- Vintage and antique bicycles at the Classic Cycle bike shop in Bainbridge Island, WA. They have a museum in the shop. This is a GREAT shop with cool old bikes and bike memorabilia all over the walls. The employees are great with some having worked with professional cycling teams. Great stories. I highly recommend visiting this shop if you are in the area. It's just a ferry ride from Seattle, and the shop is a short walk from the ferry terminal.

There's a guy in my town with a collection like this in a converted garage. But he's a bit of a recluse and it was just by happenstance that about 15 years ago he showed us the collection. He wouldn't allow pics unfortunately but it was the first time I saw "10 speed" style drop bar bikes from before WWII. Mind blown but I have no proof, lol. Way cool video, thanks for sharing. I hope to visit next time I'm in the Seattle area.
I just randomly rumbled in this bike shop when I was visiting USA for a business trip. This is the nicest bike shop I have seen so far.
Nice to see they have an actual bike rack out front. Very few retail or public building in the US have those anymore.

Wow beautiful classic bicycles
Washington is all about bikes and this is exemplary of the state-wide appreciation of bikes of any genre. The museum is off the beaten path per se, but would most assuredly be worth the beautiful ferry ride and the Bainbridge folks are among the most hospitable in our beautiful state. Seems like about half of my new customer base are recent arrivals and one of their first "must haves", or wants is to get a bike. Bike folks are without a doubt among the easiest going and friendly people on the planet. Not a coincidence I feel because bicycling is good for your head as well as your heart.
For anybody who is interested, the Flying Scot was the Glasgow, Scotland hand built frame marque. They were made by Rattray's bicycle shop. Most club riders in the Glasgow area would have ridden Scots up through the early 70s. I remember going into Rattray's one summer with my grandfather who was a bigwig in the Scottish Cyclist's Union and he had one that I would guess was made in the 1950s. My father inherited it and I may ship it back from the UK to the US if it is still available ( didn't want to swoop in like a vulture when my dad died but some time has passed now ). It was made as a "clubman" frame so it has clearances for mudguards ( fenders ), larger tires and, unfortunately, 27-1/4 wheels. This means that with 700c wheels, long reach calipers are needed and braking is not what it could be. In those days, people didn't have the money for a time trial bike, a road racing bike and a tourer.
My dad would only buy us used bikes as kids and of course we wanted "brand new" bikes. So my brother had a used Claude Butler but didn't appreciate what he had. It was stolen when he stopped to go into a bathroom in town ( he might have wanted it to be stolen to be honest ). Clearly somebody else knew the value of the bike. He still didn't get a new bike so if he had a plan, it backfired.
There is just something wonderful about a contraption that will allow a man to move at 15 or more miles per hour for hours on end under his own steam. The feeling you have when you are bike fit is tremendous.

Cool you that are highlighting local bike shops who are so passionate and help pass the enthusiam on and support their customers and community. I live in Bremerton near there.
Very nice tour and a great look at some historic bike design ideas. The curved seat tube has been around longer than I imagined, Schwinn featured it on the 1974 Sprint and Paramount frames, they discontinued the design after 1975. Thanks for sharing

The Legnano is the same as that used by Gino Bartali
The one liver system is Cambio Paris-Roubaix and the dual one is Cambio Corsa

Saw something similar too this in Pittsburgh. That place specialized in schwinn muscle bikes but cool none the less. Nice photos enjoyed the tour

Just stumbled on this video. That Cyclops is great. They were built by a guy here in Toronto named Mike Mulholland, who did a lot of custom race bikes for people in the area. He's long since passed, but they were beautiful bikes with lots of interesting details, and he did some really great paintwork as well. He did a wishbone seat stay design that was pretty neat for the time period when he built it.

