    Hi Dan, i can only echo your veiws. We have the same cover for our van, and never tow anywhere without it. The amount of road and field dirt it stops hitting the van, makes it worth it's weight. Great blog again. Thanks.

    Perfect timing Dan! We just got our first caravan a few weeks ago and on driving home we noticed lots of people towing with these and began to wonder if it was a good idea. You have confirmed our thoughts on this so I think some research is needed now. Thanks for all the info...most helpful!

    Had our tow pro 2 years and been excellent. Buy the one up from it and it gives access to locker but it’s not been a problem for us at all - unless you leave leg winder in the front locker after put it on! Very good customer service from specialised covers 👍

    Hi Dan
    Superb video, we bought a second hand cover for our caravan, like you I was sick and tired of arriving on site with a dirty caravan. A new cover seemed a lot of money at the time. I searched the web and your channel for advice on the matter, you were about 4 months late with this video ha. The cover we bought is a tow sure designed for a Coachman, but fits our Elddis perfect as the sides are seperate from the front and both sides clip into the front with adjustable clips. This also gives us chance to remove the bottom clips both sides, and fold the cover up to allow access to the locker.
    Yet again some superb advice, as our cover hasn't been out in the wet yet I wasn't sure what to do with it but assumed I'd cross that bridge when it came, but watching your video I now have a solution 😀
    P.S I will be installing my AFD De-Wobbleiser solution this weekend!!!
    Steve

    Yup! Another useful video. We have wondered about the efficacy of one and last January, yes our first and only winter trip, Mrs satnav took us down a muddy lane. I did not enjoy washing off the mud in the freezing cold. Not sure I understood how the strap was attached.

    Think I need to look into a towing cover after this weekend! Fortunately the roads were dry on our way to the site but coming home today the front of the van was a bit of a mess and then had to spend the rest of the afternoon cleaning it!

      Hi Rob, feel free to give us a call! There are 4 Tow Pro's within the range and although they all protect the front of your van equally, they're all slightly different in terms of providing access points. Take a look at our website for a bit more info...

    Hi Dan, Just bought a similar cover in New Zealand where we live. From what I saw in the video there is no access for your front lights and reflectors. The one we bought has 2 clear pockets about 500mm from the top which hold a small single press battery operated LED lamp and also 2 reflector strips for the width. We often travel at night if going a long way as its a lot cooler and less traffic.Love your videos thanks. Cheers, Peter

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Peter, Thats really good to hear. If you look at our cover you will notice 2 small windows at the bottom of the cover. This allows the Caravans front marker lights to shine through. As this cover is custom made to fit our caravan exactly, these windows are positioned in the exact place they need to be. For other models they are placed accordingly.
      For the generic "Fits anything" style, they do have add on LED puck lights, that you click on and they fit in small pockets, like yours.
      I hope that helps.
      Thanks for your comment,
      Dan

    Hi guys thanks for the video much appreciated, I have a slightly strange request can you fit the cover on the back of the caravan. I ask this as my old caravan which is sited sprung a leak earlier this year. It appeared to come from the corner of the van at the back,I couldn’t see exactly where so sealed from top to bottom the whole height of the van. As an extra measure I wondered if it was possible to fit one of these front covers on the back to protect against the wind and rain.
    Cheers Paul

    Another place you can dry the towing cover is to attach it to the rear awning rails if you do not have a full awning up.

    Just a quick question... does dirt or grit or sand that's already on the windows scratch against the inside of the cover and in turn scratch the windows when it's in place? Considering getting a cover, just want to see what your thoughts are about that.

    Just a quick slightly related question, I noticed you don't use a storage cover to protect while its parked up. Is there any reason other than the solar panel? I'm about to get a caravan & noticed a fair few have covers. Thanks & love the channel.

  • @nightwolf1592
    @nightwolf1592 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, what is your view re all over covers when a caravan is in storage? Thanks for your on going advice videos.

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      HI, I don't tend to use an all over cover, simply as we use our van during the winter months, we also have a solar panel and for those two reasons it just wouldn't work for us.
      I would say that if you do store your 'van over winter, try a cover. Check it regularly, ensure its not loose and if you can nip inside the caravan to ensure its not getting damp.
      Hope that helps.
      Dan

    My version of the Tow Pro (2021) is different. It has no clips at the top, it has zips at each side and zips for the central panel as well so you can get to your locker and windows. There is a mysterious extra strap to do with accessing the window, with two plastic bulldog clips, I haven’t found out how to use yet.

