So you're telling me this entire time I've been waiting for the plants to grow I needed to put a storage bin on the outside? Great video and thanks for the tips.
I'm working towards it.😅 I think Starfield will probably work well if approached in a similar way to Fallout 4; ie a number of small set-piece builds then a tour of the larger finished product.
@@DarthXionGames, meh, I like watching the process, if that makes sense? Going from start to finish seeing what you use, and hearing why you use it, how it's placed, all that good stuff. That's why I like watching your actual build videos for 76 better than just a "tour". I'm left wondering often how the hell you got stuff to look like you did when it's just a tour. Also, most of the tours you don't explain why you did what you did with certain pieces. Just my preference. :D
That's fair. Most of the time I tour it's because the building is minimal or a spin on something I've done before. I could include the decorating but that's generally very time consuming and repetitive, so it would probably either be a long, dull video or a very incomplete one. What I'm thinking of for Starfield is not just tours but individual builds of smaller structures then one being tour of the end, so you kind of get both but in more episodic form.
Thank you for showing how to set up the greenhouse along with the power, water and storage all of which are very useful as I built all these at my Jemison outpost but I couldn't get them to work as I connected them somehow wrongly.
For some, moving the beacon from its original place could cause the game to freeze, so if you move your beacon and funny stuff happens when you open your hand scanner, that's why.
Thinks for explaining how this works, especially the tip about the one storage crate: I've been sinking tons of resources into building the largest size storage containers for solid, liquid, gas & manufactured resources, only to have them fill up all too fast, so this should help mitigate that issue. On the plus side, with the massive water storage from the well I already have at my Eridani II outpost, aka Amaurot, I should have more than enough water for farming stuff. I just picked up botany & zoology the other day, and I intend to build both animal & plant farms at Amaurot, since Eridani II is a nice, lush world (Amaurot is located in a tropical forest biome, so it's basically my own little Paradiso) I also agree 100% with how crappy the storage & supply line system is in this game compared to Fallout 4. Hopefully this will be addressed either in a future patch or by mods...
Playing around with Zoology is on my to-do list. I'm looking forward to getting that set up and tested. I've got a plan in mind for getting a cargo and resource system set up too but with the system being unreliable at the moment I'm not sure if it's worth rushing into. Either way I need to unlock the last couple of skills I think before I worry too much about that.
Got really stuck on this one - got the skills and research, but couldnt find the greenhouse dome anywere in the build-menue, so this helped a LOT! Thanks!
Thank you! 😊 As far as I know it's not currently possible to farm veggies. I haven't played with the cooking system too much though so I'm not 100% on that. It might get added in the future though whether by DLC, creation club or via mods.
Thanks! It's all recorded using OBS. For the tour the only things I did differently was to hide the HUD, (slider in the interface menu), turn the music and voices off, and use a controller to walk around, (controllers make for smoother movement as the lower sensitivity means they don't pick up every micro shake from your hands). Simple! 😎
Hey hey! Great build video, I never knew you could build most of these! Glad my ranting made sense & you found that tricky container! 👍 I was wondering if it was a development oversight but I have a feeling one of the dev's did it on purpose, I could always be wrong though. Seems weird for it to only be just the one container unless they planned for people to build warehouses or loading docks. But the lack of platforms to put them on makes me think oversight. Either way they're very handy for collecting bulk resources while playing the rest of the game, there's also a way to move them inside a hab for people who want home deliveries ☺ I can't remember how I did it though, but it can be done. Thanks for the extra tips!
It's strange that they're the only one. There are shelves available that the containers will fit on though so it may be intentional. It is a bit odd that the storage capacity is higher than a larger object though. Hopefully if they decide to change anything it'll be to increase the size of the large bins rather than the opposite. I have some ideas with these that I want to test, but I'm hoping for a way to label things otherwise storing resources would be a nightmare.