Hi, I have been watching your videos for a while, and they are great. The first bike in your video is a Galetti from Milano Italy, I live about 25 miles from there. Galetti bikes are still made today, but the bikes made from 1920 and before his death in 1949 are quite expensive to buy even if they are in poor conditions. Carlo Galetti was a well known bike racer of my area in the first 1900, during his career he raced for Atala, Bianchi and Legnano his nickname was ... Squirrel of the channels..... because he was very swift! Thank you for your videos ........Carlo
Are the owners a couple of brothers? I may have raced against them in 1972. Can’t remember their names. The guys I’m thinking of were from Washington State, and I believe they lived on Mercer Island. Sorry, it has just been too many decades to remember much more than this.
Circa 1993 Rev-Xs on a 1993 Colnago, what could be more appropriate? I've got a set on a restored Panasonic DX-4000 (1986) and it looks "badass".
If you're ever in Seattle, check out the Recycled Cycles shop on Boat Street in the U-District. It's maybe not quite at this level, but they have a lot of interesting vintage bikes hanging from the ceiling, and a case full of cool vintage components that aren't for sale.

My Grandpa's 1935(ish) 'France Sport' has one of those strange rear derailleurs that you picked up on early in the vid. It's a Super Champion Brevette SDGD. Really cool design but it can be a right pain in the ass to adjust and ride with.

RJ, have you ever been to the bicycle museum in Chicago? I don't know if it's still there. I was there in 1996. The most interesting bike, IMO, was a dual shaft two wheel drive bike. Built maybe late 1800's? Can't remember.

Those Spinergy wheels are quite vintage. from 90s
This bike was really easy to assemble th-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.
RJ, I'm getting ready to restore a 1975 Bridgestone Shinestar. I'm gonna have a question or two for you about restoring this bike. I'll post at your website.
the spinergy wheels on that '93 colnago came out in 1990, i believe. seem period-appropriate to me.
Period appropriate but aesthetically dissonant I would say. The frame was still classic in proportions and the wheels would be more typically paired with some kind of "aero" frame.

I love old bikes I ran my bike shop in Phila from 1970-90. Kind of closed up moved down to Florida go maybe start back up. Thought about buying some old run down shop and moving it to a more productive area. I did go back into it in 1991 when I found a old time racer who sold me 6-7 old bikes and boxes of parts. Two bikes where early Rudge scorcher’s from 1895-96 time frame. I had a couple of 1920’s -30’s racers. But my favorite one has been a Holdsworth cyclone racer made in 1948-49. Total one off bike. Very hard to find parts or help. Where can I get hold of the reamers for inside of the fork. The early 50’s cinelli handle won’t fit raw inside never reamed to fit a stem into. The the handle bar stem also needs to be cleaned up inside. Could you help me find the parts I need.
I don't have any secret sources. You have to shop around. Try ebay. craigslist, facebook marketplace, etc.
The wheels on the Colnago are of the same era as that bike. I agree that it clashes with the aesthetic, but at least historically, they aren't out of place.

You are going to have to do your own research. But being a Sears bike, it probably doesn't matter much. They are not collectible at all. Sears sold very low end bikes.
I've either owned written of have friends or having my collection 1/5 of what I've seen in this video

I know Auburn. I grew up in Federal Way about two blocks from TJ. Do a lot of research. Is there a need for one? You will need a lot more than 7K. About inventory costs, etc. Most new businesses fail.

I have Proflex Anymal 1997 all original parts including Kooka blue cranks and rim hydro magura breaks. Anyone interested? I still ride it as a commuter sometimes but would love to sell to collector or someone who will restore it. I am original owner, bought it in 1997. Parts worth more then whole bike but I don't feel like selling it piece by piece. It would be like taking apart an old friend. I own another 2 new bikes and really running out space.

Hmm, 80.5 mph on a human powered bicycle is really hard to fathom. I would think the laws of physics would make that impossible.
You are wrong. It called paced cycling and basically you are getting help from wind resistance (the curse of all cyclists) by being behind a car with a board on the back.
Its VERY dangerous, and if you loose touch with the car in front you are off!