    Great Tips Dan, Just wondering though if the caravan has running/driving lights on the front does the cover need to have a clear area to match up with the lights, as I'm not sure wheather it would be safe/legal to cover them.
    Cheers
    Jon

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Morning Jon, Yes a valid point. This is where a tailored cover really benefits. The cover has the cut outs in the correct places so the running lights shine through.
      On the universal covers they usually have LED pucks, that are battery powered and they are affixed to the outside etc.
      Hope that helps
      Dan

      Is it ilegal to cover front running lights as some caravans I have looked at dont have any lights on the front like Dans, or is it a case of "if there fitted they need to be working". Im new to all this caravaning only been out in ours twice now so sorry if it seems an odd question

    • @lensmanonline
      @lensmanonline 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure if it's ilegal to cover the lights, but i have read somewhere that they need to be visible, but as you said if they're fiited they must be in working order, maybe worth check it out with your dealer.
      Sorry i can't be any more help.
      Cheers

    Do the caravan front lights shine through it ok when you need to tow with the lights on?

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Morning Chris, Yes they shine through fine. If you notice, our cover has 2 transparent panels where the lights are on our van. This is another great reason for a tailored towing cover. The universal covers usually have some LED pucks on the front that are battery powered etc.
      Hope that helps.

    I have just purchased a second hand caravan that has an awning Chanel protector running most of the way from the bottom of the back end of the caravan all the way along to the bottom of the front. However I want to fit a towing cover ( which i bought after seeing this video) but obviously I cant run the cover up the Chanel because of the protector and after spending about a solid hour tugging and pulling it both ways, it will not budge. How do I remove it, or at least some of it to enable me to slide in the fittings for my towing cover into the runner.

    Sill question 😂 so I'm seasonal on a very exposed site in Wales, the last 2 years I've lost 2 of my front windows from storms 😢 I was thinking a cover might help during the winter months especially to save my windows 😅 would appreciate your thoughts on this idea 😊 many thanks

      Hmm, I’m not sure about this. The issue with leaving a towing over on is they allow debris to fall down from roof when left in for extended periods. Have a look at a roof cover. It literally covers the front / roof & rear. They’re available from Specialised Covers. 👍

    For the outlet to the waste water container instead of using the flexible pipe just use the second 90degree elbow and cut the remaining straight length of pipe into two different lengths, one short and one longer. You can then use the short length, elbow and the longer length of straight when you have sufficient height or when clearance isn’t so good you can use the long section, elbow and short length or just leave it at the elbow for discharging into the waste container.

      @@TheTrudgians Dan I saw your video after using one of these kits myself. What I did instead of using flexible pipe to go from the rigid straight pipe of the kit to the waste container was to just use the second elbow and cut the straight pipe to direct the water to the waste container. Watched a few more of your vids as well tonight and found them all useful.

      Morning, an excellent question. We usually ensure the front is clean when we set off. Then before we return i wipe the front down with a damp micro fibre cloth, just to remove any dirt or dust. So far this technique has worked well for us.

    Hi Dan, we ordered a ProTec cover for our van at the NEC on the Friday of the show, as they did not have a working card machine I was told that if I ordered they would call me the Monday after the show to take payment and we would have the cover in around 2 weeks. We did not get call the following week, so I called them on the Monday of the second week, I was told that they were still processing orders and would call me later in the week. On Monday of the 3rd week I called again and got the same response, which was repeated again the Monday of the 4th Week. At the beginning of the5th week I sent the company and e mail, they did respond to this but wanted my order details which I provided by return. A day or so later they asked me to call and make payment which I did. When doing so I added and paid for an optional carriage bag to my order. I was told to expect delivery in a week to 10 days, this didn't happen so I chased after 2 weeks and was promised deliver 3 days after my e mail. The cover arrived Wednesday this week but the optional bag was not included, I e mailed them to complain and instead of reading the whole e mail chain they sent a 1 liner " can we have your post code" I replied and pointed out that they had full detail, and to that e mail I have yet to have a reply.
    I intend to fit the cover for our trip on Monday and I just hope that the cover itself performs far better than ProTec customer service, will keep you posted.