Actually, I think I moved one inside a hab by linking it, moving it in the airlock first, then shifting it a second time after the airlock closed behind it & that let me use it as an interior furnishing with a resource output link. I thought it would be a good way to set up a crafting outpost/resource warehouse.
That does raise an interesting challenge if you can't connect to containers inside. 🤔 connecting them whilst they're outside and moving them in does seem like a good plan though.
The amount that the large bins hold is far too low & the required resources to build them is much higher. It made me think they were designed to separate incoming shipments into solids/liquids/gasses but I encountered some bugs with that. Another outpost oddity I noticed was that after building an elevated square hab & deleting the structure it leaves behind it's large square foundation that can be built on externally. I haven't played enough to know if it's a permanent fixture & the remaining foundation can't be moved. I'm sure it's a bug, or I just don't know how to remove foundations, but they'd be nice to build on if they do remain permanently.
Hopefully they'll get the cargo links improved in a future update. I know it's been a bugbear for a lot of people. That thing with the foundation sounds like a bug but I've not encountered it myself. It sounds potentially quite useful. It wouldn't be the first time a bug worked out that way!
I wonder if we can comnect all these resource producing units with hallways. For example, if we plop an outpost down on a planetary body without breathable atmosphere, are we able to have e everything inside a series of larger buildings? Lore wise, I'd absolutely hate to have to don and remove a spacesuit everytime we entered or left a single outpost building
You need the botany skill. I'm not sure if outpost engineering is necessary but if you're building outposts it will unlock a lot more building options so I'd definitely recommend taking it anyway.
That's what I used. There's 3 different versions I think. I couldn't remember the name at the time though so I just went with the Star Wars name! Tbf I'm fairly sure they both work by condensing water vapour in the air so it's not entirely wrong. Probably. 😅
Does anyone know if there's any kind of larger concrete base or other means of creating a solid, horizontal base to build on rather than placing it on the planet surface normally?
Is there a benefit to assigning Sarah to an outpost with a greenhouse? She has Botany 1, but you yourself need that rank to even build them 😕 Does the production output go up if she's there?
It's possible that having her assigned might allow you to use her botany skill rather than having it yourself. I'm not entirely sure how that works when it comes to scanning plants though.
@@DarthXionGamesthat's not how that works. Instead of it giving you the perk it just helps in that field so for example she'll give you random plant based resources. For others for example the combat perks affect them not you
@DarthXionGames, you may want to have explained that the first step, is to choose a planet with a habitable atmosphere. The game is completely stupid and never explains this fact. This makes absolutely no sense, as if a plant is grown in an internal atmosphere that has air, water, & soil, then it really doesn't matter whats on the outside of the greenhouse. This is how they are able to grow plants on the international space station... it doesn't matter whats outside, as long as internally you have the right mixture of air, water, & soil, with an adequate exposure to UV light (artificial or natural). But the stupid game never explains this, so I had maxed out every skill in botany and base building, and still couldn't grow anything, until I watched another video.
Hello.I built a greenhouse. I have scanned about 20 plants. But the greenhouse only produces 2 things: toxin and structure. Why can't I make other products from plants? Thanks Peter.
Not every plant on a planet will be farmable. When you have fully scanned them the UI should tell you if they can be grown in your outpost. If you want to produce other materials you'd need outposts on other planets that have farmable plants that produce those specific resources.
Thank you. I think the biggest confusion comes from thinking the hydroponic hab is for growing plants and then spending hours trying to locate a console .......
One of the things that has irritated me is a lack of basic stairways that PC's can build. You've given me the idea to create a stairway out of those storages though.
Looks sweet mate! How are you enjoying the building in this game compared to fallout 76? I'm liking being able to just drop misc items then lift them and put them where you like
Cheers! It has pros and cons so far. Being able to decorate with junk items is cool, but they sink into the objects they're placed on sometimes which isn't ideal. I'm concerned that the building system will rather limit thematic builds. Whilst it seems to be simpler and cleaner to use in some ways I feel like it's much less flexible so far than in previous games. We'll have to see what future updates and DLC hold though.
