved me because apparently I am nothing like Peter Sagan 😆. Looking forward to the back discomfort video!

      @@shelleyshell1150 That reminds of the turkey with an attitude has been the bane of walkers, joggers and bikers on the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail. The turkey chased a jogger for 400 yards and harassed a biker by attacking her bike tires. You want to laugh, but not too loud. 100 miles! impressive🤗

    I don't understand. Almost all bikes are designed where the rider is leaning forward and the head needs to be lifted. Doesn't this cause that same compression in the neck? So why don't all bike riders suffer from neck pain? Maybe they are using exercises or techniques that help the pain instead of just keeping their heads down, which they don't.

    • @RideandShineBicycling

      It's a valid point! I want to know the answer. There are various factors at play, including bike fit, riding posture, and individual conditioning that can affect neck pain in cyclists. But you would have to ask a doctor, I just interviewed one. Thanks for the observation.

    So it was my glasses fault all along

  • @firebird7479
    @firebird7479 ปีที่แล้ว

    This provides no insight. This is great if you don't need to wear glasses or are able to wear contacts, but I have keratoconus and must wear glasses when I ride my bike. It does not matter what my frames are, I am always in a craned position, otherwise, I am either looking over my lenses or staring at the road a couple of feet from me, not able to see oncoming traffic. Where I ride has a lot of steady and steep inclines which keeps me in the down position, not to mention a lot of wind, which keeps me from sitting up on my seat.

    • @RideandShineBicycling
      @RideandShineBicycling  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t need to wear glasses but wearing glasses while riding for me is essential, not only to protect my eyes from sun rays but also dust and debris. Thank you for your insight.

    • @firebird7479
      @firebird7479 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RideandShineBicycling If I were to get into an accident and not be wearing my glasses, I'd be in some legal trouble, I suppose. What I really need, I think, is a prescription pair of biker's goggles that cuts out the wind shear, the bugs, allows me to keep my head in the proper position while not sacrificing peripheral vision.