@@DarthXionGames I thing I do miss is having the walls and roofs etc to just place where u want instead if a pre built hav. Also noticed inside some if them is very dark and the only lights u can add shine into the floor lol. I hope it gets updates and fixed regularly as it's not a live service game. May just get left to deal with
@callyg7696 we'll see a few updates I think. That's what they did with previous games. It'll take a while to implement the changes I think though as they're fairly involved. I'll have to look into the lighting issue. I've not unlocked everything yet. There may be more locked behind skills or hidden around the game. I've got some ideas for working with it though. Plus we'll see what DLC brings.
On reflection that's not hugely surprising. They might be better used at the front of the chain, or just used as part of a storage and distribution system.
I couldn't figure out why the greenhouse wasn't coming up in my builder menu. I have maxed out the botany skill (although I realize now that only the 1st level is required) and fully scanned the planet (in this case, Achimedes V-a). Then I realized that NONE of the plants on this planet say in the pull-up menu that they are able to be cultivated. Are you serious? Not a single plant on the entire planet? So disappointing, because this planet has lots of plant and animal life and two valuable resources (Tantalum and Ytterbium), which is why I started the outpost. The plants here also harvest ADHESIVE--just the plant I wanted to be able to grow in my greenhouse. Darn.
If you're there already I'd try rescanning a few plants. It may be that none of them can be grown but it may also be that yj game needs a refresh there. That's what happened at first for me too.
I hope it works for you. 🤞 I've not tried to grow anything for adhesive yet, so I'm not sure of it's possible or not. If you don't have any luck it may just not be available on that planet so it might be worth keeping an eye out elsewhere but I can't say for sure either way at this point.
@@DarthXionGames Ok, thanks again. I'm on Huygens VII-B right now and came across a plant that can be grown in a greenhouse for fiber, so at least i know the mechanic is working on my end, although I didn't build an outpost here since resources on the planet are pretty limited. I'll keep looking, but thanks for the reply. Finding plants that harvest adhesive in a greenhouse will be a huge boost, since it's such a rare element in this game and needed so much for crafting weapon mods.
@life-longpatriot8258 it's not the most exciting approach but there are a couple of shops around that sell it. I've managed to get by that way when needed.
"My storage bin is empty but the last one in the chain is starting to fill up with cosmetics!" *opens bin, showing off a ton of lipstick* Also, did I miss the part where you planted the plants? What if you have scanned TWO plants that are greenhouse-able?
You don't plant them. I did go over this, but they're already placed for you, which is why some of the placement doesn't necessarily look the best. The terminal by the airlock let's you choose what you grow in a given greenhouse. Same as other fabricators let you choose what they make.

In case you were wondering - This is Cassiopeia 1, in the Eta Cassiopeia system. (Top left corner of the Starmap).
So you're telling me this entire time I've been waiting for the plants to grow I needed to put a storage bin on the outside? Great video and thanks for the tips.
Seems likely yeah! 😂 You need somewhere to store the resources and unfortunately extractors and fabricators don't seem to have internal storage.
I'm just getting into this game. Didn't think i would care for it but it's so much fun. Love your build.
Awesome to hear! 😎
So cool how you can take the simplest thing and make it, "interesting". Nicely done, now just waiting for you to go "BIG", with a huge outpost.

If this isn’t classified under habs, can you still connect it to other habs so you can have it connected to the rest of your outpost?
Unfortunately no, it won't connect to anything else.
Perhaps this is changed from a patch, but you forgot to mention you need to research Horticulture I as well to make a greenhouse.

No, just the one you're building on.

Not that I've seen yet. If you build on your ship's landing site it will generally level the ground quite effectively though.
I've seen someone use one of the flooring titles as a makeshift ground to place things on, but it requires a ton of those titles. Like thousands.
